the late Mrs'. Benjamin Moulton.

Miss Kathleen East, who has been
spending the past couple of mon£hs
with her sister, Mrs. Gordon Cun-

Mr. and Mrs. Will Hamblyn are
both ill, it is feared, with typhoid
fever and are under, the care of
trained nurses. It is •supposed
that they, contracted the disease
while visiting in Bowmanville.
Rev. J. A. Robinson is in Ottawa
this week attending, the sessions of
' Sunday School Commission. He
will preaen in London on Sunday,
in Christ' church in the i morning
and in the Church of the Redeemer
in the evening.

Mr, Ernest Livermore, son of Mr.
James Livermore, one of the "sol-
diers of the soil" returns Saturday
after spending about six months on
the farm of Mr. John Knox of
near Harlock, Ernest enjoyed the
work of the farm and pleased his
employer so weil that be has been
asked to return next . season. He
resumes his work at the C, I, on
.Monday.
Mx, T. E. East has been in town
this week and is packing and ship-
ping his household effects' to Os -
haws where lie has ,ted a good
position for some months and,
where he intends locating, The
fancily leave for their new home on
Friday. The removal of Mr, and
-efts. East' from Clinton is consid-
ered to be a distinct loss to the
town and is regretted by n large
circle.
Mr. and Mrs, Isaac Barr, who re-
cently disposed of their Roane on
Victoria street to Mr. G. 11, Day-
id, have removed this week to Lon-
don where they intend making their

The warm weather is greatly ap-
preciated for the ripening of fruit
and vegetables, especially the toma-
toes, but farmers are wishing for
rain for pastures, ploughing, etc.
The corn binder is again humming,

ed a new one recently.

The Sunday -school having met in
the morning before church service
for a couple o6 months during the
summer, have decided to hold their
service in the afternoon again, after
October lst. It is hoped the in-
creased attendance will continue
throughout the winter at both ser-
vices.
Mrs. Nelson Ball of Clinton, with
her little daughter, visited Mrs. T.
Walter, Huron. Road, one day this
week.

We regret to report the passing of ,
Mr. Geo'. Alair of the , third conces-
sion of Stanley, which sad event oc-
curred at his home on Tuesday morn-
ing
orning after a severe attaek of pneu-
monia.
We were very much shocked on
hearing of the death of the. eldest
son of Mr. W. R. Stnfilie la Sea -
forth, who died in far off France
after having been gassed. Mr, Smil-
lie was born on the London Road
not far from Kippen and was always
counted as one of our boys. Sym-
pathy is extended to the family in
thein sorrow.
On Tuesday evening the W. M. So-
ciety held their annual thank -offer-
ing meeting in St. Andrew's church.
It was addressed by. Miss McLaren
of St._ Marys, at one time sttperin-
tendent of the Birtle Indian school.
She has had a wide experience and
knows how to tell of the work she
has been engaged in. The meeting
was of a most interesting character
and was well attended,

and War Contingent
Association
The annual meeting of 'the Huron
County Red Cross- and War Contin-
gent 'Association was held at Clin-
ton Labor Day, Sept. 3rd,. The
county has five shipping centres and
each centre being( well represented.
;The report showed en increase in
goods shipped each month, malting a
total of 88,124 articles shipped dur-
ing .the year, 19,064 width were
socks.. The officers elected were

Goderich's tax rate has been fixed
this year at thirty-seven nndlls,
West Huron Teachers' Convention

Mr. Fred I3aggitt of Morris met
with as accident last week Which will
lay him up for some little time. He
was driving along the eighth conces-
sion to his home when ho met an
auto and his ' horse taking fright,
ran and upset the buggy throwing
Mr. Haggitt out, breaking Ills leg
and otherwise shaking him up.
W. R. Robertson, a higlily respect-
ed citizen of Goderich, died at his
home in that town on Sunday last
at the age of eighty -Vine plats. The
late Mr. Bobertsan came to Goderich
in 1870 and had been a resident ever
singe. He is survived by four sons:
John, Dean of Victoria College, and
Robert, barrister, both of Toronto,
Williams kl., editor of The Goderich
Signal and A. M., a member of the
Goderich Collegiate staff, and two
daughters, Miss Mary of tbe Windsor
Collegiate staff arid Miss Margaret at
home, Mrs. Robertson, who was
formerly Miss Danny Smith, died
some years. ago.
Miss Margaret Cowax of Soafarth
has gone to Toronto to taite a posi-
tion in the office of the Household
Science Dept., in couiseetion with the
University of Toronto,
Mrs. Urquhart of C'oltengwood has
been engaged as science master by
the Goderich Collegiate institute.
Mrs, Urquhart is the widow of the
late ,Rev. I). 't'rquhart. of Colleen'
wood, formerly of Minion, and prior
to her mnrriagc taught on the Col-
