Carney Word was received during the week of the death of Mrs. Julia Carney,' Titusville, P.A., formerly of Dublin, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Myers, following a long illness. She was married in 1903 to James Carney and had lived all her married life in Titusville, coming back to Dublin on many oc- casions to visit, :having a bright cheerful disposition she will be mis- sed by all who knew her. The funeral was hold Feb. 18th at St. " Titus. Church, with Rev. Father James Hop- kins as celebrant of the Mass. Inter- ment was beside her husband who predeceased her one year ago,in St. Catharine's Cemetery. Surviving, one daughter, Sister M. Bonaventure, Corry, P.A. A. delegate of Sisters of Mercy from Corry, Franklin and Eric attended the funeral. Miss.. Dorothy Oescli has been en- gaged at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gingerich for a few days. Mr. Toddle Jeffrey is recovering after an ,operation at the Clinton Hospital. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. Mrs. Rudy Oesch spent a day with her daughter and son-in-law near Kippen. Mr. Robert Baker is confined to his room with a bad cold. We wish him a speedy recovery. . (Intended for last week) Mrs. Roy McBride spent a few days during the week with her bro- ther and sisters at Ashfield "Town- ship, Mr. and Mrs. Roy 'Lamont are busy making preparations for their new home in Zurich. The ladies of the W.M.S. met at the home of Mrs. Thomas Dinsmore on Thursday afternoon. Plans for, the Day of Prayer on Marcia 4th were held and an invitation for the Goshen ladies to conte to the Blake Church this year. Mr. Murray Baker is recovering from the cold. KIPPEN Mr. and Mrs. Edgar McBride spent Saturday in London. Mrs. Gordon Westlake, Sandra and Rosealee of dear Bayfield, spent a few days last week with the former's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Parsons and family visited on Sunday with Mr. and M1•s. J. Linden of near Denfield. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. A. Gackstetter were Mr. -and Mrs. Gordon Westlake and family of Bay- field and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones. Miss Alice Pfaff of Exeter spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ro- bert Elgie. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Keyes and Marlene of Varna, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jones. Mrs, Emerson Anderson and infant son, Gay, returned to their home here on Sunday from Clinton Hos- pital. . Mrs, J. Linden, who has spent the past week with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Archie Par- sons, returned to her home near Den- field, on Sunday. The World Day of Prayer will be observed in St. Andrew's United Church here on Friday afternoon. The ladies of Chiselhurst and Hills - green have been invited to attend. VARNA On Friday night March 4th A. C. MacKinnon, Toronto graduate of 0. A.C. will' give a talk on Soil Conser- vation and Crop 'Rotation illustrated with moving pictures in the township hall, Varna. This is going to be a worthwhile meeting. All interested in farming are requested to attend. Mrs. Wm. Ball and Master Nelson visited with Mr. and Mrs. H. ' Elliott and Mrs. Mossop last week. Mr. Jno. Argo and son, Toronto, spent the weekend with Mrs. A. Mc- Connell. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Reid visited friends in Brussels, Sunday. The dance sponsored by L.O.L. 1035 last Tuesday night was much, enjoyed by all who attended. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dowson ,and son in company with Mr. and Mrs. Spears. and son, were entertained one night' last week at the home of Mrs. Wm. Hart. The members of St. John's Angli- can Church spent a very pleasant evening, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elliott last Wednesday. The evening was spent in games and mu- sic after which refreshments were served. The World Day of Prayer will be held in St. John's Anglican Church on Friday, March 4, at 3 p.m. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Horner, Zurich, who spent the past two months with her daughter, Mrs. A. Ings, had the misfortune to fall, breaking her hip. She is at present in Clinton Hospital. We hope for a speedy recovery, Mrs. Horner is in her 89th year. WINTHROP Mr. and Mrs. James Hogg .spent -the weekend in Collingwood. Miss Isabel Betties went to Toron- to on Monday where she will take a post graduate course in St. Michael's Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Dale and Douglas, Hallett, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John tl'IeClure. R. K. Davidson spent the weekend in London. TUCKERSMITH The teacher and pupils of S.S. No. 5 held a very successful euchre and social evening on Friday, Feb. 25th. The prize winners were as follows: ladies' first, Mrs. Wilfred Coleman; consolation, Mrs. Walker Hart; men's first, Percy ,Grummett; consolation, Jim Doig; lone hands, Alfred Gruni- mett.
