His many friends wish for him a speedy recovery. - The monthly meeting of the Evening Auxiliary takes place at the home of Miss Mary Goodwin on Mon- day night March 14th. Mrs. R. Drys- dale will assist the hostess. Mrs. H. Faber will present the devotional, Mrs. C. Passmore, the Missionary item, Mrs. Lorne Chapman, the study. BLAKE Mr. and Mrs. W. Oesch and family of Goshen Line N. visited recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Desch. Mrs. Fred Bancroft spent a few days in London recently. Mr. and Mrs. David Meyers and family have recently moved to their new home in Zurich. The ladies of the Blake and Go- shen W.M.S. met in the Blake Church on Friday, March: 4, for the World Day of Prayer. A good attend- ance from each society was present. Ml's. T. Dinsmore, the president, presided for the programme and the ladies of both societies took part. Rev. Reba Hern gave a very fine ad- dress. Mrs. M. Elliott presided at the organ. Farewell Gathering On Thursday evening the neigh- bours and members of the Goshen and Blake Churches met at the hone of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lamont, of Stanley Township and presented them with two nice gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Lamont replied very fittingly. Everyone wished thein a well-earned retirement from farming along with every good wish in their new home in Zu ieh, • VARNA Mrs. A. McConnell was called to Minneapolis last week owing to the illness of her sister Miss E. Easier. G. M. Beatty spent the weekend with friends in. London, Mrs. Ferguson, Sudbury, is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Elliott and family. Miss Bertha Deihl visited with Mrs. M. Reid, Saturday afternoon. The World Day of Prayer was held in St. John's Anglican Church on the First Sunday in Lent, March 4th. "A call to Prayer" was read by the presi- dent Mrs. J. W. Reid after which the leadership was taken by Miss E. Mossop and Miss R. Johnston. Pray- ers offered by those chosen were Mrs. H. Elliott, Mrs. H. Reid, Mrs. B, Me0linchey, Mrs. W. Webster, Mrs A. Coleman, Mrs. Wm. Reid, and Mrs, G. Reid. The address on the significance of the World Day of Prayer was given by Mrs, S. Keys. The offerings amounted to six dol- lars and forty-five cents. Miss Rena Johnston R.N., Toronto, is spending some time at the home of. her mother Mrs. W. Johnston and family. MT. and Mrs. W. Elwood and clang hter and. Mrs. M. Anderson, Goder- ioh, were guests of Mrs. M. Reid, Sunday. Mrs, Souter who has been with her daughter Mrs. Orrin Dowson, for some time was taken to Seaforth Hospital, Sunday. Her many friends hope for a speedy recovery. Mrs. Jamieson and sons, Clinton, spent Monday with the lady's Mother Mrs. Gertrude Reid. Mr. Wilmer Reid received word' Sunday of the sudden passing of his cousin, Mr. Lawrence Reid, Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. L, Reddon, Belgrave, were Sunday guests at the home of Mr, and Mrs. A. Murray. Arrangements wer made for our Easter 'thankoffeiin meeting. The kind invitation of Mr Brenton to meet at the manse fo this meeting was accepted. The mee ing will be held on regular meetin day April 14th to which all the ladie are invited, lunch will be served b the Auxiliary. Meeting was the taken over by group 2, Mrs. T. Young gave a very fine address on "What your money does", explaining what uses our special collection on the Day of Prayer is for, such as the help of providing' Bibles and Christian liter- ature in foreign countries, small things can accomplish great things. Mrs. Laura Saundercock took up the offering. The dedicating prayer was given all standing. A beautiful trio• was sung, "Upon My Knees" by Mrs, Allen Shaddick,�Mrs. Brenton and Mrs, T. Allen. Prayers of Interces- sion were offered by Mrs. Watson, Mrs. F. Shobbrook, Mrs. Beacom. The National Anthem was then sung and prayers for all nations were offered by Mrs. W. Govier and Mrs. Webster. The hymn of intercession, "Zion's King shall Reign" was sung. Mrs. R. Fairserviee led the closing dedication. The meeting throughout. was very inspiring, quite a number attending. Mr. Frank Fingland, Clinton, visit- ed wibh his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fingland, Sunday. Mrs. Chas. Watson had her two grandchildren Ann and Marie 'Sin- clair, Kippen, over the weekend and also Miss Fern, London. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Vodden, Clin- ton, visited with Mrs. Vodden's mother, Mrs. W. T. Brunsdon, Sun- day. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace and daugh- ter from near Bayfield, visited Mrs. Wallace's parents, Mr. and Mrs, Will Addison, Sunday. Mrs. Patterson, Alta., is visiting with her friend Mrs. Lillie Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Prest spent Sunday with the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Crawford. Mrs. W. T. Brunsdon celebrated her 83rd birthday on Feb. 28th. A umber of her friends called to wish her many more happy days, she also received telegram from her son Art Brunsdon in the West, also a number of cards and gifts. Mrs. Brunsdon is enjoying f air health and was able to enjoy every minute of the great day although living alone and in spite of Years she is able to do her own housework and enjoys having ill her friends and neighbors, especially the Grandmothers' Clierrio Club: Mr. Norman Alexander of the general store has bought the farm of Mr. Robt. Scott and will take up farming as soon as things can be ar- ranged; his store is now offered for sale, but not the seed house, he will still operate the seed cleaning busi- ness. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Forrest of London, who spent a month in Florida, has been visiting with her brother and family Mr. and Mrs. A. McQueen. Mrs. Arthur Caldwell was taken to Clinton hospital on Saturday; friends hope she will soon be able to return home. Mr. E. McKenzie and friend of Detroit visited his grandmother Mrs. D. Committee of Oddfellows and Rebekas • An entirely new Show -- bigger and better than ever They recently performed to packed houses on three consecutive nights in their home town of Norwich (The Norwich Band have won further laurels since their appearance here last spring) ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Haugh and Mr” and Mrs. McComb of London, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Haugh. Mr. Alex Paterson received word on Sunday evening of the death of his father in Montreal. Mr. Paterson left Monday morning to attend the funeral. On Tuesday morning about four o'clock fire broke out in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Turvey on the farm of Mr. Gordon Horner, a anile north of Brucefield. The occupants went to a neighbor to phone for help, when they returned fire had spread so rapidly it was impossible to get into the house to remove furniture, all was burnt. The fire started in the chimney.' Mr. Turvey was in Exeter at the time. • NORTH McKILLOP Mr: and Mrs. John Glanville and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hayden of Denfield. Mrs. Joseph Thornton is spending this week with her sisters at Water- loo. Miss Pearl Regele spent the week- end with her parents Mr, and Mrs. Ed Regele. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Glanville and Richard of Mitchell, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Regele. Mrs, Fred Glanville entertained a number of girls in honor of her daughter Bernice's birthday on Sat- urday afternoon. We are glad to report Mrs. Dun- can McNichol Sr., is much improved in health and we hope to see her out and around soon. Mr. and Mrs. William Roe spent an evening last week with Mr, and Mrs. Joseph Thornton, The W.A. and W.M.S. held their World Day of Prayer meeting at the hone of Ethel and Tennis Dennis with a good attendance being present Miss Donna Watson of Stratford spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. David Watson. Mr. Roy Wildfong of Kitchener spent the weekend with Mrs. Wild- fong. •CONSTANCE The W. M. S. and W. A. of Con- stance United Church observed the World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 4, also held their regular meeting. Mrs. L. Lawson took charge of the business for the W. A. It was decided to donate 925. to the coming Red Cross drive, Mrs. L. Stephenson and Mrs, L. Lawson to attend the Hospital Aid meeting to be held in Seaforth on March 10th. Mrs, P. Lindsay opened the W.M.S. meeting gg with prayer. Minutes were read and roll call answered; The open meeting to be held on the first week of June. Mrs. Ethel Stephenson and Mrs. C. Dexter to be the leaders for the cop- per contest. Mrs. C. Montgomery took charge for the programme. Opened by singing hymn "Breathe on me Breath of God". Prayer by Mrs. P. Lindsay, scripture lesson ta- ken from 15 chap, John, given by Mrs: E. Adams who also gave a talk of the lesson, Mrs. C. Dexter gave a reading on prayer. Short scripture lessons on prayer were read by a number of the members, comments were given on each by Mrs. 1Vlont-. gonlery. Hymn "Sweet Hour of prayer" was sung after which prayer was offered, Mrs. P. Lindsay gave;,a talk "Prayer is everyone's gift or privilege". Duet by Mrs. Ethel 'Ste- phenson and Mrs, L Stephenson. Reading by Mrs. J. iugill "All seek God in Prayer when trouble threat- ens". Hymn "Count your blessings". Offering received. Mrs. Montgomery closed with prayer.
