Mrs. Susan Crawford of Londesboro
has been in town visiting her
daughter, Mrs. J. E. Johnston,
during the past week.
Mrs. Wm. Lucas of Markdale has
been visiting' her daughters, Mrs.
J. E. Hovey and Mrs. (Ravi.) J.
A. Robinson of town.
Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Robb returned on
Thursday from a somewhat extend-
ed visit with relatives in Toronto,
Pickering and Mariposa,
Mrs. Wm. Glen has returned from a
very pleasant trip to the west.
Miss Bessie remained, having ac-
cepted a position in Edanonton..
(Mr. Dodds Holloway has returned to
the Soo to resume his position
with the Royal Bank, -there after
spending his vacation at his home
in town.
Mrs, J. H. Pingel of Port Whitby,
formerly of Clinton, who has for
some time been quite ill, is now
improving, a fact which her many
friends here will be pleased to
know, -
Mrs. T. A. Greig and Miss Hattie
and Misses Walker, Mary and Jean
McMStrchie and Miss' Stothers, re-
turned last week from Beamsville,
where the young ladies were as-
sisting in fruit picking during the
vacation period.
Mr, and Mrs, Win, Taylor of Chica-
go arrived in Clinton on Friday
evening last and have been calling
on old friends here, They. have
also been visiting in Stratford and
London. It is _.bout twenty years
since Mr. Taylor left Clinton and
he has done, exceedingly well in the
"Windy City." But he never for-
gets his old friends here and would
gladly have made a longer visit iu
the old /home town,

O'Neil left Monday afternoon for
Ontario, California, where they in-
tend spending the wintet, Miss
Cooper will take a position
on the Public school teach-
ing staff of Ontario for the
year, Mrs, Cooper has a daughter
residing in Ontario. Miss Cooper
has taught in California ,before and
still holds a certificate for that
state. The ladies are looking for-
ward to a pleasant winter under
Sunny Sotithern skies and their
friends wish thorn a pleasant jour-
ney,
Mr. and Mrs. H. 0, Eastman have
shipped their -liouseliofd effects to
Toronto and yesterday bade good-
bye to Clinton themselves, Mr.
Eastman, who has been in charge of
the Baptist Held, here and at, Auburn
for the past year and 'a half, has
decided to go into the perntmtent
ntintstery and enters Mcb1astet: Un-
iversity for a theological course to
flt himself therefor, During tite
residence of Mr. and Mrs, Eastman
in town they ,Have won the regard
not only of the people of the Bap-
tist congregation but all with
whom they have come in contact,

Mrs. Nesbitt has been very ill but
is recovering,
Mr. William Chapman died at • the
home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Sin-
clair, on Mondays and was buried at
Baird's cemetery on Wednesday, Mr.
Chapman was one of the oldest resi-
dents of Tuckersmith, where he lived
for many years and was much re-
spected.
Mr, and Mrs. Staubles visited in
our village last week,
itirs. Lawson of Delhi was the
guest of Mrs. T. Simpson for a few
days last week,
Miss Martha McDonald has return-
ed home from Markham.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rattenbury and
Miss Eleanor motored up from Ham-
ilton last week and spent the week
with Mr. Rattenbury's parents, They

home.
Dr. Gianeleld moved out on Tues-
day and Dr. Rogers took possession
of his old hence.
Miss Mayne Swan has returned
home from London where she took
in the Pair and visited relatives.
Word was received here on Friday
that CIarence Kaiser was seriously
ill' in an hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
Mr. Kaiser started at onto but did
not reach there in time to see his
son alive as Clarence died on Satur-
day. The remains reached here on
Tuesday and the funeral took place
from the Presbyterian church to
Baird's cemetery on Wednesday 02
last week. The sad event cast a
gloom over the whole village as
Clarence was one of our boys and a
great favorite, The parents and
brothers have the sincere sympathy
of all. The floral offerings wore
many and beautiful.
Rev. H. Woods announced on Sab-
bath that he was about to sever his
connection with this congregation,
Tee leaves for Petrolea about the
14th 'of October. The people here
are all sorest to lose Mr. Woods as
be is an excellent preacher and a
fine man and his mace will be hard
to fill. Mr. Woods is retiring from
the ministry', having boueht a farm
at Petrotea, All wish him the hest
of success in his now undertaking,

Dennis Mitchell and Keeler are on

We regret to report that Mr, John
Workman of the London Road is
quite seriously ill and the doctor is
in attendance.
Mrs, Alex, McKenzie spent the
weekend with friends in Wingham,
Dr. •Strang, superintendent o1 mis-
sions in Nie west, spoke in the in-
tereste of his work in St, Andrew's
church on Sunday morning last.. Dr.
Strang is a Huron county boy, Us -
borne being his birthplace. He is
most energetic in his duties in that
most promising field.

other friends, left for her home in
New Westminster, B.C. She will re-
main a week at London en route.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Alton of Ashfield

of Winless were visitors with Mr,
and Mrs, W. H. Johnston for some
days last week.
NIrs. Aitken o1 Courtright is a
visitor with her son, Dr, Aitken,
and family at the manse.
Mrs, Jas. McClytnont left on Wed-
nesday of this week for a month's
visit with friends 111 Tilbury, .De-
troit and Windsor.
A number of the friends of Rev,
and Mrs, Barnbyt of Lucan motored
over and spent Thursday with them,
it being the twenty-fifth anniversary
of their marriage. We join en ex-
tending to this worthy couple our
sincere congratulations,

Mr. D. 13, Calbick of Winona visit-
ed at Mrs, R. Acheson's over Sun-

church. He is another of the Holtn-
esville boys who bare made their
mark in the outside world worthy of
imitation. Mr, Calbick is a fruit
grower and reports peaches and
grapes a fairly good crop but fate.
