The Seaforth News, 1948-09-09, Page 2THE SEAFORTH NEWS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1948 ' ERE'S WHE ON AWCAKYEZZ/VG General Motors Dealers' "Foursquare Selling Policy assures you a Fair Deal when you buy a. new car Let's bring this subject right out in the open. Many conditions still exist which encourage the "gray marketing" of automobiles. You don't like this - and neither do we. There's no law against "under the counter" deals - demanding a bonus for early delivery. There's no law against loading cars with ac- cessories the customer doesn't want or need. There's no law against selling to buyers who make it their business to resell new cars at inflated prices. NO PADDING OF PRICES We guarantee our delivered prices to conform with the manu- facturer's recommendation and to contain nothing but standard charges which, of course, include Sales and Excise Taxes. You receive an itemized bill of sale. All prices are an "Open Book" - they are available to you and we sell at these listed figures. NO LOADING OF UNWANTED ACCESSORIES All cars" are offered with factory -installed accessories only and prices are figured to cover these, We pledge ourselves to add no "extras" except those each customer orders - and to avoid using "extras" to increase the delivered price. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to our loyal customers and friends for their patience in awaiting their turn for delivery of new General Motors cars. Although the popularity of General Motors cars is unprecedented, and the supply is Lagging far behind the demand, we are doing our utmost to be fair and equitable in their distribution. But we don't do it because it's not good business. All dealers buy cars at clearly established factory prices which with the exception of transportation, are the same, model for model, all over the country. All start on a fair and equal basis - and should therefore sell at these fair and reasonable delivered prices. So we're making public announcement of our code of fair dealing. Our foursquare selling policy, simply stated, is this: TRADE-INS DESIRED - BUT NOT COMPULSORY We will take your order for future delivery, without requiring a trade-in. However, we have many valued used -car customers who also depend upon us to supply them with automobiles. For this reason we would like to have your trade-in, and we'll give you a fair and reasonable allowance for it. NO COLLUSION While we cannot prevent our customers from reselling new cars, we will not knowingly be a party tosuch trans- actions. Our only interest is to deliver new cars to bona fide customers. We present this platform because we believe it's good business to keep our customers informed. It's a platform that gives you a fair deal when you buy a new car - exactly the same kind of a deal and treatment you got before the war. If you wish additional information, it will gladly be supplied by any dealer whose name is signed to this announcement. Dear Sir: When I left Seaforth back in 1948 there were a few people (1 suppose one would call them public spirited) who were trying to impress the town and nearby farm folks with talk of a Community Centre building. I was among the negative ele- ment; I couldn't see how it would benefit the town or country people._. At that time 1 was not alone in my views. There were many local people who thought as I did that our money could do a much better job TIMOTHY SEED We are now buying and processing new crop Timothy Seed. We will supply bags • for harvesting and have your seed picked up at your farm. For bags, prices and information call H. Connell 44 M Seaforth, or our plant at Crediton, telephone 3 W. Zwicker Seed Co. Crediton, Limited Ont. providing a home for aged moths rather than a Community Recreation Centre for our growing children. , Since leaving Seaforth in 1948 I have seen many places. I have been in small towns and large cities and 1 have seen this community centre business thrashed out time and time again. One town I remember in par- ticular (it stands out in my mind be- cause it was in this town that I saw the light and now I am a community centre man myself). Their building was a large one-story affair situated on the edge of the town. Contained inside the four walls were eight fairly large rooms. These rooms were rented at a reason, bie rate to different town and farm organizations. One room was used as headquarters for the agricultural society, another Inc the boy scouts. The women's institute held meetings in their own private room. Other rooms were used by other farm and town organizations. One served as headquarters and equipment room for the local athletic association. The main part of the building served wonderfully as a show place for fall exhibits and was the setting of many action packed hockey games during the winter. 1 WANTED DEAD -STOCK HIGHEST CASH PRICES HORSES $4.50 each. I can remember not so long ago when I stood up in Seaforth and made it known that I was against that wonderful plan .. , the building of a community centre. I had the pleasure last week of visiting Seaforth's new community centre. After seeing it I am convinced that a better spot than the fair grounds could not be had. I stood back and gazed with pride (also feeling a little hurt because of any past obstin- acy) at the bronze plaque above the entrance It read: "Through these portals pass those whose fath- ers had vision-A.D. 1950" . .
