WINTER FAIR.
Q'trurd has been received that the
"500 Boys' Trip to the Royal 1Vinter
Fair which was inaugurated by the
Ontario Government last year is to be
repeated this year. Ten boys will be
selected •from each county through
the medium of a special drive Stock
and Seed Products judging •contpeti-
1100, This will be held in' Clinton on
Friday, October 26th, comnlencio,g at
01.(10 a,nt. Previous winners of this
trip are not eligible but all other
young men, farmers' sons or residing
on 'farms in Huron County and who
are between the ages of sixteen and
twenty -,three (Oct, 1st) should awake
a point to attend this competition
and win a trip to the Royal Winter
Fair. The judging competition and
consequently the selection of the ten
winners mill be in the hands of the
local Representative of the Ontario
Department of Agriculture.

The fourth annual convention of
the Huron County Educational Assoc-
iation of Trustees and Ratepayers will
will be held in the auditorium of
Clinton Collegiate Institute on Satur-
day, October 20th,Features of . the

discussions on 'Grants to Public
Schools," "Agriculture in Secondary

The Fourth Annual Convention of
the Y,P.IS, .of (Huron. Presbytery met
in Grand (Bend on Friday, Se'p'tember
28th, With a registration of 125. The
morning devotional exercises were
conducted by Rev. A. 'Sinclair, of
Mensal!, after which reports of the
various contnvittees mere given.
'Rev, W D. McDonald opened the
afternoon session. 'This .was followed
by parallel discussion in the following
groups: Ohrietian Fellowship, led (by
iRev, Moorhouse, 'Exeter; Missions,
by (Rev, J. Walker, Dungannon; 'Citi-
zenship,'by {Rev. Max Parr, Goderich;
Lit. and Ree„ by Rev, 'Robert 'Cum-
mings, Benmliller.
Mr, M. M. Mandi.go of Stratforcr
gave a practical talk on "Overcoming
!Handicaps" and 'Mr, W. G. 'Medd :of
Exeter presented a brief report of

•'NARROW ESCAPE.
'Early last Friday morning, shortly
after midnight, Mr. and Mrs, William
'Charters, and Messrs, Charles Mason
and Robert Charters had a narrow
escape when their sedan 'left the ap-
proach at the bridge over the Nith
River, west of New Hamburg, and
breaking through the .guard posts and
cables, plunged into eight feet of

the surface of the water. None of
the occupants were injured in the fall
and quick work on the part of the
two young men prevented, fatalities
from 'drowning, Mr. William Char-
ters, whose leg was ,broken last spring
and consequently has not been able to
get around as usual all summer, was
able to get out and climis. to the top

all speak highly of the kindness of
New Hamburg people, who put them
to bed in warm blankets.
The next morning, when -the car
was pulled tip to the road by a gang
of men, it was found to be in fair
condition, and is now running as.
usual again.
The accident, which was caused by
another car attempting to pass on the
narrow bridge, occurred while the
'party were returning from a trip to

DIED IN DETROIT'..
After an illness of some time, Mr.
\Villiant M, Robb passed away in De-
troit- Friday, Oet, '5th, Mr Robb was
brought up in Harpurhey and was in
business in Seaforth for 'a number of
years before going to Detroit, He
was a brother of Miss Jane Robb and
Mr. James Robb, of town, who spent
several weeks with him the latter part
of August, The late Mr, Robb was
horn in Stranrear,,Wightonshire, Scot-
land, but the family came to Canada
while he was a baby, and settled is
lIarpurhey. It is over 20 years since
`.ir, and Mrs. Robb and '.family went
to Detroit.
Tie is survived by one sister and
two brothers of a Stolidly of Sine: Mr
John Robb, Detroit; Mr. James Rabb
and Miss Robb, of .Seaforth, Besides
his widow, Formerly Miss pliver, of
e leaves one daughter, Mrs,

home. The funeral took pi :ce from
the home of his daughter o Monday.
Interment was made in De't out,
Mr. Rdbb was a, man of thought-
ful ',and considerate dispositi n and all
his old friends here deeply egret his
death and extend sincere sy •pathy to
the bereaved, Mr. Robb had suffered
with heart trouble at times curing the
past several years,
IN TRAIN WRECK,
Miss Ruby Sharpe, of 'Vermilion,
Mts., who spent several weeks visit-
ing her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs,
Thomas Sharpe, was a pasaenger on
the International Limited when it was
struck by a passing freight train near
Hamilton last week, when Rev, Dr,
McGregor, of London, was • seriously
injured aid Mrs. iIVVard, of Wian'ipeg
fatally injured. The window. behind
Miss Sharpe was smashed to pieces,
and although broken' glass showered
over her, she was uninjured,. She was
on her way to Kin'gs'ton 1 to enter
business college.

Ont., were married on Saturday at
the Church of the Holy Rbeary, St,
Clair Avenue, Toronto; Reis. Father
D. Forested, officiating. The bride,
who was given in marriage by her fa-
ther, wore a gown of white Ihridal sa-
tin, made with tight bodice, long
sleeves, and full skirt with points of
lace at either side. Her •veihof hand-
made Brussels lace was'loanecl to her
by Baroness Korss of Oshawa,'and it
was arranged in a coronet of pearls,
with orange blossoms at each side.
She carried a shower of Ophelia roses
anti lily of the valley. Miss Evelyn
Lee was her sister's bridesmaid,
wearing a gown of pale` green lace,
with green velvet 'hat and she
carried an
old 'fashioned bouquet
The two small pages were Mas-
ter Joseph Korss and Master Fred-
die Korss of O 'hawa, . wearing white
satin suits. Mr. Arlthur Kelly was
best man, and the ushers were Dr.
Louis •Prendergast, cousin o'f the
the groom, Dr. James Blatchford, Mr.
Thomas Day and Mr, 'Lawlor Lee,
brother of the bride, Mrs. James Ma-
llon played the wedding music, and
Mrs. Joseph Mangin sang, The wed-
ding breakfast was at the hone of
the bride's parents on Lyndhurst

one of those proposing toasts. Miss
Margaret Hyndman proposed the
toast to the law school sorority to
which the bride also belongs, and
this was answered by Miss Ruby Wa-

BOWLERS.
The third event of the Irish Trebles
bowling tournament was completed
last Saturday when the rink consist-
ing of Dr, R. R. Ross, M. McKellar
and J. M. McMillan, skip, was return -
cd winners. They eliminated G.
Charters, W J Duncan and Dr. Mac-
kay, skip, in the semi=finals and then
defeated M, McPhee, Robert Boyd
and G. D. Haight skip, in the finals.

ver trays and Mr, Haigh's the wine.
