Charlie Riley are spending a few days in Kitchener with their son Mr. Bernard Riley. Rev. J. C. Britton of Thamesville visited with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Britton on Friday. Misses Kay and Arva Britton who had been visiting here for the past week re- turned home to Thamesville on Fri- day. Mr. Leo Stephenson of Trenton spent the weekend at his hone here. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riley were in London on Monday. Miss Grace Riley and Master Douglas Riley are spending a few days in Clinton with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Riley. Mrs. Ethel Stephenson visited with Mrs. Peter Gardiner in London on Monday. Several members of Constance W.M.S. spent Tuesday evening as guests of the Mae Lane Society of Northside United Church. A social and crokinole party will be held Thursday evening in the basement of the church. All wel- come. The W.M.S. and W.A. met in the schoolroom of the church on Thursday, -March 13th. The meeting opened with prayer by Mrs. Lind- say.. Hymn "When I- Survey the wondrous Cross" was sung. Minutes were read and adopted. A copper contest for May and June, leaders to be Mrs. A: Dexter and Mrs. W..Jew- itt. A thank -you card was read from the Dunlop famliy. Reading "Passion Time" was read by Mrs. Adams. The scripture "An Easter Message" tak- en by Mrs. Brown. A duet by Mrs. L. Stephenson and Mrs. Ethel Ste-. phenson, "Is Jesus your next door. neighbour" An instrumental was given by Mrs. Brenton after which hymn "Christ the Lord is risen to day", was sung. An invitation was read from the W.M.S. and Mae Lane Auxiliary of Seaforth United Church for this society to attend their East- er meeting on Tuesday evening March 30th. Mr. Thos. Reid of London, called Sunday on his brother Nelson and funnily Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heard and family of Stratford were holiday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Elliott. Mr. Harold Elliott spent the week- end in Windsor. ' Mr. Floyd McAsh spent the week end at the parental hone. Mrs. G. H. Beatty and son George spent the holidays with friends in Oshawa. Simpson and sons of Detroit visited Mr. C. D, Simpson on Sunday. Mr. D. Scale of Sudbury spent the week end at his Koine here, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Broadloot of Sea - forth visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. Dalrymple on Sunday. Miss Marion Paterson. and Jas, Paterson, London, spent the week end at their home here. Mr. Cameron Henry of London fs spending Baster holidays at his home. Miss Margaret Aikenhead of London spent a few days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Aikenhead: HULLETT Mr. and 1VIrs. Charles Riley and grandson Ronnie spent a few days last week in Kitchener with Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Riley. Mr. Fred Riley returned hone with them. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riley were in London Monday on business. Master Douglas Riley is holiday- ing with bis uncle and aunt in Clin- ton, - KIPPEN The Friendship Circle met in the Sunday School room of St. Andrew's United Church on Tuesday evening last. A pot -luck supper was held at six -thirty p.m. The table was laden 'with abundance of tasty things. Fol- lowing the . supper Mrs. Winston Workman took the chair and open- ed the meeting with a hymn. Miss McClinchey read the scripture and Mr. Hinton led in prayer. A short musical program followed with a duet by Marie Sinclair and Nelson McClinchey. Mrs. Ross Broadfoot favoured with a piano solo. Tom Kyle, Bob Caldwell, Grant Mac- Gregor sang cow -boy songs accom- panied by Jack Caldwell. Mr. E. Hayes then favoured with a solo. Twelve tables of progressive crok- mole was then enjoyed. The ladies high prize went to Audrey Faber, while the consolation went to Mrs. Emerson Kyle. Gents high, Mr. R. M. Peck; gents consolation,. Bob Cald- well. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by singing the National Anthem, The next meeting will be held on Monday evening next March 29th at 8:30 p.m. The West gronp will have charge of the pro- gram and the East side will supply the lunch. Many from here were in Goderich on Sunday viewing the damage caused by the ice break-up. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie McBride, Wayne and Sharon spent the week- end in Wingham with Mr. and Mrs. S. Beattie and' witnessed the Wing - ham flood. Mr. Stanley Love held a very suc- cessful auction sale on Thursday last. The W. A. of St. Andrew's United Church here were present with their hot-dog booth. Many local farmers attended the Co-operative banquet held in Hensall Town hall on Thursday evening last The Kippen Gun Club are holding a trap shoot on Friday, March 26 at 1 p.m,. Prizes will be awarded. Many local roads are at present impassable due to wash -outs and mud. HENSALL Following is a letter received by. Mr. Fred G. Farquhar, Hensall Dear Mr. Bonthron—Anyone who. has had even remote association with Hensall will be delighted at the enterprise of a number of its pre- sent citizens who visualize a perm- anent recreational centre. A struc- ture of the type contemplated will be a continuing inspiration to those for whose -use it is extended and, a monument to those whose interest in the community will make a reality out of a dream. Lane, Clinton The Arnold Circle Evening Auxil- iary held their Easter thankoffering meeting at the home of Mrs. Harold Bonthron on Monday evening with Mrs,- Stewart Bell, co -hostess. The meeting opened with "The call to Worship" by the president, Mrs. Glenn Bell, atter which the scrip- ture, Matt. 28: 1.8 was read by Mrs. Melvin Moir. Joanne Johnston, Glad- ys and Margaret Moir and Lola Vol - land sang a chorus. Meditation on the 2nd chapter of St. John was led by),Irs. Stewart'Beli, Hymn "Who is He in yonder stall?" was sung by Mrs, H. C. Bell with all joining in the chorus. Mrs. P. A. Ferguson in- troduced the speaker Mrs. l(Rev.) D. Lane of Clinton, who brought an inspiring address based on the text "This is the Victory that overcomet, the world even our Faith". A vet of thanks was extended to th speaker by Mrs. Frank Wright. Th roll call was answered by a Bib1 Verse. Arrangements were made t hold a "Mother and Daughter" ba quet on May 17 when Mrs. ,•(Rev. W. A. Young of Fergus will be' i vited to be guest speaker. The nice ing closed by singing 'Hosanna lou Hosanna" and the Lord's Praye Refreshments were served at' t close. Miss Alice Dougall of. Toron spent Easter with: her mother Mr Wnn. The monthly meeting of the El ening Auxiliary (United Church takes place at,the home of Mi Mary Goodwin, on Tuesday nigh April 13th. Miss Margaret Glen will assist the hostess. The devotion al exercises will be taken by Mrs. Hyde Mrs. Hedden will contribut a missionary item. The study will b given by Miss Michie. Mrs. Hedden, Edna Saulndercoc Miss Ellis and Mrs. Mary Buchanan form the social connmittee. A large attendance is requested In connection with the annual fal bazaar, members are asked to brio to this meeting an assortment o wash cloths, dusters, dish cloths and pot holders, etc. The regular. monthly meeting o the Hensall Institute will be held i the Council chamber on Wed., even ing, April 14th, Mrs. Ferguson an Mrs. A. D. McEwan will act as host esses. Roll call, a handy dish t leave for the men's supper. The de monstration will feature a showin of aprons contributed by the mem bens. Miss H. McKercher will be th guest speaker. The motto will b given by Mrs. A. Shirray. Plan to attend this interesting meeting. Please bring eups and sau cers. Laverinc Morgan, Mr. Amos Corby and little daug hter of Seaforth, were Sunda guests at the hone of Mr. and Mrs Ings. Mr. Nelson Reid and Charlie Nel son, Clinton, Mrs. Wilber and daug hter Ruth, motored to Orillia, Satur day morning to attend the funeral of uncle Stewart Nelson, who passed away in his 92nd year, Mrs. Rathwell has returned to her home after spending sometime at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Mur- ray, Clinton. M'r. Jamieson of Clinton, spent the weekend with his wife and little sons at the home of the latter, Mrs. Reid. and NIr'. Mrs. A. Horner are pre- paring to move to their new home in Exeter A euchre and dance was held Fri- day night in the hall, sponsored by the L.O.L. No. 1035. Owing to bad road conditions the crowd was not as large as expected. Two Dutch immigrants arrived here on Thursday to work as helpers on farms in the Varna area. A. J. de Goot, Lichtaard, Friesland, the Netherlands, his wife and seven children have gone•to the farm of John Ostrom. M. Westdorp of the Netherlands, a single roan, has gone to the farm of Harvey Hayter of Varna, William Alcock expected a family but so far they haven't arrived. The agricultural office at Clinton reports that in the last month faun help, which for the past few years has been almost impossible to get, has become quite plentiful. At the time arrangements were made .to send the Dutch immigrants to Can- ada this situation was not foreseer. The United Church intend to build a basement under the Church this summer. A number from hefe attended the special Easter service at Goshen on Sunday evening last. Mr. and Mrs. De Grout of Holl- aaul arrived here last week and are living on the Babylon Line. A number of Orangemen attended the funeral of the late Mr. Ed Mole of Seaforth.
