A Christmas concert will be held in.

The two young men had been talking
to several girls nn the street for a few
minutes and one of the girls was
standing on the running board only a
moment before. The Traffic Officer
was called and declared both parties
were equally responsible. The front
of the Brussels car was badly da-
maged.
A tweeting of the Library Board of
the \\.alt. n P Colic Library was held
at the home of lira Kirkby on Satur-
day afternoon December 12th A com-
mittee wae appointed:the chairman,
Rev. C. Cummings. Miss Simpson,
Mrs. P. McTaggart, Mr. Percy Tay-
lor, to buy, new books for the library.
A meeting of this committee is called
for December 29th. Anyone desiring
new books will please hand in their
suggestions to anyone on this com-
mittee before that date. Again we
would remind all those having library
books in their possession to please
leave the sante at the library that they
may be re -catalogued.
The Sunday School of Bethel Unit-
ed Church will hold their Chirstmas
concert Tuesday evening, December
22nd.

White Gift Service A large crowd
attended the annual White Gift ser-
vice held in Queen street United
'Church on Sunday evening. A pag-
eant, "The Spirit of Christmas," was
given and the many gifts were pres-
ented by pupils of the Sunday School.
Mrs Gladys Fawcett gave the read-
ing on "The First White Gift" A la-
dies' quartette, "The Prince of Peace
was given by Mesdames H. Mc'Edroy,
I}. Floody, \5,rm. Gibson, and R. Wal-
lace. A male quartette. 'Silent Night"
was given by Messrs. Irvine Wallace,
Harold \Vightman, Win. Lyons and
David Floody.

McNair and Mr. Ashton, teachers of
Blyrh Public School, also about forty
of their pupils on Thursday evening
last, prior to Mr, Ashton leaving for,
Brussels, where he will teach,
Mrs. Farssh of Denfield expects to
spend the winter months with her sis-
ter, Mrs. R. 13. :McGowan,
Mr. and Mrs. MoNabh moved on
Saturday hack to their home near
Brussels from the house which they
occupied for several months.
Mr, Arthur Steinhoff, a well known
citizen Of Blyth, died on Sunday nvor-
nitvg about 7:30 o'clock, after three
years of invalid life. During the last
twelve months he was given constant
attention by his daughters, Miss Phe-
mia Steinhoff and Mrs. Geo. Leith.
His daughter, Mrs. 'Win, Johnston of
ILyletan, Manitoba, spent a few weeks
at home last summer, The deceased
is also survived by one son, Mr,
George Steinhoff. of ,Blyth. Mr, Stein -
Koff was 83 years of age. Mrs, Stein-
hoff, who was 'formerly Miss McGow-
an, died a,few years ago. The fun-
eraI'+was held in St. Andrew's United
Church, Myth, Tuesday afternoon, the
pastor, Rev. George Weir, officiating.
Miss Hazel Leslie, nurse -in -train-
ing at Victoria hospital 'in London,
spent the week -end at her 'home here,

combe visited the latter's cousins, Mr,
and Mrs. Richard Newcombe, in Lon-
don last week.
Mr. and Mrs. 'Geo. Collinson of Kin -
tail visited Mrs, Geo. Collinson 'Sr, on
Sun day.
Mr, and Mrs. Earl McElroy and
Mr. and Mrs, Bert •Mc'Elroy and two
children, of Detroit, spent the week-
end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Thos. McElroy, Mr. Bert 'MeElroy
entitled "The Wheat Field." The first
verse of "We Give Thee but Thane
Own." and the dedication hymn were
sung, During the business part of the
meeting it was decided that we would
have no meeting next week. The topic,
'Open the gate of the courtyard,"
was taken by Stanley Hillen. The
meeting closed by singing hymn 571,
followed by the benediction.

The Y.P.L. met in the basement of
the church on Tuesday evening, Dec,
15th, with a good attendance. Marg-
aret Cuthill had charge of the meet -
'me. which opened with a call to wor-
ship. Hymn 1127 was sung, after
which Margaret Cuthill led in,prayer.
Psalm 19 was read responsively, fol-
lowed by singing hymn Me. The
Scripture lesson, Matthew, MO chap-
ter, and Luke, 2nd chapter, was read
by Norine Little. Mae Hamburger fa-
vored with a solo, after which Mar,-

Mr. Stant Regele, who treated him-
self to a new car the past summer is
enjoying himself and thinks it is the
best companion. He enjoys moderate
driving, believing that one can take in
the scenery and is against racing. By
taking a little time one gets where ite
wants to go and never gets into
trouble. If every driver were like Sam
there would be no traffic laws requir-
ed.

of Ontario, at the Provincial (Winter
Fair, Guelph. ITtmhe winters met with

team, only five pointe separating
them: Bruce County ranked third,
York fourth, and 1Durham filth, and
only sixty-three points stood between
the five •high teams in the event. The
possible score was 3,000, •Peed having
the excellent count of 2,278. Ontario
County took highest standing and
won the Glen Ormond trophy for
fudging of :he'avy. horses. Durham
County team won first •place and the
IFiseher trophy in the inter -county
seed judging competition with a score
of 2,;593 points, being followed by Ox-
ford, Peel, Grey and York.

Agricultural statistics released from.
Ottawa as ,part of the +1931' censlis re-
veal an increase in 'the acreagesowot

except oats. (Wheat .jumped :frotra 20
to 26 million acres, and barley increas-
ed by one and one-half million acres.
Oats declined' by about one anal' one-
half mullion acres. There were slight
increases itt the case of potatoes, cul-
tivated hay, mixed grains and rye.
