Women's Institute. — The regular
monthly meeting of the Women's
Institute was held in Memorial Hall
on Thursday, September 3rd. Presid-
ent Mrs. R. Richmond presided.
Meeting opened by singing the ,open-
ing Ode, Mowed by the Lord's
prayer in unison. During the business
part of the meeting it was 'decided to
have our annual .fowl supper on Wed-
nesday, November 11th, Program
•committee, Mrs, H. .,[•Elroy,. Mfrs.
Herrington, Mrs. Richmond and airs.
'Colclough. Mrs. A. Brigham gave
a splendid paper on Life and
!History. Conituun'ity singing fol-
lowed. A flower contest was held,
Mrs, A. Taylor and Mrs. J. .!McGill
acted as judges, First prize was
awarded to Mrs. Alberta Bender for
roses; second to Mrs, Wm. Bryant
Mr Sweet peas. "Third to Mrs, A.
'Brigh!am for gladiolus. Roll call was
well responded by My Favorite Flow-
er. The national anthem was sung in
closing. The hostess served a very
.tasty lunch and a social time was
enjoyed, The committee in charge
were Mesdames W=ighrtnan, J. Craig.

.offertory prayer. A reading was then
given by Mrs. Miohie of .Belgrave,1

Died fn Seaforth.-On Friday mor-
ning, September 11.th, a very sad
death took place in the Seafortb hos-
pital, when Margaret Drake, 16 year
old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Drake, passed away as the result of
an automobile accident the week be-
fore, The remains were removed to
her parents' hoarse near Staffa and the
funeral was held Sunday afternoon at
two o'clock to the Staffa cemetery
and was unusually largely attended.
The services were conducted by the
Rev. R. N. Stewart, of Staffa United
Church. There were many beautiful
Horat trihutei and the pallbearers
were Allen McDougall, John Ryan,
Robert McCaughey, Ted "Sillery, M.
Lamont and Prank .Hamilton. She
leaves to mourn her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. John Drake, three sisters, Mrs.
Jim McKellar, Verna and Zoe: at
one and two brothers, Jack and Bill,

bereaved parents, brothers and sisters..

The residence of Mr. Brine Mara
was burned to the ground last Sunday
about ' 3 p.m. The scarcity of water
hindered bhe bucket brigade from sav-
ing the building, but all t'he contents
were saved. The house was a total
loss as there was no in'surasce. The
cause of the fire is supposed to be
a spark Moen the chimney. •
The many 'friends of Mr. John
Deitz are sorry to learn of .his late ill-
ness and hope for his speedy recov-
ery.
'Mr. Fred Eckert, accompanied by
Mr. J. M. Ecleart and his daughter,
Angelica, and Mrs, M. Desbura and
Miss Catherine O'Connor, motored to
Oakville last Sunday to visit frieeds.

The W.M.S. held their :montth'ly
meeting at the 'hoarse of Mr. and Mts.
Wm, Britton on' Wednesday after-
noon. The meeting opened with the
president, Mrs. Lindsay, pres'id'ing.
After singing bhe ,hymn, "0 Forever
They wiB Come," bhe president led in
prayer. The minutes of last meeting
were read acrd adopted. It was de-
cided to send a 'bele of clothing to
help the needy in the Wert, to be
sent through bhe Red' Crass, After
which Mrs. Roy Lawson read the
(Scripture lesson, the last chapter of
St. John's gospel, and gave a ' yery
'help'ful talk. Mrs. McGregor read a
splendid paper, "We Would See
Jesus." After a .hymn was sung, Mrs.
(Ciller Adams gave an instructive talk
on the story book of Japan- Then
Mrs. Coakley led in prayer. The
.meeting was closed in prayer by Mrs.
Ed. Britton, Lun'c'h was served. ,

Mr. Oliver And'ersoii left this week
on. a visit to the West.
Misses Doreen and Viola 'Clarke re-
turned .home iSat:urday after spending
a week at Toronto.

WILL TEACH ESKIMOS
TO HANDLE REINDEER.
(Bound for Akl'svik, in the North
West Territories, there to teach the
Canadian Eskimos how- to care for
reindeer herd's, ten Laplanders arrived
at Halifax .on the liner Grips!holm and
left by Canadian National Railway for
Winnipeg. From there they will pro-
ceed to the far North to undertake
their novel teaching bask, The Laps
have been brought over by the Can-
adian. Government tender three years'
contract to ineer uct the Eski•mb inthe
care of reindeer, Tor many years, the
Eskimo in that' section of the North
have been regarded as a dying .race,
avnt:g precariously by trapping and
fishing. A number of conference's' have
.been held and as a result this reindeer
.experiment is being m=ade. Under the
direction of the Laplanders, a num-
ber 'o'f 'Eskimos will take .a course in
the care of the reindeer, the Govern-
=rent furnishing food for these rein-
deer stterlentslfok a term of three years,°
followed by a period of four- years'
contract, after which' the Eskimos ere
extpected to become self supporting. by
means of their reindeer hendsi.
