TO ENCOURAGE SAFETY
ON THE HIGHWAY
The Highway Safety Committee
have renewed its campaign for the
prevention of accidents. In this paper
the 'Committee publishes an advertise-
ment calculated to renew public in-
terest in this vibal problem.
If is stated by those who have
studied the question, that rotor traf-
fic in Ontario ittcreased between 20
p.c. and 25 p.c, in 1928 over 1927, but.
that the fatat accident natio was low-
er ,than
ow-er„than in 1927. (Highway officials
give •a good deal of credit'for these
figures to the educative efforts of the
the last two years. As the traffic
grows the .Committee find' that they
have to contirute their efforts with re-
newed vigor in order to keep this
natio' at as low afigure as possible,
Alfter careful study members of the
Highway Safety Committee have con-
cluded that the vast majority of ac-
cidents can •be prevented if a few sim-
ple rules of safety are kept constantly
i;n mind.
One''°official of the Highways De-
partment asserted that during certain
periods of this. summer, we may 'ex-
pect cars in use 'en Ontario Highways
to equal one can to every three peo-
ple living in the Province. These
figures, of course, take into account
the increasing number of tourist caSs
using Ontario highways,
