MR. THOS. SHEPPARD
Per the past twenty-six years he
.has been a resident of Clinton,
Or. Sheppard is the sole surviving
taember of a family of twelve, six
brothers and six sisters. Capt Wm.
Sheppard, who died' at Portage 1a
` Frairie in December • haat, being the
,younger of the six brothers, who in
their youth were. remarkable for
their physical strength and, vigor.
Mr. Sheppard, though well up to
;four score and ten, still enjoys a
goodly' measure of health, and is able•
to walk up, town almost every) fine
day.
Adin D. Wiltse is another citizen
who is well past the. four score
shark, being but five days younger
than Mr, Sheppard. He will com-
plete his eighty-sixth year on Sun-
day next. •
Mr. Wiltse is also Canadian born,
.iieilag• a native of Leeds County. lie
came to Huron forty-seven years
ago, so is not so much of a. pioneer
. '.as' some of the others in . this list.
''4He settled on the London Road,
'Tuckersmith, on the farm which he
still owns but which is now' occupied
liy his grandson, Mr. Milton Wiltse.
Mr. Wiltse has been a resident of
Clinton since the autumn of 1911.
'While •a resident of " Leeds Mr.
:wiltse served in the capacity of
magistrate but since coming up here
he has lived quietly, taking no spec-
ial interest iu public affairs, In
February, of 1£116 Mrs. Wiltse passed
on, leaving him alone, but for his
family, two sons and two daughters,
one of wboin, Mrs. Rennie, resides
with him.
Mr. Levi Wiltse o•f Tuckersmith and
hlr, Harrison Wiltse of town are his
:sons and there is an older daughter,
Mrs. Wiltse of Seaforth.
Mr. Wiltse is hale\ and hearty end
takes a good deal of pleasure out of
a bit of, chat with old, friends whom
ho meets day by day when he comes
down town for his daily' constitu-
tional. Ile has been a lifelong Meth-
odist and in politics is a Liberal.
WilIlam Wepnouth, one of Hullett's•
llighlyt esteemed pioneers, celebrates
today his eighty-second birthday,
Mr. Weymouth was born in Eng -
hand but came to Canada in 1851.
He was 'a sturdy' lad when lie start-
ed life here and be never shirked held
work, of which there was a plenty in
-the 'old township in the. Ns and GOs.
IlIr. Weymouth did a man's share and
by sheer pluck and hard work made
for himself a hone and nor over fifty
years he has resided on his farm on
the 8tli coucessfon. A. year ago last
ht1C. THOS, FEAI'1
Later he secured the farm on the
Gravel Road, whore lie still resides
with his son.
Until within the last pear or so
Mr.Fear made periodical visits to
Clinton where he invariably met 'old
friends With' whom he always de-
lighted to converse. ]3ut.though the
weight of years is telling heavily
upon him he still enjoys .fairly good
health.
To these \sturdy.pioneers this coun-
try owes a debt which can never be
repaid except in the coin of the wor-
thy lives of its citizens.
