Early Tuesday morning fire des-
troyed the building belonging to the

fire was noticed by Mr:, D. Foss; who
quickly gave the alarm and the fire
T department was on the scene in a few
minutes, but the building being an
old frame one. was soon destroyed.
Mr. Parlmer immediately got a gang
of men to work to build another build-
ing over the ice, which was not hurt a
grelat deal, The cause of the fire is a
mystery.
Mr. L. Heffernan, who has been en-
' ' .ga'ged for quite a number of years
with Geiger & Son, severed his con-
nection with that firm on Monday and
is now engaged on the Provincial
highway.
Mr, and Mrs. Graham and Miss Ada
Graham of Lansing, Mich., visitedov-

Mr, Rotbert Crawford of the Hydro
statff spent the week end with his
brother in Hanover.
The haying is about done in this vi-
cinity and the farmers are busy cut-
ting wheat and barley which is a
splendid crop.
Baseball Notes.—On Wednesday eve
ening the Supertest baseball team of
London played the local team on the
Hensall diamond, Hensall winning.
On Friday evening the Hensall team
went to London for a return match
and again won -by a score of 6-2. Af-
ter the game Friday evening both
teams were guests at Loew's theatre.
Mr. and Mrs, Fred Bowen, who
have resided for some time in part of
the home of Mrs. D, MaoLean, have
given up residence there and have
moved their furniture in the rooms
at the back of the barber shoe.. Mrs.
Bowen and babe will visit with rela-
tives in Blyth and Goderich for a
month until a suitable house can be
obtained.
Mr. Harry Levis of the Hydro staff
spent Sunday with friends at Exeter.

Death of Mrs. R. B. McLean.—Af-
ter an illness extending over two
years, a highly esteemed resident pass-
ed. away on Saturday morning in the
person of Mrs, R B. McLean at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. John
Henderson, Mrs, MoLean had never
known a day's indisposition in her
life until her last illness. Her,maiden
name was Matron Kerr, being a
dau-
ghter of the late William and Mrs.
Kerr, and was born in Hay township,
She was 75 years and 4 months of age.
About 22 years ago she was united in
marriage to Mr. McLean and they
lived in Tuckersmith for many years,
Twenty years ago they moved to
Stanley Township, where Mr. McLean
died four years ago, She leaves to
r-sourn five children: William J. Mc-
Lean and Mrs, James Fowler of Hail-
evbury; Mrs. E. Sproat, of Tttcker-
•anith; and Mrs. J. Henderson, of
Stanley. She was a lifelong member
of St. And'rew's Church, Kippen, and
always took an active part in the
work of the Ladies' .Aid and W.M.S.
The funeral was hold on Monday from
the home of Mr. and Ivrea Henderson
to 'Baird's. cemetery, Rev. 12. R. Con-
ner officiating. The .pallbearers were

Lloyd Cooper Drowned. -'Our vil-
lage people were shocked to hear the
sad news that Master Lloyd Wilkin-
son Cooper," youngest son of Mr.
Robert Cooper, was drowned on Sun-
day afternoon abut five o'clock while
bathing at Grand Bend. Our •sincer-
est sympathy goes out to Mr. Cooper
and family in their sad bereavement,
Lloyd was with his brother Jack and
Master Alex• McMurtrie in water
not over their depth when he was'
noticed to be in trouble and disap-
peared. Witnesses state that the body
dict not come to the surface until
searchers succeededin locating it
about fifteen minutes later. Dr. N. F.
Schram and Dr. W. L Denney, of
London, and a Detroit physician,
who were there, were called and work-
ed on the body for some time, but
without success, Lloyd, whose moth-
er passed away nearly five years ago,
was aged 12 years, 4 months and 17
days, and would have been in the se-
nior fourth class next term at S.S. No.
2, Tnokersmith, being a pupil of Miss

Tuesday at St. Andrew's United
'Church, Kippen, Rev. R. R. Conner
conducting the service, which was
largely attended. The pallbearers

mere, Interment took place in Hen -
.still Union eemetery. Among those
from a distance who attended the fu-
neral were Miss Cooper, of Peterboro,.
an aunt; Arnold and Florence Ceyell,

very ill for some time is at present
progressing very favorably and the
many friends wish her a speedy . re-
covery.
A number of neighbors gathered at
Mr, and Mrs. William Delta's new
home on Thursday, July 19th, and
surprised Mrs. Deitz with a linen and
kitchen shower, A nicely worded ad-
dress was read by Mrs. R. J. Weight,
after which a dainty lunch was served
by the neighbors .and a very enjoy-
able evening spent. Mrs. Deitz thank-
ed her friends very much for their
kindness and invited them to spend
another evening after they gotset-
tled. It was through the efforts of
Mrs. Mustard and Mrs. Workman the
shower was prepared.
