Doubts of Antlquity Settled.
Many scholarhad doubted wheth-
er the ancient Canaanite city was
really situated at Beitin, and it was
believed to be hnpracticable to dig
there because of the Arab village,
which seemed to cover the site, As
the solution of this' problem was a
matter of great interest and import-
ance to students of the Bible, the
American School decided to attack
the site this Fall, with the co-opera-
tion of the well-known English bar-
rister, Harold Wiener. The manila,
were unexpectedly successful The
first soundings proved beyond cavil
that the site had been occupied since
about 2000 B.C., that is, from the
Patriarchal period down into inodern
times. e
The depth of debris on the site, re-
presenting a -whole series of super-
imposed layers of human occupation,
seems to average about thirty feet,
divided between the Canaanite, Israel-
ite, Graeco-Roman (late Jewish),
Byzantine (Christian) and Arabic
periods. The ancient pity wall, dtte-
frcim the Canaanite and Israelite
periods, was also found.
At Megiddo, the recent excavations
are among the most elaborate ever

Antiquities for the Palestine"Govern-

Megiddo was founded at least five
thousand years ago, and over forty
million cubic feet of debris have ac-
cumulated on its site during the long
period of its occupation, clown to

BABY'S OWN TABLETS
The Dr. Williams' Mediciiie Co. bas
received the following letter from
Mrs. Griffith, of 21 Meichison Ave.,
East Hamilton, Ont., concerning her
experience with Baby's Own Tablets:
Dear Sirs, -I wish to thank you for
the handy little booklet you sent me
on the Care of Children. My baby
boy was six weeks old when I :first
used Baby's Grin Tablets, being 'new
to Canada, but since the first proof
of their many uses in bringing up a
family, I have never been without
them, for they are worth their weight
in gold. There is no trouble in get
ting the little ones to take them and
they often prevent an illness if taken
in time. My first baby is now, at the
age of four and a half years, a pic-
ture of health, and my nine -months -
old baby is also well and happy. They
are both a real good sample of what
Baby's Own Tablets can do, for I have
never yet needed a doctor for either
of them."
The booklet to which Mrs. Griffith
refers is entitled "Care of the Baby,"
and treats with what a mother ought
to know for baby's sake. A copy of
the booklet will be sent free to any-
one requesting same from- The Dr.

American Women Gives
Church 32 -Carat Diamond
York, Eingland.-A 32 -carat diamond,
the gift of an American woman, now
studs a golden chalice of York Min-
ster, the cathedral which has cele-
brated the thirteen hundredth anni-

The donor is Mrs. Lily Forepaugh,
of Brewster, N.Y., a former Yorkshire
woman, Mrs.•Forepa,ugh visited Eng-
land last summer and made arrange-
ments for the presentation of the
jewel.
Canon C. C. Bell showed Mrs. Eore-
paugh the various ornaments of the
Minster, especially the chalices, but
Mrs. Forepaugh was -unable to find
any which seemed suitable to en-
shrine the diamond. She then ar-
ranged to have a, chalice and paten
made at her own expense, the chalice
to contain the diamond. Mrs. Fore -
weigh said the jewel had formed part
o fa brooch which had been given to
her as a wedding present by her hus-
band.
