Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller of
Hamilton spent New Years with his
parents Mr. and Mrs, Mervin Miller.
Mrs, Mervin Hodgert received the
sad news 'of the sudden death of her
father Mr. Warren Shilbe of Zurich,
in his 52nd year. The sympathy of
the community is extended to Mrs,
Hodgert. Quite a number of rela-
tives attended the funeral on Tues-
day afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs: Clarence Green and
Audrey attended the funeral of Mrs.
Green's uncle, David Cook, in Clin-
ton on Sunday afternoon.
Farm Forum was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Mogk. The
next meeting to be held at the home
of Mr. and Mr's. Dalton Hinz.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Diegel spent
Sunday with Mr. andia Mrs. Don
Markle at Woodstock attending the
christening of their grandson Brad-
ley Donavan Markle.
Mr. Ed. Ahrens returned home
from the hospital on New Year's Day
Mr. Roy Beuermaan spent a week's
holiday with his uncle and aunt, Mr.
and Mrs. Rhine Kahle at Mitchell.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. Diegel re-
turned home after spending the past
month with relatives in Detroit.
Mr. Mannual Beuer'mann has been
advised that he was the holder of
the lucky ticket for the first prize of
a 'electric mixntaster at the Essex
Rotary Frolic.
Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hinz and
family spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Don Barber at Guelph.
The annual school meeting was
held on Wednesday afternoon with
14 present. Mr. Aug, Scherbarth
was elected by acclamation for trus-
tee along with Mr. Edwin Rock and
Harry Mugge. Mr. Dalton Hinz has
the job of caretaking.
Miss Ruth Moore of Mitchell, a
normallte, is at our school for this
week gaining experience hi teaching
under the guidance of our teacher
Miss Alehta McMillan.
On Friday evening neighbors of
Mr. and Mrs. Adam Kistner gather-
ed at their home prior to their leav-
ing to live with their daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs, Reuben
Rapien in McKillop. Rev. W. Schultz
gave a short address and they were
presented with a woollen blanket.
They have been residents here for 8

year's, also of the school for a record
number of years,

Peters Lutheran Church. for the

On Wednesday evening the family
and brothers and sister of Mrs, Lou-
isa Hinz gathered at her home and
surprised her on her 73rd birthday
when a supper was enjoyed and she
was presented with a radio.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Crawford and
Alvin of Brussels were Sunday visit-
ors at the home of Ethel and Teenie
Dennis.
Mrs. Joseph Thornton who spent
the past week in Waterloo with her
parents, has returned home..

cepted a position in Stratford,
Miss Kathleen Smith of Atwood
spent the weekend with her parents

`,Varren- August. Schilbe Passes..
A shadow' of gloom was east over
this community on Sat. Jan. 3; when
it was learned of the very. suddan
Passing of Warren August Schilbe.
Mr. and Mrs. Schilbe had just comp-
leted the evening chores when .ire
was stricken: with a heart attack and
passed away immediately at the
barn. Mr. Schilbe was born on the
14th concession of. Hay twp. west of
Zurich, fifty-one years ago and at-
tended public school on that Line
High school in Zurich, he then at-
tended collegiate in Clinton, upon
graduation from there he was em-
ployed in a bank in Detroit. On June.
22nd, 19.21, he was united in Mar-
riage with Jennie Mine McClinchey
at the Lutheran' Church' in Zurich,
In 1923 he -bought the farm on the
2nd concession of Tuckersm.ith near
here where he has carried on a very
successful farming .career, He was
a faithful Member of St. Andrew's,
United Church 'here, He leaves to
Mourn his passing his' sorrowing wife
and four. daug'hter•s, Grace, Mrs.
Mervin Hodgert of Bor'nhohni; Kath-
leen. Mrs. Gordon Hodgert of Exe-
ter, Jean;- Mrs. Wilmer Ferguson,
Cromarty, Olive, Mrs. Norman Fer-
' guson, Byron, and his aged parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Schilbe, Zur-
ich. There are five sisters, Mr's,
(Annie) Finkbeiner, Zurich; Mrs.
(Alice) Deters, Cromarty; Mrs.
(Gertie) Sitter, Thedford; Mrs.
(Greta) Cruikeral, Akron, Ohio;
Mrs. (Irene) McClinchey of Varna;
a. brother, Henry Schilbe of Zurich;
four grandchildren also survive.
A short private funeral service
was held from his late residence on
Tues. Jan. 6. followed by a public
service from St, Andrew's United
Church here conducted by Rev. A.
Hinton, A duet `Beyond the Sunset"
was sung by two neices, Irene Har-
burn
ar
burn and Dorothy Simpson.
The pallbearers were Messrs Bob.
EIg'ie, Carl McClinchey, Roy Consitt;
Jinn McNaughton, Morley Cooper,
Bill Dietz, Tom Kay, Donald Day -
man. The flower bearers were nep-
hews of the deceased. Interment was
made in Exeter cemetery.
Relatives attended the funeral
from Akron, Ohio, London, Thed-
ford, McKillop, Byron, Zurich, Exe-
ter, Cromarty, Varna.
Miss Isabella Alexander returned
to Toronto after spending the holi-
day with her parents Mr. and Mrs.
W. Alexander'.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Beattie and fam-
ily of Wingham spent New Years
with -lir. and Mrs. Robt. McBride.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Daman and
little son of Kitchener spent a few
days with the former's parents Mr.
and Mrs. Harvey Damm.
Mrs. Alice Cook of London is
:pending a few days with her mother

Mrs. Arnold Gackstetter returned
to her home here on New Year's

Mrs. F. Wood. Mrs. Wm. Gray were

Wood on Christmas day.
The Sunday ,School of the United
Churchheld their annual Christmas
tree and concert' on Tuesday, Dec.
23rd in the Church school room. The
children of the S. S. gave several
numbers such as singing, readings,
monologues, dialogues. Mrs. R. Fair -
service, a reading of her "own com-
posing. Rev. S. Brenton acted as
chairman. When old Santa appeared
was the exciting, time for the young-
sters and the older's likewise. A good
time was spent together.
McKILLOP
Farrel Forma #4 square,.McKillop,
was held Tuesday evening, Jan. 6th
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. .Ken
Stewart with an aitendanee of 25,
Gordon Dapple was chairman for the
discussion period, after which eu-
chre was played. Prizes going to
ladies first, Mr's. Peter Maloney,
gents, Bob Campbell, ladies consola-
tion. Mrs. Russell Dorrance, gentle-
men, Russell Dorrance. A social half
hour was spent during which lunch
was served. The next meeting will
be held Tuesday, Jan. 13th at the
hone of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Campbell.
HULLETT
The Farm Forum group of S.S.
No. 1, Hullett, net for their lst
meeting in the New Year, Monday
evening, January 5th, at the home
of. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pepper with
17 members present. Three groups
were formed for the discussion on
marketing by Co-op. after which a
few games of euchre and five -hund-
red were much enjoyed by all. A de-
licious lunch was served by the.
Year's Day of Joseph James Richard-
son who died very suddenly at his
home here late Monday evening. Mr.
Richardson who was the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Richardson,.
Bayfteld'Line, Stanley Twp„ was born
in Bluevale July 21, 1882. The family
moved to Stanley Twp, when he was
a child,where he lived on the home-
stead until September, 1946. when he
moved to Bayfield. He was an elder in
Knox Presbyterian Church, Bayfield,
and president of the Bayfield Cemet-
ery Board,
Surviving are his wife Fanny Mac-
Kenzie Richardson, and three sisters,)
Mrs. Martha. Peck of Seaforth, Mrs.
Clara Miles, Toronto; and Mrs, Laura
Duncan, Sarnia,
The pallbearers were, Archie Arm-
strong, Hugh Gilmour, Arthur Peck,
Norman Greer, Alfred Westlake, Wil-
mer 'Reid and William Claris. Rev.
D. J- Lane officiated and interment
was in Bayfield Cemetery,

Election Day
Monday was Election Day, an elec-
tion being held for the first time in
several years for both village trustees
and for the Township of Stanley, John
R. Cameron, DRO for Bayfield, and
Fred Weston, DRO for Stanley Twp•,
report a record vote.'Ther'e were six
running for Village .Trustees, three
being elected as follows: Fred Wes-
ton 94, Merton Merner 89, John Sturg-
eon, Sr: 87, Leslie Elliott 64, Maynard
Corrie 55, and . Melvin Davison 46.
The two young men leading the poll
are veterans 06 'World Warr 2, and this
will be then' first time to hold public
office. John Sturgeon was a member
of the Trustee Board for 1947.
