Mrs, A. J. Hummall of Blooms-

Mrs. Johns of Guelph spent a few
days last week at the home of her
brother, Mr. Norman Cook.
The malty friends of Miss Emmi
Johnston. are sorry to hear she is con-
fined to her' .room with an attack of
bronchitis.
Miss Elva Bouton spent the week
end at her home here.
Mrs. Roland Cudinore has returned
to her home here after spending the
winter with her daughters in Toronto.
Mr. Ed.' Berry of Detroit spent the
week end at the home of his mother,
Mrs. Thomas ,Berry.
The regular monthly meeting of the
W.M.S. of • the United Church was
held on Thursday afternoon last with
quite a number present. The meeting
was opened ;by reading the Easter
lesson; In. unison after .which Mrs.
Sinclair led in prayer. The minutes
of the last meeting were read and the
study leaflets taken by Mrs. j Elder,
Miss A. Moore end Mrs. Ed. Mc-
Queen after which Mrs. Wm. Mc-
Dougall read the devo't'ional leaflet.
Mr. Claude Blowes spent the week
end at his hone in Mitchell.
'Services in Carmel Presbyterian
Church were largely attended on .Sun-
day last When the Rev. Mr, McLlroy
was in charge. A quitstette was given
by Messrs, R. Y. McLaren W. A,
McLaren, Clifford Moir, Jas, A Bell,
Orville Taylor.
After choir practice in Carmel Pres-
byterian Church Thursday evening,
Miss Janet White, who has been
organist for a number of years, was
presented with a cabinet of silver and
an appropriate address. The address
was read by Miss Mabel Workman
end the presentation made by Miss
Alice Walker. Miss White, who is to
be married shortly and who will reside
in Toronto, was taken by surprise,
but expressed her appreciation for
the splendid gift and also her regret
at severing connection with the choir.
Following the presentation a social
hour was spent.
Mrs. as. Bonthron hos returned
home after a very pleasant visit with
her sister at -ltcKee's Rock, Penn.
The many friends of Mrs. Frank
Farquhar are sorry to hear she is not
enjoying the best of health.
Eby-White.—The marriage of Miss
Janet White, only daughter of Mr,
and Mrs. W. J. White of Hensall, to
Mr. James Eby, of Toronto, took
place on Tuesday afternoon at Carmel

Presbyterian hurch manse,Rev.

Dr. McIlroy officiating, Thyoung
couple were unattended. The bride
was dressed in pale pink georgette
and carried a bouquet of carnations
and roses, Mr. and Mrs, Eby, after
a short wedding visit with friends in
Owen Sound and Southampton, will
reside in Toronto.
On Monday afternoon, while play-
ing at school, Nellie 'Fee, y:;ungest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
Fee, while going down the basement
steps, fell striking her head on the ce-
ment. She was taken to her home in
an unconscious condition, her head be-
ing severely cut. Dr. Moir was called
and the young patient is now doing
nicely,
IMr, Wm, L. McLaren and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy McLaren were in Seaforth
on Sunday visiting Mrs. W. Venner,
who is in' the hospital there.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Muir and Mr,
Win. Muir of Goderich were Sunday
visitors in town.
Mr, Errold Drummond is moving
hie butcher business down to the
Jackson store where we believe he in-
tends putting in a restaurant and gro-
cery stock.
Mr, Thos, Simpson of Lucan spent
the week end with friends in town.
Mr. Bert Horton, who has spent
the last two years in the West, has
returned home.
The death occurred in Hensall on
Tuesday afternoon of Mr. John Lep-
er, a well known resident of the place.
Mr. Leper has been in poor health
for over +a year and his death was not
unexpected. He leaves to mourn his
loss his widow, formerly Miss Mary
Carlyle.
Mr. and firs. M. Drysdale and fa-
mily accompanied by Mr. and gas
L. Mickle, motored to Springbank on
Sunday last.
A special meeting of the village
council was held on Saturday night
to receive and consider the auditors'
report, Reeve Higgins and Council-
lors Cameron and 'Petty being present.
Councillors Consitt and Ortwein were
• unable to attend as they were both
suffering from a severe cold. Frank
Gibbs, of Stratford, who trade the
audit, with the exception of a few mi-
nor details, found the books in good
condition. Each set of books audited
showed a substantial surplus for the
year, The report was adopted and
copies ordered printed on motion of
Cameron and Petty. The meeting
then adjourned.
Mr. Wan. Simpson and Mr, and
Mrs. 'Manley 'Jinks of Detroit spent
the week end with relatives here.
Reeve. Higgins has been confined to
his home this last few days suffering
from a severe attack of the flu,
Mr. Gordon M. Reid, secretary of
the Western Ontario Conservative
Association was in town Tuesday.
A meeting of the Executive of the
South Huron Conservative Associa-
tion will be held in the town hall
here on Thursday evening.
Farmers are busy on the land.
Plowing and seeding are in full swing.
Passion Week and Easter services
are being held each evening this week
in the United Church, On Monday
the pastor. Rev, Arthur Sinclair took
for his s'uihject, "The Fatherhood of
God," on Tuesday evening, "The Gol-
den Harvest"; on Wednesday even-
ing the subject will he, "What Ans-
wer Will ' You Give?"; on Thursday
evening, "The Watchers of the Cross'
and on Friday evening, "The Great
Question Answered." A song service
,and special music is being given each
evening; On Sunday morning a com-
munion service will be held and at
both services special Easter music
will be given by the choir.

Sask., on Saturday morning of Gor-
don Holman, son of Mr. Geo, Hol-
man, County Olerk, the meeting of the
Huron County Old Age Pension
Board, which was to have taken
place Monday and Tuesday of this
week, was postponed until the end of
the week. Some thirty new applica-
tions and twenty which were left over
from the last meeting will be consid-
ered by the Board.
The Reeve was served with a notice
from the township council of Hay on
Monday morning that they intended
extending the Black Creek Drain from
the Zurich Road about one mile north
or up through to the farm of E, Wil-
lert, The plans and specifications
being prepared by John Rogers, C.E.
of Mitchell. As the Hensall waters
enter the Black Creek drain at et
about the \nrillert farm, Hensall is
again included in this drainage
scheme. Our assessment is $407.20,
some 930 acres of land being assess-
ed for the drain and the farms of Don-
ald Parke, Robert McLaren, R. Bro-
derick, Thomas Sherritt, Dr. Bell,
Jas, A. Bell, of the lot concession of
Tuckersmith, and Louis Clark, W.
Dining and R. D. Bell of the second
concession are included in the
scheme.

week at the home of his aunt, Mrs.
Thos. 'Pollard.
Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Habkirk, Mrs.
Win. Hunter and Mrs, Leonard Hun-
ter of Clinton visited at the home of
Mr. and Mns, Adam Nicholson on
Sttnday.
Mr. and Mrs, Jos. Riley Jr. spent
Sunday with the letter's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Geo. Cooke of Goderich
Township.
Miss Hattie Armstrong visited at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lind
