finest battalions in the fifth division.
`There is no doubt that, if we still

Lieut. Unsworth Jones returned
from England on Friday last. Tie

oovery of Mrs. Small, daughter of
the late James; Smith of Clinton.
Another electric storm passed over
Goderich on Monday evening, but no
harm was done.,
Hiss Iluldah Whitley left on Mon-
day for New York, after spending
lier holidays most pleasantly with
her relatives in Goderich and ' Clin-
ton,
We are sorry .to learn. of 'the • ser-
ous illness' of hit George Graham,;
East St., and trust that he will
soon 'recover from it.
We learn 'that' the butchers intend
taking oft their long expense, that of
keeping up vehicles and horses. The
custaiiiers will then have to call for
their purchases.
Mrs. (Dr.) Freeman and 'children,
who have been spending. their holi-
days with friends in Brantford, are
expected home this weelr.
Mr, Thos. Gundry, our popular
auctioneer, has purchased the pretty
residence on Elgin Ave,, cor. Stanley
.St.,- from Mr. George Porter and has
removed to it,
Mrs. Green of Detroit, daughter of
Mrs. Bedford and sister of the pro-
tprietor of the Hotel Bedford, is one
of the guests,
Mi. Charles Reid, ex -mayor, has
the contract of repairing the high
front of the brick building on the
east 'side of the square .used as an
office by the firm of Proudfoot, Kil-
loran & Cooke.

While assisting in the harvest field
Miss May Skinner of Usborne Town-
ship met with a serious accident,
.She was driving a field rake when a
piece of tin caught in the wheel and
frightened the horse causing it ,to run
-away. Miss Skinner was pulled from
her seat and dragged a considerable
•distance over the field, Her left
.arin was broken and one car almost
torn from ,her head. Although still
under the doctor's care, Miss Skinner
is making satisfactory progress,

Dear Sir, -11v, John Rainsford (pre-

village of Bayfield will persist in not
doing their duty,,'

hayfield benefits a great deal from
the visitors 'ivllo come here every
summer, but it is many 31110(0 since
Mr, Ransford's manly form has dis-
ported itself on the Bayfield beach.
I differ with John Ransford in the
statement that it is not, infrequent
that drowning accidents weer, many
of which could be prevented by driv-
ing In a few iron stakes, etc, There,
has not been 0 drowning accident on
the bent for eighteen years and I
cannot remember during my residence
of twenty-four years ]fere a drowning
accident on .the south beach, which
is notably perfectly safe as a bath-
ing place for children.
Trusting that the council of Bay-
field - having had their attention
drawn to this matter by the worthy
John Ransford will supplement this
idea with others more beneficial to
the residents and visitors, S am,

Mr. George and Miss Jessie Men-
zies of Cranbrook and their cousins,
Misses Ella and Mamie Hansuld of
Ethel, motored over to Mr. Peter
Cole's on Sunday for a short visit.
Dr. Ed. McGavin of Windsor re-
vowed old acquaintances on the hay-
field Line last week. Dr, McGavin
was a few years ago a teacher in S.
S. No. 10• His many friends were
pleased to see. him on the line once
again.
Mr, and Mrs. Archibald Agnew and
Master Eldred motored over from
Detroit last week and are guests at
the hone of the lady's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. H. Weston, 6th. Conon-
ion.

Wise delivered to Harry Smith of
Hay P.O. two choice two-year-old
heifers. Mr, Wise finds a ready sale
