Thomson of just north of here, has continued her other suc- cesses by, in addition to obtaining first in both entries in which she competed do Mitchell Musical Festi- val, 'namely first for solo 11 years and under ,and teamed with Gwen Wright, Mitchell, obtained first for girls duet 10 years and under, she received the Mitchell ' Educational Scholarship of $50 for best soloist. Her little six-year-old brother John, continued his first prize win- ning at Stratford where he competed , for the first time this spring by re- oeiving first prize for boys solo 8 years and under at Mitchell on Fri- day. Mr, E. C. iiarley is the able musical instructor in their school. - Miss Joan Britton, Dublin, well-' known granddaughter of Mrs. Han- ah Workman of town, continued her success by obtaining second prize in girls' solo 11 years and under and teamed with Margaret Darling of Dublin, got first prize for duet 11 years and under. The choir sang en anthem entitled "Just as I AM' under the .direction of the organist and leader, Mr. J. L. Nicol. STAFEA "Open House" was held at S.S. 4, Itibbert, when the teacher, Miss Lor- raine Cook, and pupils displayed the year's work, including, samples of writing, art, girls' handicrafts such as recipe books, cushion tops, aprons, and flower pots. They also had em- broidered „a quilt which was quilted by the women of the section. A .draw was made on it and it went to Mar- garet Walker of Cromarty. The boys' manual -training exhibits featured wall brackets, doorstops, and letter holders. ' The school, has an enrollment of only eight pupils. Later in the evening cards were enjoyed, prizes being won by Mar- ion Glanville, Harold Coleman, Mrs, Falconer, and Marjory .'Glanville. Lunch was served. Mrs, Oswald Walker su'ffered a severe stroke' at her home Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs, Art Treffery and Walter Wolfe, Detroit, with Mr. and Mrs. Walter O'Brien. Shobbrook Following a paralytic stroke with which she was stricken a few days previously, Mrs. Fred Shobbrook `passed peacefully away in Clinton Public Hospital on May 24th. Mrs. Shobbrook was in her 72nd y ear, a ' daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carter of Hullett, On June 9, 1910, she was united in m arriage • to her now bereft husband. They farmed in Hullett until 1936, since that time they have resided in Lond eshoro. The family consists of two sons and one daughter. Clifford and Leonard and Mrs. Ernest ;Knox '(Beth) all of Hullett also five grand- children, two children died in in- fancy. Also surviving are a brother and sister, Mr. Derwin Carter of Hullett and Mrs. Herb Oakes of God,I erich Township. One brother Stan- ley Carter predeceased her in 1948. Mrs. Shobbrook was a -faithful Christian woman., a lifelong member of the L ondesbero Methodist (now United) Church and active in the Church organizations.
