The weekly meeting of the Y. P.
S. C. E. of Egmordville United
Church was held on Monday evening
with Gertie Webster in the chair.
The meeting opened with "0 Can-
ada," followed by prayer by Mr.
McDonald, The Scripture lesson was
read by E. Nott, and "0 God our
Help in Ages !Past," was then sung.,
A very interesting topic, "Citizen-
ship," was ably taken by Mr. J.
Love, after which there was .a short
discussion on the topic, A . reading
was given by 'Vera •Hudson which
was enjoyed by all. After a few min-
utes of intermission, plans were made
for 'a skating party Tuesday night
and the meeting was . closed 'by the
Mizp'a'h benediction.

Miss Olive Johnson left Thursday
for her home at Varna after visiting
with her uncle, Mr. Robert Elgie, of
North Bay.

Miss Dorothy Kerslake returned on

beth Smith, having sufficiently recov-
ered from her recent serious illness to
return home.'
On Tuesday Mr. John McPherson
suffered a slight stroke blit is now
improving. Mrs. McPherson has
been in a very lo'wcondition for two
weeks and shaves no improvement, we
are sorry to state.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed.• Hocking and
Billy, Mr. W. E. Hocking 'of Russel -
dale, and Mr. Wm. Adair, lltonkton,
were here this week awing to the ser-
ious illness of both Mr. and Mrs. Jno.
McPherson.
'Donald Dale, who has had an ope-
ration in the hospital here is progres-
sing favorably.
Mr. Jake Sproat is• here from Tinta-
gami, New Ontario.
Mr.' J. M. McMillan, Victoria street,
who has been seriously ill with pleur-
isy, is improving.
Mrs. Alex. MdLennan has been
confined to -the house for a few weeks
but her many friends are glad to
known she is improving,

;On Thursday evenng, Jan. 17th,
Mrs. Andrew Young passed away af-
ter a long illness, She was acorn
nearly eighty years ago, a daughter"
of the fate Alexander and Mrs..Wil-
son of Seaforth. She spent all her
life here, and was married to the late
Andrew Young overfifty years ago.

ing on Monday evening. The finery

'Mr. George R. Holland, Jr., under-
went a serious operation in St. Jos-
eph's hospital, London, on Monday.
At last reports he was doing as well
as could be expected.
The recent rains have left the roads
open for cars again.
Mr. Vincent_ McGrath of Windsor
and Edward McGrath of St. Clements
attended the funeral of their mother,
Mrs. Peter McGrath, which took
place last week.
The Literary Society will hold their
regular meeting on Friday evening.
A good programme will be put on as
usual, followed by a dance.

The annual meeting of.Burns Unit-
ed Church was held. on Wednesday
evening of Last week with .a fair at-
tendance of adults, young people and
children. 'Mr. 'Simon .McVittie was
chairman with ''Mr, Edward Reid as
secretary. After the business part of
the meeting the seals and books which
were 'won by .Sunday School pupils
were distributed, and afterwards cof-
fee and lunch was provided and
served by She Ladies' Aid. It was de-
cided at the meeting to accept Rev.
Mr. Abery's resignation. Rev. Mr.
Abery has been our pastor for a good
many years and we hope that we may
get another pastor who we will like
as well as we have liked Mr. Abery.
Mr. and 'Mrs. rBert_'Allen entertain-
ed friends on Thursday evening.
Miss Marjorie Bickell spent the
week -end with her 'friends, Mr. and
Mrs. George Watt.

held at the Collegiate at the Christ-

Mr. John A. Fraser, who was the
father o'f Mrs. John. L. Bell of the .3rd
concession, died recently at Shake-
speare, where he had been living for
the past four years. lir. Fraser was
93' years of age and was in good
health until three months ago. Be-
sides his family, he is survived by
four brothers, 15r. re, B. Fraser, of
Stratford; James Fraser, Gunton.

Fraser of New Hamburg. The fol-
lowing obituary refers to Mr. Fraser:
"There died at his home in Shakes-
peare'an Saturday; January 5, on, „f
North Easthope's oldest pioneers in
the person of John Fraser. He was
born in Glenquaich, Scotland, in 1836,
and carie with his parents to Cana-
da at the age of'ftve years, settling on
the farm where his son Peter now re-
sides on lot 19, concession 5, North
'Easthopc, At that time North East -
hope was a primeval' forest and only
with hard labor and much patience
was the home hewn out of the heavily
timbered acres.. All through his life
one of the favorite occupations was
the hewing down and clearing of
those sturdy maples and beeches. Mr
Fraser served for more than a quar-
ter of a century on the township coun-
cil and was also a member of the
Perth Cotill ty Council for several
years. He was also a director of tate
South Easthope e Fire insurance
and of the Tavistock Agricultur-
al Society, In 1463 he was tnart'red to
Miss Jessie McTavish who predeceas-
ed hint by five years. Mr. and lir.,
Fraser lived to celebrate their fiftieth
and sixtieth anniversaries surrounded
by their fancily of four sons and chi e;
daughters, namely: John A. F,ase-, 1
M.P., Inc Carihnn, R.C, of Qua•nal,
B.C.: Alex. of Basswood, Man.. Peter.
