Mr, Duncan Laidlaw, Mr. Thomas
Bernick and Miss Clara McGowan at-
tended the meeting of Presbytery in
God'6rich on Tuesday. Miss McGow-
an, representing the Young People's
Society, gave an address in which she
outlined the work of that organization
in the County and asked for the kind-
ly consideration of the Society by the
Presbytery. Very favorable comment
was expressed regarding Miss Me-
Gowan's address. No outstanding
business was done at this tweeting,
though the Maintenance and Exten-
sion Fund was given considerable
discussion.

Mrs, (Rev.) George Weir gave ad-
dresses at Zion and Elimville churches
on Sunday in the interest of the W.
M. S, Rev. Mr. White, pastor, was in

gations were present at both churches,
Mrs. Stanley Johnston, who under-
went an operation for goitre in the
Toronto General hospital on Monday,
is making a favorable recovery.

- nesday evening, Nov. 28. when Teddy,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Donald ltnlayson, Toronto, and Les-'
lie McElroy, son of Mr, and Mrs. W.
'H. McElroy, Blyth, were united in

nand Mr. Ernest Brown played the

-unattended, was given in marriage by
'her brother, Mr. Cecil Finlayson, and
looked lovely ill a powder -blue geor-
' gette frock over satin, with matching
hat, and carried a sheaf of Butterfly
roses. She also wore the groom's gift,
4 platinum bracelet watch. Immed-
iately following the ceremony, the
bride and groom left on a motor trip.
Their many friends here extend best
wishes to them, They are living in
Detroit, Forest Lodge at John R.
Street. Mr, and airs. McElroy are
not expected here till the end of the

the Young People's Society was held
in Queen Street United Church. on
Monday evening. The attendance was
:good. Mrs, Weir opened the meeting
- with prayer and Gladys Fawcett, in
the chair. read the Scriptural passage.
The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and adopted. An address
on "Traffic Laws,' was given by Or-
ville McGowan. This drew attention
to the relation of the laws and God.
Miss Dorothy Bryant very aptly
pointed out the effects of the use of

Dennis made a business trip to To-
ronto last week.
Tames Martin. -There died on the
tat of December, Mir. James Martin,
in his 77th year, having suffered two
strokes within a week, although he
had been of a robust constitution all
his life, Mrs. Martin died.five months
ago. He is survived by one grand-
daughter, Mss Mary Ellen Dempsey;
three brothers, Barney, of Ellice
Township; John and Patrick, and one
sister, Jane, all of Stratford. The fun-
eral took place on Monday to St. Col-
umban church, where Requiem High
Mass was celebrated by the pastor,
Rev. Fr. Dan'tzer, with Rev. Fr.:White
of Windsor, in the sanctuary, and
from thence to St. Colnmban cemet-
ery, where all that was mortal was

A very pidas'ant social gathering of
the congregation of the United Church
Brucetfield, was held -oh Wednesday
evening last. The object of the meet-
ing.

vices the sum of over $900 was receiv-
ed from the congregationand their
friends, this sum being applied to wipe
out the balance still standing against
tile- shed. This leaves the congrega-
tion in the happy position of having
now no debt whatever on their splen-
did -church property.
The ladies of the congregation_ ser-
ved a sumptuous supper to almost 300
.members and adherents of the church,
after which a good programme was
given, consisting of read-utgs, music
and speeches. The match was applied
to the "note" by Mr. James Gemmell,
who was a member of the sited build-
ing committee, while the tray was
held by Mr. Thomas Chapman, treas-
urer of the committee. The meeting
was closed with the singing of Praise
God from Whom all Blessings Flow"
and all went home feeling that a pleas-
ant evening had been spent.

in Stratford on Tuesday last.
Miss Kathleen Falconer spent the
week end with her ,grandmother; Mrs,
Stanbury in Cliuton.
Mr. George Layton is attending the
U:F.O. convention in Toronto this
week.

sage last week from Spokane, Wash.,
that her cousin, Dr. 5. J. Walker, had
suddenly passed away. Dr. Walker
was very well known here, being rais-
ed in the village until manhood. Dir:
Walker leaves to mourn his loss a
wife, five children and an aged mother.
Much sympathy is extended to the
