HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Seaforth News, 1949-06-09, Page 8'THE SEAFORTH NEWS THURSDAY, JUNE 9, 1949 KIPPEN WORKMAN-THOIVIPSON St. Paul's Anglican Church, Clin- ton, decorated with calla fillies • on the altar, pink snapdragons, pink emulations and white blossoms on the chancel formed a very pretty setting for the marriage on Saturday after- noon, May 21, of Ruth Evelyn Thompson and Thomas Orville Work- man, The bride is the elder daughter of Mrs. Thompson and the fate Ro- bert G. Thompson, Clinton, and the groom is the youngest son of Mrs. Workman and the late Thomas Workman, Kippen. Rev. R.M.P. Bulteel, rector of the church, officiated. Mrs. Theodore Fremlin presided at the organ and accompanied the soloist, Leslie Pear- son, who sang "P11 Walk Beside You" before the ceremony and "Be- cause" during the signing of the register. Given in marriage by her brother, R. E. Thompson, the bride was love- ly in a floor -length gown of bridal crepe with lace inserts at the yoke and a draped skirt. Her three-quar- ter length veil of illusion net was held in place with a petal headdress studded with seed pearls. She wore a double strand of pearls with match- ing earrings. She carried a cascade bouquet of red Templar roses. Mrs. L. G. Beadle, London, was matron of honour and she was very attractive in a floor -length gown of yellow crepe with matching head- dress and shoulder -length veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of white Killarney' roses. Lloyd Workman, Oshawa, was his brother's best man, and the ushers were Harry Thompson, Clinton, cou- sin of the bride, and William Dal- rymple, Seaforth. Following the ceremony a recep- tion was held in the Owen Memorial Hall and the wedding dinner was served in the Parish hall. The bride's table was centred with a three -tiered cake.'Each guest was supplied with a daintynosegay of pansies and bridal wreath, the thoughtful gesture of the Friendship Club. Later the bridal couple left on a wedding trip to New York and other points in the United States. For tra- velling the `bride donned a navy blue tailored suit with matching acces- sories and a small flowered hat. On their return Mr. and Mrs. Workman' will reside on the groom's farm near Kippen. Prior to her wedding the bride's mother, Mrs, R. G. Thompson, enter- tained at a delightful trousseau tea in London, where the bride had been employed for several years. Mrs. Thompson was assisted by ' Misses Alberta and Winnifred Thompson, Clinton, aunts of the bride -elect. ST. COLUMBAN Mr. and Mrs. Joe Moylan, Kitch- ener, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Moy- Ian. . Mr. and Mrs, Leo Murray in Blyth Mr. and Mrs. Jack McIver enter- tained Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kale, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morris on Sunday evening. Miss Lorraine Roland spent ISun- day in London. Miss Mary Catherine Roland of St. Joseph's Hospital, London, spent the weekend with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Holland spent Sunday with friends in Stratford. The monthly meeting of the• C.W. L. was held with the president, Mrs. Morris, in the chair. The meeting opened with prayer. The minutes as read were adopted. Ninety-one mem- bers were reported as having paid dues. Correspondence was read and discussed, also cards of thanks from sick members for boxes of treats re- ceived. Phe treasurer's report showed a balance of $111.01. A report of the Diocesan Convention held in. Stratford on May 14, 15 and 16 was very ably given by the delegates, Mrs. Morris and Alecia Coyne. A. vote of thanks was moved for the excellent report. A discussion follow- ed ollowed re ways of raising funds, and Miss Alecia Coyne offered the use of her home for a tea and social evening on June 21st. The meeting closed with prayer.
