Mrs. Ellen McGinnis, witlotY'' of Dr.
John McGinnis, formerly of Seaforth
and Wallaceburg, and daughter of the
late Daniel O'Mahony, J.P., and Eliza-
beth Elliott, -pioneer ` residents of
Townsend'Township, died suddenly in
Detroit onFriday; December 18, in her
81st year. Deceasedhad resided in
Detroit for inane years.
The funeral' was held from the
_ home of her .son, Dr. -D. H, McGhnnee,
to the church , of the Precious Blood`
in Detroit, where requiem high mase
was sung. and the final, rdtes:.observed.
The remains were interred' in the
family plot at,.Wallaceburg.
Dr. John McGinnis predeceased hiS
wife nearly thirty years ago, being a
victim rot the influenza epidemic. De-
ceased .lOareP .to' mourn her loss, one
son, Dr. D. II. McGinnis of Detroit,
and four •sieters and three -brothers,

FROM SCOTLAND
Mrs. George Eaton of Seaforth
has received the following letter:
Kirkhouse Cottage, Strathblane,
Glasgow, Scotland.' 5th Dee., 1947.
Dear Mrs. Eaton, -No doubt you
will wonderwho- is writing to you,
Well, I am the mother of the little
boy who, received your nice shirt
and I enclose your wee note " which
was in the pocket of shirt. It seems
so funny that the war "should be
ended for some time when we re-
ceived your message, but I know you
will understand when I tell you any
husband is still in the army and we
are waiting every day for his de-
mob as he is now in his eighth year
with the forces. I must thank you
very much for your kindness and
can assure you it was verymuch ap-
preciated. I am enclosing a photo of
my two live, the eldest called
Tarn and the younger Campbell.
Tain is thirteen and Campbell elev-
en in January. I also have three
daughters, the eldest, Mary, 19, is
a dairymaid, the next, Ruth, 15, a
housemaid on the same farm, and
the youngest, Helen, is two, so I
have done my bit. Tain would like
to write to you if you would not.

not be annoyed by me writing to
you but thought perhaps you would

MRS. ANNIE BROWN BREAKS
HIP AT OWEN SOUND
The maty friends of Mrs. Annie
Brown will be sorry to learn that she
fell and broke her hip December 23
while visiting at the - home of her
granddaughter Mrs. Larry Brown, in
Owen Sound.
She is in the Owen Sound General
& Marine Hospital, where het' condi-
tion is reported as fair. '
MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION
The Seaforth and District Minis-
terial Association will meet on Mon-
day, January 12th at 2 P.m. at the
Salvation Army Quarters. The paper
will be presented by the Rev. J. R.
Peters, B.A. Members are asked to
bring a current theological book for
exchange.

recently graduated from the Clerk
Administration Refresher Cqurse at.
Trenton, Ont., is Cpl. Francis Ank-
orn Golding of Seaforth, Ont. The,
course, which is six months in
length, includes' shorthand, typing,

Golding, who enlisted in the RCAF
in June, T941, is the son of Mr. W.

ceived word that she has obtained
her degree of Registered Nurse.
Miss Westcott trained at 'the Ham-
ilton -General Hospital.
Miss Lois Harrison, daughter of Mr.

and Miss Lois Jamieson; daughter 'of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jamieson, Lou-

BAPTISMAL FONT
PRESENTED TO CHURCH
A baptismal font, the gift of Mr,
Harry Stewart, has been presented
to First Presbyterian Church and
will be dedicated on Sunday morn-
ing, January 18th. The font which, is
beautifully designed was fashioned
by the Globe Furniture Company of.
Waterloo. It will harmonize with the
new church furnishings which were
installed in June of last year. With
this new addition, the interior of
First Church is now one of the most
complete and beautiful in Western
Ontario.

township, died at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. E. J. Fitzpatrick,
Centre St., Seaforth, on Friday
morning, in his 84th year. Ile was
ill for about three days.
He was born at Belmore and was

HURON COUNTY ASSESSOR
The recommendation of the equal-
ization committee of Huron County
Council that Alex Alexander of
Grey township be appointed Huron
County assessor, will he submitted
to County Council at the 'January
session, which opens on Tuesday,
Jan, 20.
Twenty-two applications for the
position : were considered at a meet-
ing..,of the committee held last Fri-
day. Of these, five were chosen for
personal interviews after a process
of elimination, and Mr. Alexander
was. the final choice.
Mr. Alexander was a member of
the County Council for seven years
when he represented Grey township
as deputy -reeve and reeve, and was
warden of the county in 1945.'

The death of Mrs. Thomas Grieve
occurred in Seaforth on Thursday,
Jan. 1, after an illness of about one

Reid of Walton, following .five days' illness. Prior to her marriage she

born Aug. 27, 1864. Mrs. Reid was a
lifelong resident of McKillop. She,

Church, Walton, Surviving are a -son
and 'three daughters: Nelson, on the
homestead; (Edna) Mrs. Wes. Hack -
well; (Ethel) Mrs. Elmer Hackwell,
and : ; (Marjory) Mrs. Lawrence

McKinley and Meg. Robt, McKinley,
