(Mrs John Fisher is visiting her
daughter in Toronto.
Mr. George C. Petty has sold his
(dwelling house just across the track
from the railway station, recently oc-
cupied by Thos. S!ha'ddock, to Loyd
Venner, w110 has already moved in.
Mr, and Mrs. Thos..-Consitt have
got nicely settled in their new hone
on King street which they recently
,purchased from Mr. J. W. Ortwein.
`.Mrs. Ales. _Mc'Murtrie is visiting
with her sou in Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. William Consitt have
returned 'front Toronto where they
were visiting friends and also took in
the fair,
John Passmore, George Brock, Ed.
McQueen and George Follick have
returned from a week's shooting up
in the Bruce Peninsula,
Mr, Wnt. Lemtnnon, proprietor of
the New- Commercial Hotel, has add-
ed to the comfort and appearance of
the hotel by the erection of a pouch
at the front door.
The friends of Rev. J..11 Connell,
who preached here for a number of
years in Carmel Presbyterian Church
previous to the union, will regret to
learn that he is seriously i11. It ap-
pears that Mr. McConnell had been
invited to take the services of one of
this former congregations and when
going there was taken very ill.
Mr. John Shepherd took in the
winter fair in Toronto last week and
while there also visited friends.
A fire about six o'clock on Saturday
evening destroyed the frame barn on
the fifty acre fanm, 3rd concession of
1Tuckersntith, east of Hensel], belong-
ing to Robert Cooper, One of Er.
Cooper's sons was doing the evening
chores when. the lantern exploded.
The stock was all outside, but a num-
ber of implements and quite a quan-
tity of hay .Was burned. The barn and
contents were insured.
The A.Y:P.A. of St. ;Paul's Anglican
Church were the guests of the A.Y.
PA. of the Middleton Church, G'ode-
rich, in the Orange Hall, at Baylfield
on Friday evening. The visitors sup-
plied the prograim. Mr, S. L. Peppier
ecter as chairman, The Rev. Mr,
Parker showed some very interesting
lantern slides on the life of St, Paul,
'and also depicting the terrible tor-
tures to which the early Christians.
were subjected. Mrs. Peppier gave
an amusing reading and a duet was
rendered by Louisa Drummond and
Irene Hoggarth, entitled, "School
Days." Mrs. Vanley gave a very int-
eresting talk on church symbols which
was shown on the screen. An organ
solo was given by Margaret Drum-
mond, an accordion solo by Thomas
Bennett Two splendid contests were
given in charge of the Rev. Mr. Par-
ker, after which. refreshments were
served.
Election talk is quiet in the vii' -age
for the coming year's council, but as
there is usually an election in the vil-
lage each year, things will most likely
brighten up before nomination day.
A court of revision on the Hensall
municipal voters' list will be held in
the town hall on Decelmiber 14th be-
fore the county judge.
Mr. Alex, Sparks left last week for
Detroit where he will spend the win-
ter with his sons,
Misses Mary and Emma Johnston
have returned hone after a pleasant
visit with friends in Windsor.
Mrs. Sarah Dick has left for Tavis-
tock where she will spend the winter
with her daughter, Mrs. ('Dr.) 'Caw-
,thrope.
Mrs. Joseph Hudson Sr., celebrated
cher 91st birthday on Thursday last.
Mrs. Hudson is hale and hearty, doing
e lot of her own housework and en -
joy's life and her many friends wish
her many more happy birthdays.
(Reeve Geiger is in Goderich this
week attending the county council.
Miss Alice Higgins is visiting in
Kitchener..
The meeting- of the young people's
league of the United Church was well
attended on Monday evening, A good
program was given, The ,meeting op-
ened by the singing of a hymn, roll
call and business of the evening, after
which a trio by 'Hisses 'Sinclair Spen-
cer and. McDonald, accompanied on
the piano by Miss Gladys Luker. The
topic was taken by. Mrs, Hugh Mc
-
-Ewen and Katherine Drysdale. In-
s'trumental by Miss Florence Welsh,
duet by Mrs: Geo. -Iess and Mrs. Alf
(Clark, reading by Miss Mattie Ellis,

John Edwin Britton,—There passed
away on December 1st John Edwin
Britton in his 518tlt,year .after an il'l'ness
of over two years, although not con-
fined bo his bed until the last two
weeks, When he took a turn for the
worse' and suffered a great deal until
the merciful Father relieved him of all
his suffering. The deceased was born
on the farm on which be died. Twen-
ty-one years ago he was united in
marriage to Miss Jean Love, who is
left to mourn the loss olf a kind and
loving husband, also one sister, .fir's.
M. D. Weir of Weldon, Sask., and
:one brother William, of bhe Tp. of
Hulietit. The funeral service takes
place at 2 p.m. on T'hurs'day afternoon,
'December 3'rd, from his late residence,
lot"17, con. 17, Ito the place of inter-
ment in the Maitland Bank Cemetery.
The services are being conducted by
hos pastor, Rev. J. Johnson. The
p'alibearers are Messrs. Peter Lind-
say, George Wheatley, David Millsoag.

extend their deepest sympathy to the

local board of health was 'held Friday
evening at ;8 p,ni, in the clerk's office,
all members being present. _Minutes of
previous meeting read and adopted.
'Dr. Moir reported the health of the
village as being exception'a'lly good
and therefore no quarantining being
necessary this year. Also the inspec-
tion of the school children, having in-
spected 191 pupil's and of having good
results with same. A number of pu-
pils being found defective, having re-
ported same to their parents. N.
Blatchford reporlted everything ina
good sanitary 'condi'tion. Consider-
able discussion took .place as regards
the milk supplied to the village and
it was moved and seconded that we
appoint the. local veterinary surgeon
to inspect at his discretionalil anilk
