MONDAY, AUGUST 15, IS
DAY OF SEAFORTH VOTE
• A vote of the property owners of
• the town of Seaforth on a bylaw for
940,000 will be held on Monday,
August 15. This was arranged at a
special meeting of the town council
held Tuesday evening. Present were
Mayor Keating. Councillors Christie,
Close, Ross and Stewart. M. P. Mc-
Connell was present, representing
the town solicitors. Mayor Keating
presided.
Two bylaws were dealt with by
Council. The first bylaw, 502 of
1949, provided for the taking of the
vote of the property owners of the
town on the money bylaw on Aug-
ust 15th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p'.m.
daylight time. The polling booths
and election officials will be as
nearly as possible the same as for
the municipal election last year. A
list of those entitled to vote will be
compiled by the town clerk, who.,
will also act as returning officer. It
was stated that there were no ten-
ants in town who will be entitled to
vote. Tenants must be paying taxes
and have a lease for over 20 years
to vote on this money bylaw.
• The questions to be submitted on
the ballot for the property owners
will be "YES" and "NO". Yes will be
for the bylaw, and no will be against
the 'bylaw.
The second bylaw, 503 of 1949,
was the money bylaw, and was given
its first and second reading on Tues-
day evening. It was explained that
the third- reading will only be given
by council after the vote if the pro-
perty owners vote in favor of it.
This bylaw provides for the issue
of debentures for 940,000 to be re-
paid over a period of twenty years,
the money to be used for building a
community centre arena, etc. The
debentures will pay •37/).% interest.
It was explained that it would be
necessary for council to pass another
bylaw before the debentures are
actually issued setting forth the de-
