The Stephenson Family Reunion,
-
A very interesting and important
event_took place on Wednesday, Julie
19th when the Stephenson fancily, to.
the number of- 150, gathered' at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Win. 12. Ste-
phenson, of Parr Line. There were
members present from Marlette, Lon-
don. Wingham, Clinton and IHensall;
and a large number from Stanley, th.e
original home of the Stephenson. It
is 20 years since a reunion was held
and quite a number who stet at that
time have since passed over the River.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stevenson -Sr.
carte to Stanley from near_Pont Hope
in the early 40's when this country
was almost an urobrokett Forest, They,
with their Family of 7 son's and 3' dau-
ghters, knew well what the ha'rds'hips
and trials of pioneer life were. Mr.
Stephenson Sr. passed away in 1878.
Nearly all the fa' it
m married and Y y a set-
tled in this vicinity, some later mov-
ing to Michigan and some' to the
West, but a number; still remain in
Stanley and are highly • respected cat-
izens of Which any. country i t

of descendants -in the 5th genet+ation,
but only two of ,the, 2nd generation
remain -Mrs, Ralph Stevenson, aged
90. and Mrs. John Stephenson, aged
87: 'These ladies' are a .connecting link
of the former days and the present.
They are mentally clear 'and like to
talk of the early days. The gather-
ing last Wednesday was successful
in every way. On the arrival of the
-company a very fine dinner was serv-
ed, foltawing which'a good, ,program
of speeches andmusic aeas given.
Then games and contests were held,
then oleo there was the social inter-
course, the getting acquainted which
is perhaps the tn'oist important feature
of such gatherings. Then the day
finished up with another feast, -for
that is what makes the Stephenson
family 'he ip'hy ica1 iforce they are to-
day. After supper the company dis-
persed,
is
persed, feeling that they had spent a
very: pleasant and long-tto-be remem-
bered day.
