mers' store house and Owen Geiger
appealed against his business .assess-

sessrnen!t :on the United Farmers
store house was not 'changed. The
Geiger business assessment was left
as it was but a slight reduction was
made on the assessment of his house.
Mr. Levi Rands brought in an appeal
at the meeting for Mr. J'a'cob Linden -
field, claiming that the assessment on
the Liitdenfiel:d property had been
raised this year, but this was found to
be a mistake as that assessment was
the sameas in l929. This concluded
the business- of the court of revision.
The council then went in session
for their regular monthly meeting.
The minutes of the last .meeting be-
ing read and adopted on notion of
, Ortwein & Petty. A number of corn-
' municattons were read and ordered
filed. The sanitary inspector, bur
Nelson Blatchford made his report,
stating that they had agenera; clean
up of the town and everything was

evening was well attended. The play
proved to be very interesting,the
players taking their parts exception-
ally well.
Mr. Thornton Mustard of Toronto
is spending a few days at his cottage.
Miss 'Maud Sterling, who came'
from Toronto on Saturday to visit
her sister here, left on Tuesday to
visit her sister in Port Elgin for a
few days, also to attend the nurses'
graduation at Owen Sound where she

The Reeve requested the shed com-
mittee to have the eavetroughing on
the west side of the community shed
repaired, as she water was doing da-
mage to the property of Wm. Shep-
herd, A number of accounts were
presented and ordered paid. At the
last meeting of the council the clerk
was instructed to get in touch with
the bonding c,anpany and buy bonds
for the col:ecter, treasurer, and the
manager of the local hydro commis-
sion. The clerk reported rhat..be had
done so and secured bonds for the
treasurer $5,000; collector, $2,000; and
the manager of the hydro commission
$2,000. The reeve was instructed to
order front 1; to 20 tons of caleiutn
chloride immediately to put on the
streets. Council then adjourned.
Conservative Convention - A large
crowd attended the convention and
annual meeting of the South Huron
Conservatives in Hensel] on Thurs-
day afternoon last. The convention
opened at 2 o'clock with Col. H. B.
Combe, president of the Association,
in the chair; -lar. N. W. Trewartha,
reeve of Clinton, received the nomina-
tion of the convention. The mover of
the nomination was A. H. Neeb of
Stephen township and seconder, ,Ir.
Carling f Exeter, Mr. Trewartha es-
cepted tate nomination and asked for
the hearty co-operation of the Con-
servatives of the riding. The princi-
pal speaker of the afternoon was Mr.
Mark Senn, M.P., for Haldimand
c uuty. Mr. Sean made a splendid
address seldom have we listened to
a more convincing and well reasoned,
address. Mr. Alex. Neeb and Mr,
Andrew Hick, were also called on
and gave short addresses. In \Ir:
Trewartha, the Conservatives of
South Huron have a splendid candi-
date. He was former reeve of Gode-
rich Township, Warden of Huron
County and is at present Reeve of
Clinton and is also one of the best
known produce dealers in Western
Ontario. He is also an extensive far-
mer and stock raiser, having several
farms at Holmesville, and no man in
the riding is better qualified to und-
erstand the needs of the farmer then
he. He was also a member of the
Legislature for Sottth Huron front
1923 to 1926 and during that time was
chairman of the agricultural com-
mittee. At the end of the meeting the
election of officers for the coming
year took place. The old executive
was all re-elected with a lady member
to be added from each municipality.
The officers of the executive will be
President, Col. H, B. Combe, of Clin-
ton; 1st Vice Pres., Mrs. Win. Con -
silt; 2nd Vice Pres., JohnHanna; 3rd
Vice Pres., firs, N. W. Trewartha;
Secretary, Robt. Higgins; Treasurer,
Geo. C Petty.
Mr. Thos, Me vidian, .M.P., who
was nominated Wednesday to contest
in
the Liberal interests is well known
and very popular over the riding. A
fight between Mr. Trewartha and Mr.
McMillen will be watched with a good
deal of interest e est b
y the people of Wes-
tern Ontario.
The Progressives of the riding in-
tend holding a convention here on
Thursday when Mr. Geo. Medd, M.
P.P. for South Huron, will be the
speaker.
(Boss & Brazier, contractors for
paving the London Road, are now
making splendid progress with their
contract. By Wednesday noon of
this week they will have half of the
cement laid and the work completed,
has a splendid appearance. They will
be in Hensel] with the paving in
about a week and will then start at
Kippen and work back to Hens'all.
The Highway Department have 'let
the contract of paving the road from
Lucan to the McGillivray -Stephen
town line, which will leave 5 miles
from Exeter and the south end of
Huron County which is not yet con-
tracted for. It is to be hoped the
Highway Department see their way
clear to finish this piece this fall, and
have the road completed from Clinton
to London.

Reeve Higgins is in Goderich this
week attending the (June session of
the County Council.

rich Monday attending the 50th anni-

Rev, Mr. Pinnock of Toronto gave
a very fine and instructive talk on his
work in Africa for 32 years and show-
ed connection the Bible Society bears
to the work of our missionaries.

Mr. and Mrs. Will McLean are
spending their holidays visiting their
parents.
We are sorry to hear of the sudden
passing of the wife of Rev. A. G.
Cameron, minister of St. Giles'
Church in 'Ottawa. Mrs. Camergn
died on May 8t'h following a• ,brief
illness. Her death 'came as a shock
to a wide circle of friends. Rev.., G.
Cameron is a Kippen old boy and re-
turned to be the special speaker at St.
Andrew's United Church's' Golden
Jubilee three years ago. Mrs. Cam-
eron was an accomplished musician
and was organist of St, Giles' Church.
She was an energetic worker in W.
M.S. and devoted Hutch time on the
Primary Dept. of the SJS. Surviving
besides her husband and bother, Mrs.
D. McLaren are one daughter, Miss
Alice Cameron, R.N•, of Ottawa, and
two sons, .Capt. (Dr.) Hugh Camer-
on of Montreal and Wm. of Ottawa.
The funeral was held on Saturday af-
ternoon, May 10th from St. Giles'
Church.
