have returned from a pleasant vaca-
tion in the Muskoka district.
Mr. and Mrs, Morley Sanders,
Freddie and Teddie are enjoying• a
holiday at Grand Bend.

spent the weekend at the home of
her mother Mrs. Letitia Sangster.

A pretty double -ring ceremony
was •performed at Carinel Presbyter-
ian Manse on SaturdaY, when Rev.
P. A, Ferguson united in marriage
Laura Letitia Sangster of London,
daughter of Mrs. Letitia Sangster
and the late James Sangster . of
Hensall, and Victor Stan, son of Mr,.
and Mrs. S. Stan, of London. The
bride wore a blue street length dress
with black accessories and corsage
of red roses. The bridesmaid, Miss
Marion Sangster, sister of the bride,
wore an autumn brown 'dress with
black accessories, and Miss Aurelio
Banthier of Detroit wore royal blue
with black accessories; both wore
corsages of Sweetheart roses. Mr.
John Stan and Mr, John Sangster,
brother of the bride, attended the
groom.
A reception followed at the
bride's home. Mrs. Sangster received
wearing a Victorian wine coloured
dress, while Mrs. Stan received
wearing black, both with pink rose
corsages. Later the bride and groom
left for a trip to. Detroit, the bride
travelling in a green suit with black
'accessories, •,They. will reside in Lon-

utes of the last meeting read and
adopted. It was decided to hold the
Fair at the School grounds on Fri-
day, September 24th and the public
speaking, spelling, recitation etc.,
in the Town hall on Friday evening,
October, 1, at 8 p.m. The following
judges were named providing they
will act: for grain etc., Geo. Thomp-
son, for vegetables etc., W. R. Don
gall, for flowers etc., Mrs. H. Dal-
rymple, poultry, etc., Leroy O'Brien,
Live Stock, the . Agricultural repre-
sentative. The contests in the hall
for the evening, Miss Ellis, Mrs.
P. Ferguson, Mrs. A. Shirray, and
M1•. M. •Sanders.
The following committees were
appointed. Sports -P. L. McNaugh-
ton and J. A. Paterson; printing, W.
Parke and W. R. Davidson; advertis-
ing, J. A. Paterson. The Secretary
was asked to invite the two public
School Inspectors to attend.
All schools are invited to attend
in the community and all fees to be
paid to the Secretary on ory before
September 24th and those' wishing
to enter their schools are invited to

Miss Roberta Kirkby spent the
weekend in Kitchener.
The W.M.S. of the Hensall United
Church entertained as, their guests
the ladies of Carmel Presbyterian
Church; on Thursday evening in the
school room of the Church, Mrs. W.
B. Cross, President, presided and
the meeting opened by singing
"Again As Evening Shadows Fall"
followed by the Lord's Prayer in
unison. Mrs. E. Geiger had charge of
the devotional, the scripture, Matt.
8: 1-15 followed by prayer. Misses
Betty Mickle and Bernice Jinks
rendered a beautiful duett entitled
"Sweeter as the years go by" ac-
companied by Miss Greta Laramie.
Miss Ann Brook of Exeter favoured
with two readings entitled "The
Master is calling To -Day" and "A
Last Opportunity". Miss Greta Lam-
mie fadoured with a piano solo and
hymn 'Break Thou the Bread of,
Life" was sung,. Mrs, E, Geigel` then
introduced the guest speaker for
the W.M.S. Rally, Mrs. Baldwin,
from the Bible Institute,' who gave.
a splendid address on the "Touch 'of
the Master's Hand" stressing that
we should try to help to cheer the
lonely, and use our time to the best
of our ability by visiting the sick
and that we need to take more time
by` meeting the Lord' in prayer. The
meeting closed by singing "The Day
Thou Gayest, Lord is Ended" and
the benediction. A social half hour
was enjoyed by all.
J. Jackson Walker
A well known Hensall resident, J.
Jackson Walker, died at his home
here Thursday night, following
four days illness. A member of the
Toronto Police force for 25 years,
he had also served as a sleeping car
conductor for the C.P.R. between
Montreal and Winnipeg. A life mem-
ber of the Masons, he was presented
three years ago with a gold medal
for 50 years service. Born in Wing -
ham, he lived in Goderich prior to
moving to Hensall nine years ago.
He was a member of Hensall Unite -
ed Church. Surviving is his wife, the
former Anna Carlyle. A private
funeral service was held from the
residence on Saturday, conducted
by Rev. R. A. Brooks. Interment in
Hensall Union Cemetery.
Rev. and Mrs. L. W. Diehl of
Thamesville called on their niece,
Miss Violet McClymontr and Miss
Mary McAsh, on Monday.
Miss Helen McNaughton and
friend of Toronto spent the weekend
at the home of the former's parents

Mr. and Mrs. James Smillie are
enoying a pleasant holiday in Toron-
to and points north.
Mrs. Josephine Bolton accompan-
ied Mr. and Mrs. T. Harry Hoffman
of Dashwood, to Pittsburg, Penn. on
Sunday, to attend the funeral of her
brother-in-law, Mr. •Hummed.
Mr. Wilson Allin returned home
from the Hospital and is improving.
The United Church Evening Aux-
iliary held its opening meeting of
the fall season in the schoolroom,
on Monday night, Sept. 13th with
the vice-pres., Mrs. J. Corbett in the
chair. After singing the theme song
and the hymn "0 Day of rest and
Gladness", the Lord's Prayer was re-
peated. Mrs. J. Flynn took eharge of
the worship service consisting of re-
sponsive scripture reading, Prov. 2,
and prayer. Minutes read. Collection
taken. Hymn "Fight the good Fight"
was sung. During the business ses-
sion the secretary reported the ar-
rival of Xmas cards which were dis-
tributed among the group. "Thank -
you" letters from Mrs. J. Consitt
and Miss Tate were read, referring
to hymn books presented in June.
Mrs. C. Passmore sent a "thank -you"
note due to her recent bereavement,
while Mrs. J. Corbett .expressed
thanks for the get -well card receiv-
ed during illness. Various plans were
made for the fall and winter work.
The pot -luck supper will be held in.
the schoolroom, Tuesday night, Oct.
12, at 6:30 o'clock, Mrs. D. Kyle will
present devotional period. Mrs. Hed-
den is program convenor. Moved by
Mrs. Flynn, seconded by Mrs. D.
Kyle, that Mrs. Jones act as 2nd
vice-pres., till the end of year, car-
ried. Mrs. Corbett, vice-pres. will
preside owing to Mrs. Shortt's re-
moval. The annual Auxiliary Bazaar
will take place in the schoolroom on
November 20th. Members. are asked
to present a collection of souvenirs
or trinkets at the October meeting.
Mrs. Corbett then gave an interest-
ing talk on the study book, chapter
7. The hymn "Stand up for Jesus"
concluded the meeting after which
the mizpah benediction was repeat-
ed. At the close, the social commit-
tee served a delicious lunch.
The Hensall Institute voices ap-
preciation to the Chamber of Com-
merce for erecting booths etc., to
Mr. Bert.Horton, and all others who
assisted in any way.
Mrs. Jas. Sangster donated lovely
pot holders as a prize to the one
guessing the number of buttons in a
jar. Tickets were sold and as a re-
sult over $4.00 was realized. The
lucky winner was Mrs. Harold Bon-
thron, who guessed the exact num-
ber.(100).

Sec.-Treas., of the Institute reports
the following contributions given to
Mr. Hy. Lawrence. Institute euchre,
May 19th, probeeds $16.60; home -
baking sale, July 17th, proceeds
328.00; booths operated at frolic,
Sept. 8, expenses paid, proceeds
amount to $181.93 therefore, the
total givings of $226.53 have been
received from the Institute to aid
the •Community Building Fund up
to date.

Tuckersmith Municipal Council
met in the Town hall, Seaforth, on
Saturday,. Sept. 4th, at 8 p.m.
Reeve Nicholson presided and all
members present with the exception
of J. W. Crich. A court of Revision
was held on the Geiger Drain and as
no appeals were entered, by-law No.
8, 1948, providing for repairs to the
said drain was given its final read-
ing and passed, signed and sealed.
John Watson and William Oldfield
appeared before Council in regard to
a drainage requirement affecting
their lots and were advised to call 'a
meeting of all interested parties with
a view to having the work laid out
by the Engineering Dept., of the On-
tario. Agricultural College.
The Clerk was instructed to apply
for interim subsidy on the road ex-
penditure and by-law No. 9, 1948,
providing for a further appropria-
tion of $11,749.00 for road expendi-
titre was passed. This by-law was
necessary to provide for emergency
expenditure on the Crich: and Bell
bridges and to be effective will re -
'quire to be approved by the Dept.
of Highways.

Vipond Drain, James Drain and Staffs Drain,

and Speelfications which may be obtained
from the Clerk. A marked cheque for ten.
per cent must accompany each tender. Ten-
ders to be considered at a meeting in Stella
Twp, Hall en Monday, Sept. 20th at nine
o'clock in the. evening D.S.T. Lowest or any
tender not necessarily accepted.
