been visiting here for some time, has
returned to his home in Toronto.
On Thursday last while Mr. Walter
Madge was sharpening his saw on an
emery stone the stone flew to pieces,
one piece hitting Mr. Madge, break-
ing his collar bone.
Mrs. Christie and SOS Norman of
Russelldale visited 'friends in town last
week.
Miss Finley of Blake is spending a
few days this week visiting friends
here.
Miss Margaret Douglas of Hyde
Park is visiting at the home of Mrs.
John Johnston.
The Death of Robert Traquair. —
The death occurred in Tuckersmith
just east of Hensel] of Robert Tra-
quair in his 67th year, Mr. Traquair
has been a life long resident of Tuck-
erstriith Township and has been well
and popularly known. He had been
in prior health for some time and gra-
dually weakened till he passed away.
Besides his wife he leaves to mourn
his loss, Mrs. Roland Williams of Us -
borne Township, and Mrs. Arthur

The inlay friends .of Mr. Charles
Nfeilregar were shocked to hear of his
;sudden death Sunday evening.
Mr. Geo. Little returned from the
West on Sunday and brought the
burly of hia hrother Joseph Little who
diel there. The funeral was held
on Tuesday to Maitland Bank Ceme-
tery, and was largely attended. Rev.
W. F. Smith took the services and the
pallbearers were James Smith, Win.
Trowarthe, John 13ullard, John Little
Jr., Willis Dundas and Wm. John-
ston. The late Joseph Little was
born 70 years ago in McKillop, a son
of Mr, John W. Little. He went to
the West about 40 years ago, and was
unmarried. Three brothers and three
sisters survive: Charles, John and
George of this district; Mrs. Wm.
Scarlett (Emily) London; Mrs. Thos.
Adams (Susannah) of Saskatoon;
Mrs. Wm, Ross (Grace) of Bruce -
field.
Mr. and Mrs. Foster Bennett spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Geo.
Eaton.
Mr. and Mrs. Chambers returned
Friday from their honeymoon. The
bride was Miss Elmira Shannon, one
of our popular young girls of the
village. We wish them many years
of happiness and prosperity.

• On Monday, Oct. 20th there passed
away at Flint, N.I.Ich., a former resid-
eat of Stanley in she person of Mrs.
Elizabeth Johaston ia her 75th year,
Death came as a welcome release, as
she had been a sufferer for same years
froth that dread disease, caacer. She
W1,19 born in.Stanley where most of
her life was spent. Her maiden name
was Eliza Hickey. At the age of 5
years she was taken into the home
of the late Mr. and Mrs, David Arm-
strong with whom shemade her
home till 'her marria.,,ae,•413 years ago
to lir. Samuel Johnston.' To them
were born a family of 2 sons end 2
daughters: David, of Pilot Mound,
Man.; William. of Flint, Mrs. Chester
Dunkin and Mrs.. John- Reid oa Flint.
Her husband passed away 20 years
ago. Since then she has made her
honse with her daughters, who gave
her laving care and did all that could
he done for her comfort during her
years of suffering. Mrs, Johnston was
a woman of very cheerful disposition
and her kind and loving nature en-
deared her to all with Whom she came
in contact, She was a .faithful and
consistent .member of the Varna
Presbyterian Church and 'her Christ-
ian faith bore her up through her
'trials Mid suffering. The funeral was
held on Wednesday from Varna Unit-
ed Church, Rev. Mr. Poulter having
charge of the service. The large
crowd of sympathizing friends and
the beautiful floral tribute both spoke
of the high esteem in which the de-
ceased was held. The pall -bearers
were Win. Pollock, Alec McConnell,
"Wm. Hart, Ralph Stephenson, Robt.
McClinchey and Wan. Dawson.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Stewart of Strat-
ford, following a few days' visit at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Walt-
tsuernneodf. the 11th concession, have re -

Blyth had as their guest last Sab-
bath, Mr. and Mrs. A. Wells of Lon-
desboro.

Mr. and Mrs. Hesk of the 8th con-
cession had a visit from Mrs. Lyon of
Londesboro last week.

Miss Lavinia recently visited relatives
.Goderich.
Fire caused by an exploding lan-
tern last 'Wednesday night,destroyed
the barn on Mr. Orval. Phillip's farm
on the Highway at Alma corner, 33s
mites west of Seaforth. The horses
and pigs were saved but a calf and
a pttp that was fastened in the cow
stable on account of his chasing hens,
were lost. Forty two tons of hay,
1,200 bushels of grain and the imple-
ments were in the barn and were des-
troyed. Mr. Phillips had about $2900
insurance on the place whicb will not
cover the loss. The lantern exploded
while sitting on the weigh scales, a
distance from. the hay chute into
horse stable, Mr. Phillips went to the
barn right after supper to put down
hay for the horses before milking and
was at the top of the mow furthest
from the lantern, when he saw the
light flicker, followedbythe explos-
ion. Fire was up to the roof and
down the chute before he reached the
door past the blaze. The wind was
blowing away from the house which
is a brick one.

visitors on Saturday.
Mn. and Mrs, Geo. McCall spent
Saturday at the home of Mr, Jas.
Wells.
Miss Laudy Young left Saturday
for a visit with Chatham friends. Miss
Young intends remaining for prob-
ably a couple of months.
Mr, and Mrs, John Nott, Miss Belle
and Mrs. M. Ross motored over to
Seaforth Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Elsley spent Sunday
with their son, Mr. J. D. Elsley of the
13th concession.
Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Roberton spent

Mr. Eris Lee is improving his
house by a coat of asbestos shingles.

The funeral' of Mrs. Purdy passed
through on Thursday. The late Mrs.
Purdy passed away in Kitchener and
the remains were brought to Bayfield
cemetery.
The many friends of Mrs. E. Epps
will be pleased to know she has re-
turned from the Seaforth hospital,
though far from well. We still hope
for a speedy recovery.
Mr. C. Rathwell after spending over
a year in the west and at the Coast,
has returned to Ontario feeling much
improved in health.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weekes spent
Sunday in Listowell.
Mrs. .McAsh of London is spending
a few days with her mother, Mrs,
Weekes.

the late Mrs. McKellar and are visit-
ing relatives in this vicinity.

doing research work in Africa is vis-
iting his father, Mr. Thos. Mahaffy.

Mr. and Mrs. All. Hunkin and fain-
tly of Thames Road spent Sunday

Mrs. Jeanne McKellar, widow of
the late Donald McKellar, an old and
highly respected citizen of this place,
passed away at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. George 'Wallace, at
Carlingford on Monday, October 20.
The deceased was in her 781h year
and had lived practically all her life
in this community. Her husband, died
two years ago. She leaves to mourn
her loss, a family of four daughters
and one son, Mrs. Thos. Scott, Mrs.
George Wallace, IVIrs, Elmer Colqu-
houn, Mrs, Hortou McDougall and
Lindsay of Cromarty, also four sis-
ters, Mrs. Alex. McKellar, Mrs. (Dr.)
Nesmith, Mrs. John Hoggarth and
Mrs. Wm. Etty.

assisting Mr. ,Albert Harvey, has re-
turned to his home in Zurich.
Miss Olive Anderson is visiting in
Whitechurch this week.

persons having claims against • the
estate of John W. Reid, also known
as John Wilson Reid, late of the Vil-
lage of Varna in the County of Hu-
ron, Retired Farmer, deceased, who
died on or about the nineteenth day
of July A.D. 1930, are required to
deliver to Charles Reid and Thomas
Wilmer Reid, the Executors of the
said estate or F.Finland, Solicitor,
on or before the 17th day of Novem-
ber A.D. 1930, a full statement of
their claims together with particulars
thereof, and the nature of the se-
curities, if any, held by them, all
duly verified by affidavit,
AND TAKE NOTICE that after
the last mentioned date the said Exe-
cutors will proceed to distribute the
estate of the said deceased amongst
the persons entitled thereto having
regard only to such claims as shall
have received due notice and in ac-
