Mr, Frank,Cudutore who has been

accepted a position with the Ford
Motor Co., Torontoend will assume
his new duties on Monday next,

Prompted by a desire to demon-
strate what he may have believed a
safety device for pedestrians, a jay
walking. mud turtle stet death of
Main Street Tuesday afternoon when
a car ran over him. The shell was
not, damaged, so possibly the turtle
had the right idea and who knows
but that a solution to the terrible toll
of life o'e our streets may yet be de-
vised by this method,
Mr. James Purcell is rapidly 'recov-
ering from the stroke he suffered of
late.
The many friends of Mr. L, C.
Jackson are pleased to know that he
is iniiproving after suffering a stroke
Sunday evening. One side of his
.body was paralyzed,
Mrs. J. A. Case arrived home' Wed-
nesday evening from Detroit,
Mr. Albert Reilly, of Port Iluron,
a nephew of Mr, and Mrs, Con: Eck -
ant, was killed in a railway crossing
accident on Saturday. Mr.. Reilly is
survived by his mother, Mrs. Thos.
Reilly and three brothers and two
sisters, all of .Port Huron,
Mr. Ed. Mole is moving this week
from his residence on Jla'mes street to
the house at the Waterworks where
he will reside, which was formerly oc-
culpied by the late Adam MacKay,
Mr, and Mrs. Douglas Wilson of
Toronto visited Mr, and Mrs, J. A.
Wilson on Sunday.
Mr. Jim Clenaghan of Detroit visit-
ed his sister, Mrs. James Purcell, for
several days at the end of the week.
Mr. George Belt is seriously i11,
having suffered another stroke on
Monday.
Mrs. Harry Watson of Goderich is
spending a• couple of weeks with her
parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. G. Willis.
The Lions Club held a "bee" on.
Wednesday afternoon for the purpose
of cleaning out the swimming pool.
Mr. Lawrence Talbot of. Stanley
spent Thursday with friends in town.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitmore of
Hamilton visited the latter's sister,
Mrs. Wm, Oke, over the week -end.
Mr. Vivian of Stratford was a guest
of Mr, and Mrs. W. W. Cowan on
Tuesday.,
Mr. and Mrs. Heath of Listowel
were visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs, W. Free on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hanna, Miss
Robertson and Mr. J. M. Robertson
attended the Conservative convention
in London on Friday.
Four tnentbers of the Public school
Board inspected the pliyground
equipment of Lucknow and Clinton
schools last week and the Board has
decided to supply the grounds with a
new slide and two swings. The wire
fence separating 'the girls' and boys'
grounds will be swung around to the
rear of the boys' yard.
Miss Mary Jackson of Thedford,
who has beenill, spent'the past week
at her home.
Reeve A. P. Keys of Stanley and
iltrs, jno. McAsh of Varna were
visitors on Tuesday with Mrs. W. L.
Keys.,
Mr, and Mrs. James I. Johnston
made a business trip to Loudon on
Monday in connection with Mr.
Johnston's fox farm.

tertained Ladies' Aid No. 3 last week
with a -full attendance.

The Marion Keith C. G. I. T. of
Northside United Church niet Wed-
nesday evening of this week. The
meeting opened !with the vice-presi-
dent, Evelyn Golding, presiding. Af-
ter having the roll call and the min-
utes of the last meeting the Scripture
lesson was read by Margaret Crich
and the Year Book by Winnie Say-
mtge. Mrs, Lane then led in prayer
after which we sang from the song
sheet. +We have accepted the invita-
tion from the Margaret Larkin C.G.
I:T. to join them in a hike next Wed-
nesday afternoon. We decided to
have a meeting later, on to make ar-
rangements for a camp which we
plan to- hold ten days following July
7th. We then held a contest after
which we closed the meeting with the
C:G,LT. benediction.

Running into a strand of barbed
wire after dark, Alvin Riley, youngest
sou of Mr. and Mrs. Cfiias, Riley, had
one side of his mouth badly torn one
night last week, He was taken to
Clinton and had several stitches put
in.

called on friends on Saturday.

The W.M.S. held their monthly
meeting on Thursday last. A quilt
was quitted, followed by a short pro-
gram with the president, Mrs. W.
Britton, presiding. Hymn 94, "Jesus
Shall Reign," was sung, after which
Mrs, Robt, Lawson and Mrs, W. Brit-
ton offered prayer. Minutes were
read and adopted, Mrs, Roy Lawson
read a paper on "Is Conscience the
Voice of God?" Hymn 91 was sung
and the meeting closed with benedic-
tion. Lunch was then served,
Mrs. Thomas' Pollard spent Satur-
day with relatives in London.

Cook of 'Goderich Township on Sun-
day last.

served their S.P.S. anniversary on
Sunday, May 18, with Rev, W. Wil-

ial preacher for the occasion. Large

monis Quartette of Listowel gave an
excellent .progrant which was enjoyed
by a good audience considering the

his home for the summer after at-
tending Western University.

Mrs. Win. -McGregor who has been
confined to her room for the past
month was taken to London Hospital
on Sunday last for treatment and her
many friends hope she may soon be
restored to her useful health.
Mr. John Oesch of Pigeon, Mich.,
spent the week -end with Kippen
friends and all were glad to see hint,
MN. French is improving nicely
after her recent severe illness.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Cooper have
got settled in their new home east of
the village.
Mr. Watson is putting on the last
old time dance of the season on Fri-
day night, which promises to surpass
all former ones and all wishing a real
treat should attend.
Misses Margaret and Grace Cooper
of Loudon spent the week -end with
their parents.
The many friends of Mr,. William
McGregor will be sorry to know she
was taken to Victoria, Hospital, Lon-
don, where she expects to have alt
operation soon. We sincerely hope
that her health will theft be much im-
p roc -ed.
Mrs, Beverly Beaton and son of
Detroit are visiting the former's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs, Jonas Green.
