Being physical night we ,played a few games which were directed by Miss Fennell, atter which the meeting closed by the C G. L T. benediction. MANLEY. Mr. Alex. Mitchell has completed sawing his stock of custom logs. (Word was received here last Satur- day that Mr. Jas. Purcell of Seaforth, but formerly of this place, received a stroke and was in a critical condition. We are pleased to learn that he is rallying and his many friends here wish him a speedy recovery. CONSTANCE. Mothers' Sunday service was quite a success. A splendid talk was given by Rev. Mr. Johnston, who took for his subject,' "\That Makes the Differ- ence,' He compared the status of wo- men in Christian countries with that of women in other countries. A sol- iloquy on .the question, "Will Christ Direct My Way," was given by Ruth Hugill, which was a very nice repre- sentation of the thought, Helen Brit- ton told the story, `The Most Beau- tiful Thing in the World." Mothers sang a chorus, "Mother's Prayers Have Followed Me." A duet by Mrs. Lindsay and Mrs, Stephenson, "My Mother," was also much appreciated. The Ladies' Aid and W.M.S. meet on Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield and two children, Norman and Grace, and lir, and Mrs. Leach, all of Lambton county, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Britton on Sunday last. Mrs, Matt. S. was held last Wednesday at home of Mrs. H. Jones: In spite of threat- ening storm twenty ladies attended the meeting. Our May meeting was of unusual interest because those who attended the Presbyterial at Seaforth gave their reports which were helpful. Mrs. Monteith, the president, presid- ed at the meeting. Mrs. Horsey and Miss Chestfey gave the devotional readings while Mrs. Monteith and Mrs. G. E. Thomson led in prayer. The study was conducted by all's. W. Alexander and Mrs. .1McMurtrie, The _following business was discussed. It was decided to keep our Egg Sunday on -June Stili this year. We chose Dr. McKellar, our returned missionary from India, for Prayer for this month, It was also decided that we t'ry ho reach half of our o'bjectiye for this year by end of June. BRUCEFIELD. Nurse. Mr. Lance Norris of Toronto spent the week -end with his parents, Rev. \V. A. Bremner will speak on the work of the Bible Society next Sunday y at the morning service. Mrs. Bremner returned from Flint, Saturday night, Mr. and Mrs. Colin \Vest, of St. Thomas, spent the week end at the manse. Mr, Lance :orris, lir. Carman and Miss Anita Haugh, students of Medi- cal College, Toronto, returned house Saturday. Mrs. Nott and daughter visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Richardson's on Sunday, Owing to the Horticultural meeting being held here on Tuesday evenhtg. May 20, the farmers have postponed their meeting until the following week, Tuesday, May 27, at 8 o'clock. This is a joint meeting of boat men and women at the home of Mr. and V Mrs. Hugh McLachlan. A number of farmers have had lightning rods put on their buildings during the last ..co weeks. Miss Grace Addison is home from Godes ick. The Y.P.S. anniversary will be held in the United C-hurch on Sunday, May 29th. Rev. Gordon Butt, of Go- dericit, will preach. On May 26, a suitable play will be put on by the Young People. The Ret.
