al grant; $15 was granted. •
A letter was read from the Sick
Children's hospital, Toronto, thanking
the council for their donation passed
at the January meeting. 'Coanoillor
Ortwein reported on the condition of;
the community shed and recommend-
ed more lights. 'Councillor Cameron
reported on the work of the town hall
coingiittee in fixing•over the public li-
brary and that the work •would be
completed this week. The Reeve re
'ported un his interview with Mr. F.
P. Gibbs of Stratford, chartered ac-,
countant, as to the cost of an audit as
soon as possible. A motion was pass-
ed to rescind the order appointing Jos-
eph Hudson and Rays McArthur. au-
ditors for 19110.', A number of accounts
were presented and ordered paid on
• motidn:of Consitt' and ,Cameron. A
considerable ,discussion took place on
collecting the dog tax of the village
and. it was finally decided that all
owners of dogs trust pay their dog
tax at the time of receiving their tag.
Each tag is numbered anda record
will be kept and all dogs without tags
running at large in the village will be
destroyed by the constable. The town
hall committee were given instruc-
. tions to have the .hallway and council
chamber re -decorated. The Reeve no-
tified the couiecil that he intends to
bring up at the March meeting the
matter of collecting our taxes twice a
year instead of once. He stated that
in paying the whole amount at once
in December ` was quite a hardship
to the ratepayer at the time when
so many things are due and that a
number of ratepayers have expressed
their opinion that they would rather
pay half, of it around the first of July.
The matter will be discussed at the
next meeting. The clerk asked the
council for authority to purchase a set
of Ontario Statutes, The matter was
left over until the next meeting. The
c .uncil then adjourned.
The funeral of the late Mrs. Ad -
ant Reichart took place at her late
home on Thursday afternoon last, in-
terment in the Halsall Union cemet-
ery, with the Rev. Arthur Sinclair of-
ficiating. Amongst those who attend-
ed the funeral from a distance were

this week on business and is also tak-

Mr. and Mrs. James Snaith and chil-
dren of. Dashwood spent the week end
visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
William Consitt.
Mise Mary McKaig of Exeter spent

The Sunday services at the United
Church were greatly enjoyed by the
large congregation:. Rev. A. Sinclair
occttnied the pulpit at both services.
The musical part was given by a mens
choir. .\t the morning service a solo
was given by Mr. T. Sherritt and at
the evening service a solo by Sam
Rennie, a quartette by Messrs. Good-
win, Cantelon, Blowes and Welsh, be-
sides severai other numbers by the
choir, Two weeks from Sunday there
will he a ladies' choir.
Mr. end Mrs. John Passmore were
in Clinten on Friday and :Saturday.
Mies Ethel Robinson of Seaforth
spent the week end at ]ger home here.
The local Hydro z ,umlissian held
their regular monthly meeting on
Tuesday evening when a lot of busi-
ness wan transacted.
The Board of Health held their first
meeting of the year on Saturday even-
ing. Reeve Higgins was appointed
Chairman of the Board and James A.
Patterson appointed secretary. Dr.
Moir was appointed medical health of-
ficer. The hoard intends to have a
medical inspection of all the children
attending school 'about May 1st, also
to make an inspection of the school
premises.
Rev. Mr. Sinclair received news on
Tuesday' of the death of his father.
Mr, and Mrs. Sinclair 'eft on Wednes-
day for Sarnia to attend the funeral,
which will be held on Thursday at his
home.
Wrhile playing hr,k.y at Seaforth
on Monday evening, Lloyd Passmore
was barfly cut by a skate. He was
taken to a h spita] whrrc several
stitches were put in. (.Loyd was
brought to his home here nn Tuesday
afternoon.
The funeral of the late Walter Hab-
kirk took place from his family resid-
ence, Queen st., on Thursday after-
noon last, interment in the Hensel'
union cemetery, Rev. Mr. Mcllroy
having charge of the services, The
late Mr. IJabkirk alas a well known
and highly respected citizen of the
place anri he will be sadly missed by
his relatives and friends.
The euchre and dance put on by
our firemen in the town hall Tuesday
evening was largely attend. From 45
to 50 tables were going up to 11 o'-
clock when an adjournment was made
for lunch, after which dancing was
enjoyed.
The Bell Telephone Co. have a staff
of men here putting up new wires aiid
cables and trimming up some of the
trees.
No, 4 highway will be kept open for
motor traffic for the balance of the
winter. Mr. E, Epps and sons of
Varna have the contract. The firm
have had several breaks- with their
plough and had considerable difficulty
getting through .owing' to the depth
of snow.
The ,home of ittr. and -Mrs, George
Fee was' the scene of a happy gather-
ing on. Feb. 4th, being the 5'Oth anri-
versary of the wedding of. Mr, and
Mrs, Walter Fee. Owing to a recent
bereavement in the family the oc-
casion was celebrated quietly. Quite
a number of friends called during the
afternoon to congratulate the bride
and groom on the happy event, The
home was beautifully decorated and

Young People of Trinity Church
are busy preparing a play to be given
under the auspices of the Junior
Guild about the end of the month.
The concer.t and dance on Friday
evening last week for the benefit of
the library was not as well attended
as should have been. Those taking
part in the program were: piano duet,
Mrs. Paull, Miss Jean Woods; trios,
Miss Gladys Gale• Mrs. Paull, Miss
Jean Woods; quartettes, Mr. Paull,
Mrs. Harold Scotchmer, Mrs. Paull,
Miss Woods; readings, Murray Grain-
ger, Jean Woods, accompanist, Miss
Miss Thelma Ritz; selections by the
orchestra, which also gave music for
the dance.
Many friends of Wallace Johnston
and John Spencer will be sorry to
hear of their serious loss by fire which
occurred recently at Corinne, Sask.,
when their places of business were
destroyed. Both were former well
known residents of Bayfield.

Miss Phamie Little returned home

two months with her sister at St. Ca-
therines.
Mr Herman Saundercock is moving
his household • effects into Mr. Chas,
Watson's house. We welcome this

Mrs Harry Moon is visiting with
her sister, Mrs. Ferguson of Seaforth
this week.
Mr. and Mrs, John Shobbrook re-
turned last week after a pleasant visit
with Seaforth friends.
Mrs. Geo. Moon entertained her
neighbors and friends to a fowl sup-
per last Thursday night. The evening
was very pleasantly spent in progres-
sive euchre and dancing.
