EARLY FAIRS NOT A SUCCESS.
Listowel fall fair was held a month
earlier than usual last year to try to -
avoid the wet weather frequently ex-
perienced in late September. Their
fair had good weather but the experi-

vesting and only a small crowd at-
tended. Also at was found that there
were few fruit and vegetable exhibits,
as things had not reached maturity.
Listowel has changed to a later date
this year. Goderich fair is also being
held later than formerly.

TT takes three to complete a, telephonecall; the

called, If arty one of the three is at fault, the
call fails,
Uncompleted telephone calls are a serious public
problem. We call attention to it because we want
you to have the best possible service at lowest
possible costa
Every day in Ontario and Quebec there are over
one million local telephone calls which are block-
ed -- a waste of two million minutes a day —• a
congestion of traffic — a source of irritation — a
handicap to perfect service,
Some of these uncompleted calls cannot bel help-
ed and some are due to our own errors, which we
are constantly reducing. Many of the failures —
"Line's Busy" — "They don't Answer" — "No
one on the Line now" — "Wrong Number" —
originate g ate with the other two parties to the. call.
We plan now to give publicity to common faults
in telephone usage in the hope that there may
be a mutual effort to maintain high efficiency .of
telephone service, •

section 72 ('1) of the Lignar Control
Act. The evidence of Slatnuel Glazier
showed that he had an agreement with
the Brewi
ng Company for a commis-
sion of 25 cents a case for liquor for
which he secured orders from holders
of permits. Under the agreement he
went into Ashfield and canvassed per-
tnit holders and secured two orders,
which were filled. J. C. Makins, of
Stratford, conducted the prosecution,
and D. P. Munroe, of Guelph, acted
for the defendant company. The argu-
ment for the defence was that the sale
wee made at the 'brewery and they
claimed that no commission was paid
to Glazier for the sale, but that he was
the agent of the purchaser. The Mag-
istrate held, however, that Glazier
was the agent of the vendor and im-
posed the fine set by the statute to
which costs, amounting to Sella, al ere
added.
