Death of Thomas Palmer—'Anoth- er old resident of Henson in the per- son , of Thomas Palmer gassed .aWay at, the home of his daughter, Mrs. A1= bert'. Whitesides of;G derich on' Tues.- 1 after" a short day"';evening, April st, illness from pneumonia. ' Mr, Palmer was born at Ntairn MslGillivray„ town- ship, eighty years ago and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs, T, W. Palm- er. Besides living in McGillivray he resided in London after which he moved to Hensall and rived here till the' death of his wife in 1'922. ' He has' lived with his 'children since. then, He was of a genial disposition and was well liked and respected by all. Hewes a• Conservative in politics and was a prominent member of the Or- ange Order. For this last few months he nide his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Constable and sirs. Whitesides of Goderich, where a couple of weeks ago he was taken down with pneumonia and because of. his age he failed to rally. He is sur- vived by one son and two daughters, T. W. Palmer of Hensall, Mrs. • Al- bert Whitesides of Goderich and Mrs. George Miners .of London. The fun- eral took place from the home of Mr. and 'Mrs. Whitesides, Goderich, on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Clark, pastor of the United Church, having charge, edf. the service at God- erich. The reinains were brought to Hensel] Union cemetery for inter- ment, where the Rev. Arthur Sinclair took charge of the service at the grave. The pallbearers were old friends of the deceased: E. Ronnie, John Zuefle, Thos. Hudson, C. A. Mc- Donnell, Fred Manns, Geo. Brown. Mr. Earl .Palmer of 'Windsor spent a few days last week at leis home. The services in the United Church were largely attended on Sunday last, Rev. Arthur (Sinclair having charge. Li the evening a quartette was given by Mrs. Hess, Mrs. Clark, Mr. Good- win and Mr. Sam Rennie. 'Council Meeting. — The regular monthly meeting of the council was held on Monday evening last, with all the members present and the reeve in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted 'on motion of Petty and Ortwein. A number of communications were read and ordered filed. A delegation was present from the committee which had charge of the chautauqua which was held here recently and a suitable arrangement was trade as to the charge for the hall on motion of Con- sitt and Cameron. Mr, Fred Bon- thron was given permission to dig a drain from his property down Nelson st. to the outlet on South Richmond st. Colin Hudson, assesor, was pres- ent and had his roll. After several adjustments were made the roll was accepted by the council. On account of the Bank of Commerce and several other places of business being closed the business assessment was lower than it was last year and the popu- lation is about 20 hs., s Mr. Hudson also reported that he collected $40 in dog tax; 5 dogs in the village arc not yet paid for, Mr, Hudson was given until May list to see that every dog in the village was licensed and the tax paid. After that date, any dogs run- ning at large without a tag will he destroyed by the constable. Mr. A. W. E. Hemphill was present end made a report as to the taxes collec- ted. ide stated that there were three or four tax amounts to be paid which he hoped he would have by the first of May. He was given until that time to get the remainder collected. A court of revision on the assessment roll will be held in the council cham- ber on Monday evening, Joie 2, at 2.30„A number of accounts were pre- sented and ordered paid on motion of Petty and Ortwein. Reeve Higgins reported that Mr. Frank Gibbs of Srrutford who was making a special audit of the corporation's books for the Council had completed' his work and had sent hint 2 copies of the re - pert. one of which was laid on the table. As the auditors' report was somewhat lengthy and the hour was getting late, the Reeve asked the members of the Council to take the report and examine it and for the C ,uncal to meet again on Saturday evening to consider it, which was agreed to. The Reeve a:so gave a statement to the Council of the Auditor's report re- cently received from the Ontario Hy- dro Commission, as to the standing of our local Hydro plant. After practi- ' rally rebuilding the plant two years ago we again have a surplus of about $5,000 and in 1929 after paying oper- ating expenses, power bills, debent- ures and depreciation on the plant, there was a surplus of 5823 on the. actual cost of power in the hands of the Ontario Commission, which will take charge of the next two months' power bills. The Reeve also stated that on account of making the col- lections for domestic lighting every two months instead of every month, the party using over $2 worth of power would notice quite a reduc- tion in their lighting bill as the plant is again piling up quite a surplus. A rebate will be looked for this year. The Council then adjourned to meet again on Saturday evening to consider the Auditor's report. ;Boss & Brazier, of London, who have secured the contract for paving. the London Road from Kippen to Ex- eter, are here getting their machinery ready for an early start and will com- mence paving as soon as the weather permits, Boss & Brazier had the con- tract last year end all their equipment is right here on the ground. We un- derstand the laying of the cement will start- at Exeter, The Eckuert Swiss Bell Ringers gave an entertainment in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. Owing to the stormy night many did not 'turn out those who did were well repaid es this company put on a splendid entertainment. The play entitled Yonnie Yonson's Yob put on by the Young People of the United Church Sunday School of Centralia on Friday evening last was largely attended and each player took his or her part very creditably. The play was put on in the aid of the United 'Church League here, Implements. .Several lest class ;land rollers,` good (limp ,rake;;, spring tooth cultivator, \'Iassey4T-Iarris with seed grain attach nt'ent—for sale, worth the money.
