The United Church held its re-
opening service on Sunday last with
Rev. E. A. Poulter, a former pastor,
as guest speaker. The choir rendered
several anthems alld Miss Mimi
Johnston of Hamilton and Mr. Don
Hughes of Exeter were guest solo-
: ists. A large congregation filled the
Church and the basement, which was
.serviced by a loud speaker supplied
:by the Hess Radio of Zurich. Many
former members were present from
Pilot Mound, Man., Toronto, Hamil-
ton, London, Chatham, Windsor,
Mitchell, Clinton; Seaforth, Hensall
and many other points. Rev. E. R.
Stanway of Brucefield and Rev. Mr.
Stotesbury of Bayfield assisted with
the evening service.
The United Church will hold a
baptismal service next Sunday morn-
ing June 12.
Mr. Fred McClymont was in
Thamesville on Friday last attend-
ing the funeral of Mrs. (Rev.) L. W.
Diehl

fifth anniversary last Thursday.

FERGUSON — Leonora Govenlock, beloved
wife of William L. Ferguson, in her 68th
year, passed away at her late home, Bayfield,
on June 6, 1949. Funeral services Tuesday,
June 7th, to Knox Presbyterian Church, Bay-

A pre -nuptial shower, honoring
Miss Rose Feeney was sponsored by
her sister, Mrs. Cecelia Steinbach at
the home of their mother, Mrs. Kath-
leen Feeney. A group of well-wishers
was present to extend congratula-
tions. Several games of progressive
euchre were played, the winners for
high scores being Mrs. Dan Costello
and Mrs. Arthur Forster. The bride-
to-be was presented with numerous
miscellaneous and useful gifts of
linen, glass and china, Mrs. Stein-
bach assisted her sister in opening
the gifts and the guest of honor
expressed her thanks to each indivi-
dual donor. A delicious lunch was
served shy Mrs. Steinbach, Miss Gen-
evive Feeney and Mrs. Dan Costello.
Previously the bride -elect had
been feted in Toronto at miscellan-
eous showers by Mrs, Fred Nazar -
eek, 134 Tyndall Ave., Mrs. R, J.
Cunningham, 40 Muir Ave, and Mrs.

Forty Hours Devotion services
were conducted at St. Patrick's
Church, Dublin, this week by Rev,
Justin O'Brien, C. P. Toronto. Sev-
eral 'priests from neighboring par-
ishes
arishes also assisted at the various
ceremonies which were attended by
capacity congregations.

William Ervin Morris, a (native
of Hibbert Township, will be ordain-
ed to the Roman Catholic Priesthood
at St. Peter's Cathedral, London, on
Saturday, June 11, by Most Rev,
John T. Kidd, Bishop of London. The
new priest, the fifth son of Mrs.
William P. Morris and the late Wm.
P. Morris, Hibbert, township, will
celebrate his first Solemn High Mass
at St. Columban Church on Sunday,
June 12.
William E. Morris received his
primary education at No. 4 Separate
School, Hibbert township, and later
graduated from Dublin Continuation
•School, entering St. Peter's Semin-
ary, London, for philosophy and
theology. He has five brothers: Rev.
Ellwyn A. Morris, Windsor; Thomas,
a student at Ontario Agricultural
College, Guelph; John, Galt, and
Louis and Joseph, Hibbert, also two
sisters, Mrs. Garnet Kearns, Merlin
am Miss Angela, Brantford.

Mr. Ed Ahrens had the misfortune
to be kicked by a cow and broke his
leg in three places. It is in a cast
and he is confined to his home.

The Helping Hand Mission Band
held their meeting in the classroom
of the church on June 4th. The
meeting opened with the call to
worship. Two verses of hymn 231
were sung followed by the scrip-
ture by Lois Ann Somerville and
prayer by Betty Axtmann, • The of-
fering was taken by Bob Betties
followed by the response. The roil
call was your favorite sport, there
were 19 members present. Verses 1,
2 and
�K of hymn 446 were sung. The
story i�/lod was taken by Mrs.
Dodds d Mrs. Davidson. Hymn
480 was sung followed by the Bene-
diction. A social half hour was en-
joyed by everyone.
Mr. Bill Montgomery and Mr.
Howard Armstrong went to. Chicago
where they attended a Shorthorn
show at Wilson, Ill,
Mr. Alex Kerr had a tonsil opera-
tion this week.

tune to lose a valuable Jersey cow.

The W.M.S. met on Wednesday
afternoon at the hone of Mrs, W.
Workman with a good attendance,
Mrs. Workman presided and opened
the meeting with hymn 188. The
worship period in form of a respon-
sive reading was given by Mrs.
Workman and Mrs, John Finlayson
No. 717 in the hymnary was then
read responsively. Mrs. Ivy Butt of
Seaforth then sang a solo accomp-
anied by her sister Mrs. MacGregor
at the piano. Hymn 286 was then
sung. The study was given by Mrs.
R. A. Peck assisted by Mrs, E. Mc-
Bride which was very interesting,
with picture illustrations. Hymn 521
was then sung after which Mrs,
Workman pronounced the benedic-
tion. Lunch was served by Circle 2.

Mrs. Elmer Koehler and sons of
Seaforth visited at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Koehler for several
days last week.
Master Ray Bennewies, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bennewies
had a rather misfortunate accident
last week when playing at school, lie
was struck on the face by one of
the swings. Medical attention was
necessary. Ile is doing nicely now.

the homes of Mr, and Mrs. Chas.
