When be first came to the county council the east to the county -for this work was $2,400, now it had risen to $11,000. And last Year the Old ,Age Pension had put an- other ex,penditurc on the county and he :believed the cost to the county would increase as pe .ple lost some of the pride which at the outset kept some from applying for the pension. His eautiun to the council was to place the levy this year high enough to .meet the expenditures. He always believed. in paying, as you go :end in eight years service as reeve in his own %tillage the rate had been reduced from 45 mills to 30 and a deficit of $6,000 had beeri turned ints a surplus of $10,000, 'The county could be fioanced but neo set the Id basis a deferred payments. He was itgainst the putt- ing off of payment of the first $32,000 for the Provincial Highway as three - Utile of a mill would have piaid this at the time. Then the Province de- ducted this frm the gram t the county hightray systeni and this and $20,000 of debentures which were is- sued for the Holmesville bridge and which came due in 1929 with no sink- ing find provided to meet them had pm the county hi had shape in its general account. The comity's pres- ent liability was. $115.000 for Provin- cail ,Highway acceent. $105.000 for eounty roads and $53,000 on current aceeunt. $9i1,000 ef a subsidy was to he expected from the Province on county highway account, which would gill leave a debt on this account of aesso00. This is the stand I have taken. This branch of the magistrate's work- is steadily growing fram year to year and if it continues at the present rate a dom- estic relations court will have to be established to ttake care of this most impoftant branch of the work, Of the 475 cases heard and dis- posed of last year.
