R mball and little daugh- tt ter, who have been visiting for four c weeks here, have returned to their a home in Chicago, t: The regular monthly meeting of the a ,coenoil was held on Tuesday evening o with all members present, except L. ,.Councillor 'Cameron. The minutes of i last meeting were read on motion of t Petty and Priest. Fire Chief Moore t and Earl Drummond were present and asked the .council to consider the in - Stalling of a better fire alarm system as the old one is out of date and not a much use. Councillors Petty and Sangster of the fire and light commit- / tee, with Fire Chief Moore, were ap- t pointed a committee to look into the matter and to se what other towns have and to get prices on electric { gong. Appetition signed by residents i of South Richmod street west, asking r for another light an their street was t presented to the council. The reeve explained the situation, that this was one of the longest blocks in town and 1 poorly lighted, and asked the council fo' grant- the petition, which was done ai on motion f Petty and Sangster. The rearnie ale asked that another light be pd on the London road in fron tof the Deters prperty as this was another dark spot. Also that a light be placed on the north side of Man street in front of John Zuefle's. The request was granted. Petty -'Priest -That a line be run from Simmons corner to the park • ,grounds so that if park is needed at night, it can be lighted. This can be done at a very small expense as their is a quantity of second hand posts and %tire from the hydro system here. This motion passed and the Iine will be run down immediately. The reeve stated that he had received word from the charged this year. A reduction of $3 a hip, is granted on power used, and a rebate of $2.50 is to be returned to the council on last year's street light- ing. The other rates are to be the same as at present. The reeve, how- ever, assured the council that the plant that is being remodelled will take care • of a great deal more ibusiness with sa- tisfactory results. He was looking for a substantial reduction next year, but in the meantime the whole village will benefit by the rebate on the street . lighting and the local_ commission by the $3 reduction in power. T hereeve also asked that a motion be passed instructing the clerk to write to McEnwaii Bros, at Goderich request- ing them to take immediate steps to clean up the old salt web property, as this was a dangerous fire menace to the village. It was moved by Petty and Priest that this be done and im mediate steps be taken to have this eye sore cleaned up, A spark from a railway engine in a dry time would set this mass on fire and with a strong wind would endanger the whole village with fire. SPARKS' CLOWNS IN NEW LAUGH STUNTS Forty Fun -makers Coming to Gode- rich, Friday, August 17. Many are of the opinion that the circus clown's mission 1s only to amuse the youngsters. As far as the clown and his work is concerned age doesn't count at all among the people he must amuse, and it matters not to him whether they are on the "blues" or seated in the reserved section. No one -gets too too old to escape his -wiles, and he will break through the gravity of a judge. It is human to laugh and it is the clown's business to tickle the funny bone of old and young alike- and he does it. The "walk -around" of the clowns with Sparks Circus never fails to cause hilarity --mirth so infectious that it spreads from one end of .the Master Rowland Luff and sister, of big tent to the other and breaks down Hamilton, are spending their vacation the dignity even of those who believe with (heir tutcic and aunt, Mr. and that such pranks are for the delight of Mrs" H.
