Treleaven.—The ,death occurred early 'Tuesday anorum ing at his residence; Clinton, of J. W. Treleaven, who had for many years .been a- resident of 'Clinton, who had been absent for about eight years and hacl only returned a couple, of weeks -ago.Mr. Treleaven was a graduate of Clinton Collegiate and lilad been a •memibee of its staff fox a term or two early in his career, then returned la- ter ancl remained for about eighteen years, the latter half of the term as principal. He resigned eight years ago to take the principalship of Timsnins high school where he remained until l'as't year,, when he retired and settled temporality in •Lueknaw, Mr. Trelea- ven was born at Lucknow, where his boyhood was spent. He attended the .Clinton Collegiate later on and in 18194 was graduated from the Univer- sity of Toronto. After his graduation he taught in Kem'ptville, Listowel, Chilton and Alnonle, returning again. 'to Clinton, He was an excellent tea- cher and always had the welfare of his pupils at heart. W'h'ile in Almonte )be was united in marriage to Miss. .Azie Gi'bbings, daughter of Mr. John Gib'bings of Clinton, who survives 'him, with their daughter Norma. It was while in Timmins that Mir. Tre- leaven suffered an illness from which he never wholly recovered, alth'otrgh 'he rallied sufficiently to resume in a measure his duties as prin'ci'pal. At the end of the school term last year, how- ever, he resigned and came to Luck - now where he remained for a year. The family then decided to return to Clinton, \\'here they still owned their -residence, and it is only 'a couple of weeks since they got settled in it. Be- sides his wife and daughter, a brother and a sister reside at Lucknow. In- terment was made in Clinton ceme- tery. He was an adherent of Dn'tario street United Church. Engagement.—Mr, and Mrs, W. J. Proctor of Brussels announce the en- gagement of their only daughter, Lulu Aden, to Air. Walter Kerr, also of Brussels, son of Mrs. Kerr and the ;'ate Mr., Walter Kerr of Milverton, the marriage to take place the second week in October. - B•AY2FIELD• Mrs. -Thomas Mullen, who has spent the past two months in the vil- lage accompanied her husband, who spent the week end here, to Detroit. Miss E..Honghton and .Miss E. Gib - ,on of London, Miss Rose Kennedy, .\Ir. and Mr.. King, Maurice and Ev- elyn King and Miss Hilda Shea, of Stratford, are among those who have recently returned to their homes af- ter having spent the season at their cottages in Bayfield, Mr, and Mrs. James P. Ferguson, London, visited with the former's mei-'' ,her, Mrs, Al. Ferguson. •-hiss Annie McLeod accompanied Mr. and Mrs. C. A. :Plater and family who spent the week end with her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs, W. J. McLeod, on their return to Detroit where she is visiting her sister. Rev. A. Macfarlane of Niagara on the Lake called on friends in the vil- lage during the week. Mr. and Mrs. George Maclutyre o'f. Detroit and the latter's mother, Mrs. .Spark:, of Hensall, visited Mrs, Sparks' brother, Robert Delgaty, on Tuesday. Wm. R. 'Murray was severely injur- ed when he :truck the side of a cul- vert near Port Huron when driving home from .Detroit was able to be brought from the hospital in Port' Huron to his home -here. He is suf- fering .from injuries to his knee and chest and severe cuts on his face, neck and tutee. He was blinded by Mite -lights of a car which he was meet- ing so did not notice the culvert, The car, which is almost a total wreck, was thrown into the ditch and he :ay among the debris far about three hours before he was able to summon aid. MITCHELL Another motor fatalitiy in the \titehe"l at -ea within two days \\'ed- nesday night claimed the life of Brock Nichols, Stratford student, aged 20 years. Brock Nichols died of a frac- tured tkult shortly after' a roadster in which he was riding alone overturned on a sideroad near Gould's school- Nouse, c ool-ihause, two and a half miles southeast if Mitchell a'bou't 8 o'clock. Apparent- ' ly the drirer lost control and the ma- chine rolled over three times in the ditch. It seems that young Nichols had borrowed the car from John Acre of Mitchell for the purpose of visiting'. a service station east of Mitchell. He proceeded instead to the home of his', uncle, James Nichols, in Fulla ton, where he remained for a few minutes, '1t was while returning to Mitchell that the accident occurred. It is under- stood that young Acres had recently come into an estate and it was with .this money he had purchased the car "but a short time ago. -Famous Last Words—"The groom thinks he deft the Wedtding ring in nils. pther suit,," • .
