As there had been nothing in the

it 'was a bit puzzling. But on Mon-

he said .that it wasn't really an

as it was already the law of the
land, men wore -being called out un-

not be made until February the 100,

would already be in uniform. Mr.

that he was counting on getting the

who had made the legislation pos-

Bill, described Sir llilfrid Laurier
as the "friend of the masses" ami
declared that he, (Mr. McMillan)
stood "shoulder to shoulder" with
him. --Afterwards he said he would -
n't pledge himself to any party or
to any man, onlp to the electors of
South Huron." But still later when
asked if he would -support the Mil-

emphatically that he lvouicl, support

but he wouldn't claim either Mew-

aoaldin't very well "read out of the.

he declared that he "couldn't under-
stand them."
Senator Bennett, formerly member
for East S.imcoe, followed. Mr. Mc-
Millan. He expressed surprise at
the way Mr. McMillan lied spoken of
the Liberal Members of the Union
Government, "Cannot he give these
hien credit for loyalty enough to en-
able them to lay aside their party
prejudices for the sake of their coon-
try ? Cannot the men of both par-

"that the boys at the front ever
stop to ask, each other what their
polities are ? No, they. are all Clan- •

- Speaking of Sir Wilfrid Laurier's
attitude toward recruiting Senator

been appealed to In February last

"could not give an affirmative an-

Bennett, "for that's the last they

- Answering' 11r, Mc illan's elahn
that the Women of five provinces had
