The way the time of Parliament is frit - tared away, by the lengthy discussion of the most trifling ' matters Is noth- lag short of disgusting to the aver- age citizen. tizen• 4 A great deal of absolute rot is }being talked just now by the ol - po ftlat press about the new 1rat- rhise Bill, Much is made of the disfranchise - Mont of German and Austrian -born citizens but anyone of even average intelligence can readily see the jus - 'We of this. This is a war -tine election, the only issue being the conduct of the war, A compulsory military act is to be enforced from the exercises of which all enemy -born citizens axe to be exempted. Wherein then, 11es the injustice of decreeing that such cit- izens shall not at 1 ratoasaY In the 'formation of the government which 'shall enforce this act , 2 What jus- tice would there be in allowing men who know they are quite safe from the necessity of any participation in the war going to the polis and help; !Mg to decide what other men, who know they do conte under the tax; Incises -ax - Incises of the act, shall do ? We aJtnot see why Liberals oppose the bill so ntuclf unless they believe that the eak kneed policy of the party generally has •won the confidence of 'enemies of the Empire, and they are willing to see the party returned to power at any price. Then the granting of the franchise to a -certain number of Canadian women is another cause of much nonsensical talk. "Why should all women but those immediately con- 'nected with soldiers overseas be 'disfranchised ?" frantically cry these righteous defenders of stern jus- tice, As a matter of fact no women at all are being dis franchised, for the simple reason that as .yet women in Canada have not the right to vote in Federal el - odious. It is a disputed question whether the right to vote in Provin- -tial elections carries with it the right to vote in Dominion elections. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who is consider - led a lawyer of some ability, thinks not, and had not this bill been in- troduced the probability is that women would not have voted at all in the coming election. ;,..-Anyway, no matter which, way the matter went, to allow women to vote in the provinces where they have the franchise would be to give them an advantage over the women of other. provinces where they do not enjoy, the franchise. In Ontario and -the Western provinces women have been granted the right to vote, in the lower provinces they have not that privilege, Under the liow eT Dation bill woman aro planed on an ecgu#illty in .all the provtnees.t As a matter oil fact the .great ni jority of women believe they ought to have the right to vote, in all el- eotions, on an equality with roan, ,not as a "Reward of Merit"butt as right f their a i t o col aitiz n'ri e .si and as h p anon it is darning to them, But they're not asking for it •just now 00 bothering; about it at all and in the meantime the majority of women, provided t, ti L • re are uo • blinded pUl t I tde 3b} patty prejudice or tampered with by ward politicians, are quite willing to allow the next -of -Join of the soldier boys the first taste of their new dig- nity, Su1DXnerh llll i)iv.lne servile° will, be helot in St, a- Peter's ?Email .en Ssurdayl (vecing Next at coven 'o'clock, the 1i0u0t- bent will be glad to welcome any to these services, i3rihs Marriages IIOUTLIBY-000IS.-1n Clinton, 04 Sept. 18th, by the Rev. Equipment MORE and more the Ford car is looked upon by progressive farmers as neces- sary farm equipment, the same as the p ow, the hay -rake, the drill, the mower, the harrow and other labor and time -saving machinery. A farmer with a Ford car can dispense with one or two of his horses and make the trips to town, railway station, creamery, or to the neigh- bours in one-third the time. In fact there is no farm machine made that will save the busy farmer and his busy wife so much valuable time as a Ford. And it's so easy to take care of -far easier than a horse. No bed to make, or hay and oats to get, no harnessing and unharnessing, and no stables to clean, The Ford practically takes care of itself. Ask any farmer who owns a Ford if he would ever again try to get along without it. His answer will hasten your decision'. to own one.
