Death of Mrs. Weekes. --=The death
occurred at her home in Varna on
Monday morning of Roxhsea Weekes,
in her 98Th year. Mrs. Weekes *as
born at Shedden, Ontario, and came
to the homestead on the Parr line .54
years ago from Sealant!". where she
and her husband had. lnvod.. Twenity-
three years ago, following the death
of her hus'band, she moved into Varna
where she had since lived. Always of
a bright and ,happy disposition, she re-
mained young in spirit and liked the
company of the young folks more and
more as the years went by. Suaviving
are three sons and three daughters:

zona; Mfrs. Alfred Plewes, of Mtaoso
lain, Sask,; Mrs. IvIcL'anen, of Van-
couver; M'lrs. Wil's'on McAah, o'f Lan-

ceased her. She also leaves one sister,

• Death of:Alex, Thomson,—!One of
the best known and highly respected
residents of Stanley .p'as'sed 'away at
his home of the Hay'fi'eld road early
F rid'ay morning, July 31 in the p'erso;n
of Alex. Thomson, at the ripe old age
of S'3 yeHars, tfoliotwiug an illness of se-
veral weeks, Mr., Tho'ntson' was born
at Rosshire, Scotland, in the year
1848 and carne to this country with
his parents whee three years o:f age
and 'lived' all the rest of !his life an the
homestead on which he died, On May
23rd, 18177, he was married to Sarah
Baird, who, predeceased hint 12 years
ago. He was a than of quiet and
kindly disposition and will be much
missed by those who knew him best,
and in his os'n home. He was one
of The old tinge threslhers, having
threshed thirty,flve years with horse
power. He also spent several seasons
grading reads 'same of which are now
our ihiglhlways. He was a member of
Bru'celfieid TJnited) Church, also a
charter member of Bru'cdfia1d Odd -
fellow Lodge, having been an Odd -
fellow for 55 years. He is survived
by two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Mc-
Queen, Rrucelfield, and Mrs, J'antes
B:owey, Exeter, and daughter-in-law,
Mrs. James "Thomson, his only son,
Janes, h!aving'predneceased .him seven
nnonths ago, and two grandchildren.
He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Heiner
of Eyebrow, Saisk, and two brothers,
Hugh and fames, of: Moose Jaw,
Sask. The funeral . took place on
Monday afternoon to ,Baird's ceme-
tery. The services at the house were
conducted by the Rev. Mr, Conner al
Kip'peny int -the absence : of his pastor,
Rev'. Mir. Bremner. The Oddfellows
took charge at the cem..etery. A large
nu'm'ber of friends gathered to pay
their Oast respects to the departed.
The pallbearers were Jas. Boyce, Jno,

Hugh Aiken'head, Hugh Gilmour.

:Another . sad drowning accident oc-
curred Monday raftern'oon about four
o'clock .when Charles Neville of Mon-
treal was drowned in Goiderucih har-
bor, The young man who was only
twenty years of age, had been em-
ployed on a freighter which left the
port on Monday. He left the boat
here anld was enjoying a swim .in the
lake. One of the .boys on the pier
noticing the young roan in difficulty,
asked if he wanted help, and saran
out to him. As N:evidle was a much
larger .man, and alu'tched out to .grasp
the,boy, the latter cried !frantically for
help, but no one heeded the cry until
the youth had gone down. When he
was recovered, only 20 minutes later,
Dr. Callow add D•e. Hunter were call-
ed and worked over him for two. hours
without avail. Mr. Neville's parents
are not living and a brother in Mon-
treal was communicated with. Neville
and a chum, it is said, were working
their way to Montreal, and' intended
leaving here by rail.
AUBURN.
The funeral of Elizabeth Hamilton,
wife of Richard Sprung, which took
place here 'Tunes'day a'fternoan dram
the residence of her brother, Thomas
Hamilton, was conducted by Rev. W.
J.'Mortineore of the United Church.
The late Mrs. Sprung, who was the
eldest child of t!he late Thomas and
Elizabeth Jlane Hamilton, was born 75
years' ago on the family homestead
Lot 11, Coli. 8, Colborne Township.
The deceased had not enjoyed goad
health since taking up her residence
here T'h'ree years and suffered from
high blood pressure and hardening o'f
the arteries, Her ,l'a'st illness develop-
ed into an attack of pleurisy and
pn'euntonta, which her weakened con-
stitution was unable to withstand and
she entered into rest early Saturday
evening. After her nvarria'ge to her
husband, who survives her, they lived
for many years on's mile south of
Attburn an the Base Line on the farm
now occupied by John Wagner. Later
the, family moved to G:oderich and
still Hater to,Alberta..Mes. Sprung was
a woman of very industrious habits
and clever at needle craft' and garden-
ing. Many of the alder residents will
reme,isber her splendid exhibits at the
fall fairs. The deceas'ed is also sur-
vived ;by all her children, !Gabriel Rioy,
Consort, ,Alberta; Mrs. Aaron Fischer,
Colborne, and Mrs, Wlm, Wallace,
Calgary, who arrived ' ]fere on 'the
noon train Monday. Fosir sisters,
