Mr. and Mrs. W. Wightman who spent a week at their cottage, return- ed to Detroit on Saturday. Mr. G. Peddie, student at. Knox College, has charge of the services for the Presbyterian congregation for the sur seer. -Mr. L. Hodgins of Toronto spent Thursday at his cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Mustard and Neil Mustard of Toronto spent the week -end at their cottage. Mr. A. C. Ferguson left on Friday for Welland where he has taken a position on a boat. Mrs. Malcolm Toms and Donna TsJms left on Monday to visit the for- mer's sister at Sault Ste. Marie, Mr. and Mrs. A. Sturgeon of Lon- don and Mr, Irwin of St Marys, spent the week end with Mrs. J. Sturgeon. Evangelical services are being held in St. Andrew's United Church every evening except Saturday at 8 o'clock, conducted by Evangelists Whitesides and Leonard. Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Mustard, Jean and Sandy Mustard, who spent the winter visiting at Stuart, Florida, re- turned home on Saturday. Rev. and Mrs, H. Little Clarence Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs, Garnet Taylor had the mis- fortune to slip into a boiler of scald- ing clothes and severely burned Thurs- day, while Mrs Taylor was washing. But at the time of writing we are pleased to report the little fellow is unproved as well and favorably as can be expected. iVe are pleased to report Mrs. Alfie Johnston, although suffering from nerve shock, is slowly improving. Mir. and Mrs. Atkinson King of Wallaceburg and Mrs, Fred •Alslater of Crediton, were visitors over Mo- ther's Day with their mother. Mrs, James Gibson. Mrs. Nicholas Cumming is very poorly at present. Mfrs, W. Potter is having a new sidewalk and lawn added to her pro- perty, which, with the new residence erected last year, is snaking a splen- did improvement. Mr, Chas, Riehl is doing the work. Mr. George Chambers has purch- ased a new sprayer for his large or- chard north of Blyth. Mr. Chamb- ers has also boutrht a twenty-five sec- tion colony of bees for the orchard. Mr. Henry Waytnouth has" com- pleted planting 500 soft maples, which he received from the Forestry Branch, around his dairy farm. • The new brick yard is nearly com- pleted and will be operating shortly. A very pleasing feature of the Mo- ther's Day services was the ,presenta- tion of a beautiful bouquet to Mrs. James Gibson as the oldest mother in the congregation. The presenta- tion was made at the adorning service of Queen street United Church by Luella Taylor and Noreen Morrit, At the evening service the pastor, Rev, E. Anderson, sang a delightfully ren- dered solo and five young members of the church, Gordon Lyons, Ken. Lyons. Edwin Bender, ,Ernie Robin- son and Howard Leslie, also sang a selection which was greatly enjoyed. ' Mrs. Jack Cole has returned from Clinton hospital where she underwent an operation and: is now able to be up. Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Bell visited with friends in Belgrave on Sunday. Mrs. Chas. Rouse has returned af- ter spending last week with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Bowen of Gode- rich. A little black horse has made its appearance on the streets. Bill says it is a race horse. Mr, and Mrs. Robert C, McGowan announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Edna Robertson, to Mr. •George Thomas Charter, of Blyth, son of the late Joseph F. Charter and Mrs. A. Birr, Hanover, the marriage to take place the middle of May. — The regular monthly meeting of the W.M.S. of the Queen Street United Church was held- on Tuesday, May 6th. Mrs. (1Rev) E. L. Anderson presided. Meeting opened by singing hymn 84. The devotional leaflet, "I -Lis Witnesses," was taken by Mrs. E. Cartwright; "Ye shall' he witnesses unto me we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard," Prayer for . China' was offered by Mrs. Slater and Mrs. Wm. Hesk, A piano solo was given by Miss E. Mills. Interesting readings were given by the Heralds, French, Mrs. Maines; Indian, by Mrs. Hoov- er, after which one verse of the 90th hymn was sung, Splendid reports of the Huron Presbyterial held at Sea - forth on April 30th, were given by. the delegates. Mrs Leslie gave the report of the morning session and Mrs. J. W. Mills the afternoon. Mrs. Hes'k gave the report of the Mrission Band work. Maines, Contest Concert.—One of the most successful Scotch and Irish contest concerts held for some time was given in Memorial Hall on Tuesday even- ing, May 9th, under the auspices of the Women's Institute. Rev. George Weir was chairman. Two distinct programs were presented in half hour periods. The Scotch took the lead followed in succession by the Irish, The canny Scot and the witty Irish were much enjoyed and the or- chestra gave excellent music for both sides during the evening. The judges were Rev. and Mrs. Scobie, Belgrave; Rev, and Mrs. Forrester,Londesboro, and Rev. and Mrs. Maines, Walton, and gave their decision in favor of the Irish by one point. Proceeds were $57,55, DUBLIN. There will be a play in Dublin, St. Patrickis Panish Hall, on May 30th, Further information later. Miss Lizaie Ryan and Mrs. John Evans and family spent Sunday with Mrs; ?at Ryan of Hibbert. Fr. Hussey of Kitakoria called on friends in Dublin on Tuesday. Many from Dublin attended the funeral of the late Mrs. 'Atkinson. on Monday. Miss Marie Benninger of Hamilton spent Sunday with her parents. Mrs. Joe Dillon returned home on Sunday from Seaforth hospital after an operation for apendioitis. We are pleased to hear she is doing as well as can be expected. The community was shocked to hear of the death of Mr. William Byrne on Wednesday of this week .in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. Byrne had undergo ne a very serious operation, but had appeared to be re- covering. The ,many friends of Mr. Harry Drake are sorry to learn of his death which occurred in St. Joseph's Hospi- tal, London, ospital,'Lotidon, on Tuesday. HULLETT. Mr. and Mrs. A. We hope soon to hear he is improving. Mrs, P. Manning of the 10th 'con. does not improve in health as well as her many friends would like to see her.
