111,1r. 'Willard Buchanan was in God-
erich Friday and Saturday attending
court as witness in the Neeb-Iingram
damage shit.
On Friday and Saturday last the
suitof Mrs. Herbert Neeb of Zurich;
and George Ingram of the 'London
road, just south of Henson, was tried
in Goderich. It was a jury case and
they brought in a verdict for Mrs,
lNee'b. The judge gave damages of
$2Z1A0, the amount it cost to fix up
the Neeb ear and the cost of the court
which will be heavy. Mr. Ingram was
going home one evening in the fall
just at dusk from drawingflax to
Hen•sall. He had no light on the back
of his wagon; he was run into by Wm,
Neeb, who was driving his sister-in-
law's car, killing one of Mr. Ingram's.
horses and smashing up, the wagon,
also badly damaging , the Neeb car.
'Besides his own loss, Mr. Ingram was
fined for being on the road without
a light, with the amount of damages
and the cost of the court will make a
heavy bill for Mr. Ingram to settle.
St. Paul's Anglican Church are put
ting on a concert in the town hall on
'Monday evening, December 21st. The
play is entitled "Love Gift," or Why
.the Chimes Ring. The Anglican people
are noted for their splendid entertain-
ments and will no doubt have a good
crowd.
The Odd'fellows of Hensall Lodge
held a social evening an Friday even-
ing last in their hall. There was a
good attend'ance,
Mr, Roy McLaren has been confin-
ed to his home for the past week by
illness,

Mrs. C. A. MciDonell very pleasant-
ly entertained the members of her
Sunday school class to tea on Friday
evening last. A very pleasant even-
ing was spent in music and games and
all the young people had a very en-
joyable evening.
The firemen have the Christmas
tree in front of the townhall nicely
decorated and electric rights that
when the lights are shining makes a
very nice appearance.
Quite a number from Hensail at-
tended the duck shoat at Chisellmrst
on Wednesday of last week.
Our merchants have all their win-
dows decorated for Christmas, all
showing a splendid display of beauti-
ful things for Christmas shoppers to
choose from. Santa should ,find no
difficulty in making his many pur-
chases,
We had our first real snow- storm
last week. Our worthy friend, C. S.
'Hudson, mail carrier for R.R. 2, made
his trip on Wednesday with horse and
cutter, but on Tuesday had to take
the wheels again.
The A,Y,P.A. of St. Paul's Anglican
Church entertained the A:Y,PJA. of
the Anglican Church, Bayfield, on
Monday evening. A large crowd was
present and a very enjoyable evening
was spent, the Bayfield people putting
on the program.

W. M. S. — The regular monthly
meeting of the Women's Missionary
Society was held on Wednesday after-
noon, December 9. The meeting was
in charge of Mrs. W. Turner. We op-
ened our meeting with hymn 253. The
Scripture lesson was read responsive-
ly from St. Mark, chapter 16,. Hymn
500 was sung. Mrs, Root, Stephen-
son then led in prayer. The Secret-
ary's and Treasurer's reports were
read and adopted. The business was
then taken. The devotional leaflet
was given by Miss Annie Jarrott. To-
pics on Temperance were given. The
leaflet on the study was taken by Mrs.
W. Turner. ,Hymn 241 was sung, The
officers for the new year were elected
as follows: Honorary President—Mrs.
J. Cochrane, Mrs, ,W. Turner; Presid-
ent—Mrs. R. McAllister; 1st Vice
Pres.—Mrs. Robt. Stephenson; 2nd

Mr. Ross Richardson returned to
.his home after spending a few days
with his sister in Tilsonburg.
Mrs. G. Lavander and babe spent a

Mr, Orville Smith spent the week
end with his brother in Kincardine.
Christmas c'on'certs are now the or-
der of the day, S.S. No. 3, Hay, will
hold their entertainment .on Tuesday
evening, December 22 at 8 o'clock.

Mr. George Bell has returned from
attending the funeral of his, little
granddaughter, Enid, twin daughter o'f
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bell, of 5144
Fourteenth street, Detroit, which took
place in that city on Wednesday last.
Two-year-old Enid, who' was killed by
a car on .Sunday, and her twin sister,
Ethel M'ay, won second prize in The
!Detroit Times baby contest just two
weeks ago, and that paper published a
large photo of the two 'babies sitting.
in a tub, which had been snapped by
their mother while in the country this
fall, and is a very cute picture. On the
afternoon of the accident Mr. and
Mrs. Bell and children had been out
for a drive and the accident hap'pen'ed,
in front of their house. Upon return-
ing home Mr. Bell told the twins to
remain at the curb while he locked
the car door. As soon as released
+from her parent's hand, Ethel May
ran to the front o'f the car, avid her
father caught her in his arm's and car-
ried her back. 'In the meantime Enid
toddled around the rear of the car into
the road and Mr. Bell, still carrying
-Ethel May, darted to .pull her to safety
and just as he grasped her she wa
hurled twenty feet along the pavemen
by a passing Motorist, receiving terr
Me injuries. The motorist, a work
Dingman by the name of Sidney Soren
son, of 159921' Holmur avenue, had
been hurrying to the hospital, having
just received word that his son was in
a critical condition following a serious
operation. He was questioned by the
'police and examination of the car
showed his brakes to be d'efec'tive.
'Much sympathy is felt here as the
twins and their' mother spent six
weeks here during the sum'm'er.

The choir of Turner's Church held
a fowl supper at Mr. and 'Mrs. Fear's
and all report having a good time.
Mr. George Armstrong as returned
to his home after a visit with his datt-
ryh':ter in Bayfield.
Mr, James Lave still continues
poorly and is confined to the house,
Mrs. James Allan had. the misfort-
une to hurt her hand.

were visiting in London Saturday

'Mr. and Mrs, Lawrence Moffatt ,and

Adams brought a very march appreci-
ated and inspiring Christmas message.

and Harvey Taylor have all installed

'Mrs, George Cook of God'erich
township spent the week end with her
daughter, Mrs. Jos. Riley.
Miss Phoebe Wakefield is at present
visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Glazier of 'Stratford.

Goshen W.M,'S for the December
meeting. Mrs. D. J. Stephenson, the
!president, led the neeti.nlg. The mean-
s 'bers all answered the roll 'call with a
verse con'tain'ing the word sacrifice.
Rev, Pointer conducted the election
of officers there being iso change. Mrs.
Henry Erratt gave a helpful temper-
ance reading, Rev. Poulter gave a
violin selection. The ladies were
very pleased at having re'a'ched their
allocation. Miss Olive Erratt presid-
ed at the organ. A good lunch was
served after the meeting adjourned
during a social half hour.

visiting her parents, Mr, and Mrs. H.
D. Steckle, for the past two weeks,
has returned to. Waterloo.
'Mrs, J. A. Carnie spent a law days
last week with her sister-in-law, Mr's.
J. M. Tough, of Bayfield,
Mrs, Geo. Campbell and her bro-
ther, Mr. John Turner, motored• to
Liman on Friday last, returning on
Saturday.
Miss Mary Johnston and her broth-
er, Thomas, of Hay township, visited
friends on the Bronson on Tuesday,
A Christmas entertainment will be
held in SS. No. 5, Stanley ('Goshen
school) on Tuesday evening, Dec. 22.
The program will consist of songs,
drills, dialogues and, recitations. A

On Wednesday night of last week
the A.Y.P.1A. of Middleton, Hayfield
and Varna, met in the Orange hall,
Varna, The president, Miss Lucy
Woods, called on Miss Margaret Chu -
ter, who read a very interesting paper
an. Chants and Psalms, Miss Lucy
Woods gave a lengthy and very int-
eresting paper on Hymns, both An-
cient and Modern, followed by Mrs.
Kan Taylor, A ,Description of Carols,
while Mrs. Paull presided at the org-
an and very ably accompanied each
reading with musical illustrations. The
choir of the A.Y,IP,iA, rendered hymns
between each reading. Altogether the
service was both intellectual and int-
eresting. .
Mrs, M. Reid and Mrs, A. Galbraith
motored ' to Brussels Sunday.
Mr, ,and Mrs, F. Weekes motored to

day.
