former's sister, Mrs. Forbes of

Mr. and Miss McKenzie of Lucknow
returned home on 1Vlonday after
spending some days with the Miss-
es MacLennan.
Miss Carrie Akam returned to Tor-
onto on Monday after speeding a
fortnight's vacation with her moth-
er in Clinton.
Mr, and Mrs. James Finch spent the
week -end as guests at the home of
the lady's sister, Mrs. Robt, Rog-
erson, Hullett.
Miss Libbie Gibbings of Toronto is
spending a fortnight's vacation at
the parental home, that of Mr.
and Mrs. John Gibbings.
Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Rutledge, Miss
Jessie Ford and Mrs. Dickson came
down from Goderich on Sunday to
attend the funeral of the late Dr.
Bean,
Miss M, Burrows of Sheppardton
spent the week -end as the guest
of her sister, Mrs. H. Pennabaker,
and on Monday left on an extend-
ed trip o the west.

ing a couple of weeks with his
family, who have been visiting at
Mrs. Atkins' parental home, thiat
of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cook.
Miss Sybil Courtiee leaves next. week
for Toronto and later for Van-
couver, B.C., where she will meet
a party of friends who sail from
there for the mission fields of Jap-
an.

Master Morgan French has returned
to the home of his grandmother af-
ter undergoing an operation at the
Alexandria hospital, Goderich, and
it is hoped he will soon be quite
recovered,
Mr. A. Hewitt, bookkeeper at the
Doherty Pianos, Ltd., leaves short-
ly for England to fetch his wife
and family, who have •been spending
several months past with Mrs.

Sergt: Major Grant, formerly bass -
master of the 161st battalion, now
of the headquarters' staff, London,
was in town last week looking for
recruits for the staff band.

sons of Peterboro returned to their
home on Tuesday after visiting for
a few weeks with Mrs. Adai►'s sis-
ter, Mrs. Edward Rodaway,

having come up to be present at
the funeral of her sister, the late
Mrs. Herbert Clavier of Mullett

Mrs. Susan Crawford of Hullett was
the guest over the week -end of her
daughterMrs. J. E. Johnston.
Miss Edith Johnston, who had been
spending a couple of weeks with
her grandmother in Hullett, re-
turned Home with her on Saturday.

on the Huron Road this week and

Miss Ethel, who had been • visiting

Mr. 0, D. Bouck -returned on Satur-
day from Drawbridge, where for the
fourth summer he has acted as
'"principal of a summer Model school,

is usually a large one, but the
change of air and scene is so com-
plete that Mr. 13ouck thoroughly
enjoys himself and comes back leaf-
ing fine and et for •the`- autumn

Miss Ellen Momrtcastle, who a couple
of weeks ago had the misfortune to
fall and sustain more or less ser-
ious injury, is now improving and
is able to wally up town again.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Wo Watts and lit-
tle Isabelle Lawson, Mr. and Mrs.
Cottle and Alex• Eagleson motored
to Goderich on Sunday and spent
a very enjoyable day at the lake.
Mr. and Mrs, R. Rowland left Mon-
. day for a trip to 'Toronto, Buffalo,
Hamilton, and St. Catharines.
They may also take a trip down
the St. Lawrence before returning.

several weeks ago that Corp., or as
he is now, Sergt. Norman Levy, son
of Mr. and Mrs. James Leavy of town,
had won the D.O.M. for gallantry on
the field, but it was not known just
for what act of bravery. the coveted
honour had been bestowed. The fol-
lowing official announcement explains

Master Gordon Ball was successful
in passing his examination for en-
trance to the Collegiate. Owing to
