The Helping Hand Mission Band
met in the classroom of the Church
on Saturday, Sept. 4th. Meeting
opened with the theme hymn and
the call to worship. Scripture was
read by Ruth Montgomery, follow-
ed by the Lord's Prayer repeated, in
unison. Offering was taken by Jac-
queline Davidson, followed by min-
utes of the last meeting. Business
was taken by Mrs. Dodds. Hymn 623
was sung followed by a story by
Ml's. Davidson. Meeting closed with
the benediction.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dungey and Mr.
and Mrs. John Bach spent last week-
end at Port Carling. They were
guests at Les Whyte's, Port Carling
Hotel.

al Hockey League 180 -game schedule
will commence Oct. 13 with Chicago
playing at Detroit..?'•is is the earli-
est season opening gcmie on record.
New York Rangers meet the Can-
adiens in Montreal playing the
following flight and by Saturday,
Oct. 16, all six teams will have play-
ed
The 1948-49 season closes March

Final play-offs
The Centralia R.C.A.F. Flyers
were downed by the Seaforth Bosh -
arts 5-0 last Friday evening under
the lights at Lions Park. This was the
first game of the best of five finals.
Kennedy, for the locals, struck out
sixteen and walked four 'Centralia
batters. Grayer, for Centralia R.C.
A.F., struck out thirteen and walked
three Boshart hatters.

The Centralia RCAF Flyers tools the second
game of the best -of -three series Tuesday,:
night when they defeated the Seaforth Bosh -
arts .under the lights of the Wingham Town
Park, The final score was Centralia 9, Sea -
forth 4. .
The game was a close affair until the
eighth frame when Iiennedy allowed 3 runs.
In the first innings 'Chip" Woods for the
locals chipped a bone in his ankle on an at-
tempted steal to second base. This necessi-
tated the bringing in of R. Mulford to fill
Wood's third base frame.
Eisler brought in thefirst run for 'the
locals when. the left -fielder for Wingham
dropped the - ball. Centralia's first run was
brought in by Foster who walked to first.
stole second, got to third when Carragher hit
a single, and was brought home when Mul-
ford dropped' the ball on a throw to third.
Grayer, hurling for Centralia, struck out
five and walked one local batter. Noseworthy,
relieving Grayer In the 7th frame, struck. out
six and walked none of the 13oshart batters.
Kennedy, for the locals, had eight strikeouts
td his credit and walked three of the Flyers.
White was the heavy -hitter for Centralia,
bringing in three runs.

Seaforth Red, Sox and the Seaforth
old sters scheduled for last Tuesday
was post-poned due to ram and was
played last night instead at the Rec-
reation grounds. The report on this
game wil be printed in next weeks,
paper.

Turgeon. The umpire behind the '
plate was not decided until after
this paper went to press due to the
fact that the President of the Lions'
Club, W. R. (Bert) Shaw, was un-
able to be present,
The Red Sox was Seaforth's first
hardball team in many, years and did
a grand job. When the season was
completed, it was found that ex-
expenses were higher than anticipat-
ed, so in order to close the season
with everything paid up this out-
standing and spectacular benefit
game was arranged.
