Rev. Donald McLeod arrived on Tues-
day and has joined Iris wife,; who has
been visiting her parents, Mr, . and
Mrs, Ralph Tiplady. They intend
also visiting Mr. MoLeod's people
at Ripley before returning to their
home in Montreal.
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Marsh and Mas-
ter Norman and Mrs. Phillips, who
had been spending a fortnight as
the guests of Mrs. Marsh's parents,
Mr. and Mrs, George Davis, re,
turned to Detroit on Friday. Miss
Mae Davis returned with them and
is spending a couple of weeks in
the City, of Straits,
Mr. and Mrs, W. 'P. O'Neil. returned
on 'Thursday evening from a six-
weeks' trip through the western
provinces. They visited their
daughter, Mrs., (Dr,) Ross, at Swift
Current, Sask., then went au to
Calgary, Banff and other points,
Mr. O'Neil reports the crops not
looking extra well, especially in
Saskatcfiewan and ,Alberta, owing
to the late and dry season, The
farmers, however, are characteris-
tically optimistic. At almost ev-
ery point they met old friends
from Ontario, all of whom welcom-
ed them with true western bospit-

The following complimentary and
appreciative communication has been
received bp Mrs. Reynolds, Goderisn's
blind, but indomitable knitter, from
the bead office of the Canadian Red
Cross Society, Toronto
Dear Madam, — Information has
reached this office of the fact that
you have, since the commencement of
the war, knitted 450 pairs of socks,
which have been a contribution from
yourself to your country through the
medium of the Canadian Red Cross
Society. At a meeting of the execu-
tive committee held on Tuesday,- I
was requested to express to you the
high appreciation of , the Canadian
Red dross Society for the wonderful
work you have done in aid of the sick
and wounded, and to state tbat a
copy of this letter will be recorded
upon the minutes of the society's
meeting. Faitbfully, yours,—Noel

mittee.
From February 1, 1015, to August
1, 1017, Mrs. Reynolds has knitted
five hundred and twenty pairs of"
socks, all .01 which have been knitted
for the soldiers. She knits regularly
every week four pairs of soots, a
wonderful showing for a• blind woman
in her 82nd year,

has been engaged to take charge of
the organ in Knox church during the
absence of Mr. Sunbury on active
service. He commences Oris new dut-
ies at the first of September.
