Reports were read by the treasurers of the vari- ous organizations and shovled a very successful year.' The church treasur- et's report showed that all obliga- tions had been met, that the books closed with a substantial balance. Four members were added in -the Board of Managers,. being Duncan Cooper, Arthur Finilayson, Orville Workman and R. M. Peck. A social hour followed the busi- mess and a lovely lunch was served by the ladies. • Friendship Circle Hold First Meeting For 1948 The ',Friendship Circle met on Monday night in the Sunday School room. Thirty members weathered the storm to be present for the first meeting of the New Year, Mrs. Allan Johnson presided and opened the meeting. by singing hymn 409, and Mrs. Johnson read ,the scripture, Rev. Hinton led in prayer. The min- utes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Harold Jones. During the business it was decided that the election of officers be postponed until the next meeting, Feb. 9th; and that Mrs. Workman's group be re- sponsible for the program, and hymn Ogg was sung. Mr. Hinton then conducted a demonstra- tion of bringing the long deceased authors to life, which proved very humorous. Mrs. Gackstetter and Mr. Hinton, then conducted con- tests. dainty lunch was then served. Mr. and Mrs. William McLachlan entertained a number of friends to e social evening last Friday night. day, Jan. '21. The meeting was open- ed by Mr. William Britton, in the absence of Rev Mr. Brenton,owing to the stormy afternoon. We sang the hymn; "What a Friend we have iii Jesus", after which Mr. Britton. offered prayer. M.S.Mrs. Dave Millson for the Mis- sion Band; Miss Norma Dexter for the Sunday School. Mr. William Jewitt gave splendid report for the ehnrch. The meeting was closed with pray- er and lunch was served. , VARNA Miss Mary McClymont of Toronto spent the weekend at her home here. The many friends of Mr. Orrin Dawson are glad to hear of his im- nrovement. BRUCEFIELD Brucefield I.O.O.F. second degree team conferred the second degree on a class of 9 candidates in Brucefield Lodge room, on Thursday evening last, more than 60 attended. Sea - forth, Clinton, and Exeter Lodges were all„ represented, each having candidates for the degree, the D.D: G.M. Clark Fisher of Exeter spoke breifly at the close of the meeting. Bro. McPherson of Clinton and Bro. McClinchey of Seaforth, also spoke. The N. Grand, Bro. Robert Dal- rymple gave an invitation to any lodge having a candidate for 2nd degree to be here on Feb. 5 when Brucefield will again confer the 2nd degree.
