Sweitzer and little daughter Lois visited over the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Higgins and family, and Mr Henryand Mr.a 1 s, Alex.. children of Cass City, Mich„ are spending a few days this week visit- ing with friends in town. Miss Alice Higgins is visiting in Detroit this week. Mr, andlfrs, R. Eaerett, of Wood- stock, visited with Mn Alex, Murdoch on Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy and dough. ter June, of Winnipeg, are visiting for a few weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. C. Petty. They motored from Win- nipeg, Mr, and Mrs D. McKaig of Lon- don, visited in town for a few days recently; Miss Irene Hoggarth is visiting this week in Toronto, Misses Elva Shaddock, Grace Stone and time Scruton have enjoyed a week's vacation at Port Stanley. The many friends of Mrs. Thos. Welsh will be sorry to learn that she is not well again ,and a trained nurse is in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. T. Hedden and dau- ghter Olive and Mr. and Mrs, Milton Bissett, of Brantford, visited over the week -end with Mr, and Mrs. A. An- derson and Mrs. G. Hedden and family, Mrs, Thos. Sutherland attended the 'banquet in London on Friday last in connection with the first receiving of mail for London by airplane. The Postmaster -General was the principal speaker and a number of other promi- nent men addressed the meeting which was largely attended. Mr. A.. 1Valiace, manager of the International Harvesting Machine Co, and airs. Wallace, were pleasant visitors with Mr. A. Murdoch on Wednesday last. Mr, and Mrs. MoKaig, Mrs. Thos. Peart and Mrs. Frank Peart visited a day in Clinton recently. Mr. Dart, of Haliburton, visited his brother Leonard over the week -end Mr. Lorne. Stott and daughter Mar- ion, who have been visiting for a few weeks in town, have returned to To- ronto. In an old fyle of the Exeter Times of 50 years ago there is an interesting account of a foot race between Wil- liam Balkwill, of Exeter, and Alex. Murdoch, of Hensel!. The race was run 50 years ago last Saturday, and was for 100 yards, and a purse of $25.00. Mr. Balkwill won the race. We don't know for sure by how much, but we 'believe that Balkwill won by about 95 yards. Mr. Fred Bowen visited in Blyth on Sunday. Miss Gladys Luker is enjoying a week's holidays, visiting in Stratford. Mr. and Mrs. Roy White and Mrs. William White Sr. of London, visited over the week -end with friends in town. A lawn social was given to the Mission Band and Primary Class of Carmel Presbyterian Church at the hone of Miss Rena Hudson an Thursday afternoon last. The after- noon was spent in games and con- tests. The winners in Mission Band work during the past year were Miss Minnie Sangster, Miss Mabel Work- man orkman and Eldred Smith, after which lunch was served. The work of gravelling the London ",Road has been stopped for a couple of weeks, but the plant will be in oper- as. again at the end of that time as there is still quite a bit of work to do on the roads. The grain harvest is about complet- ed in this district and threshing is the order of the day and an immense amount of grain is being marketed. 'here daily by truck. Pope is visiting for a few days with her sister in Dashwood. Mrs, Gordon Knapp, of Toronto, :visited for a few days with friends in town. Mrs,Corsicelebrated tt her89th birthdy on Saturday last, and a num- ber of her friendscalled on her, wish- ing many happy returns of the day. Mrs. Consitt is one of the oldest resi- dents in Hensel, and is enjoying fair- ly good health. The two daughters of, Mr. Richard Robbins of Tuckersmith, had their tonsils removed at Mrs. Patterson's hospital. on Thursday last, Mr. Chas, Chapman, of Palmerston visited over the week -end with friends in town, Mrs. Peter Fisher and daughter Miss Eleanor, are visiting with Mt, and Mrs. Moffatt,, a,t Brucefield. Mrs, W. O. Sirs. A L. Case is in a London hos- pital where she is taking treatments. Mrs. Dougall and babe have return- ed home after visiting for a few days with relatives at Edy's Mills. The annual flower show of the hor- ticultural Society was held in the town hall on Tuesday.
