No definite word has been received in town,but it Is expected that by this time they have massed the channel, LOST VALUABLE HORSE. _ Mr. J. J. McCaughey's standard' bred trotting horse, Red Franklin, died yesterday. Mr.. McCaughey had driven out to the country on Tues- day and says the animal never went better. On reaching home that alter - noon he didn't seem, to be quite well and a veterinary was called in, but the horse died yesterday morning. On Saturday last the executive of the Huron County branch of the Dominion Alliance • met in Clinton, members being present `from Goder- ich, Wingham, Hensall, Seaforth and Exeter. Rev. Ben Spence of Toronto was present and gave an address, urging a closer affiliation between the county and provincial branch. He also suggested that petitions be sent in. from the various municipal, lodge andet urclorganizations asking forr Dominion prohibition. Rev. J. K. Xsiiight of Hensen, local president, presided.. The appointment of Rev. E. Ca Powell as field secretary and of Mr. W. T. Pellow and special of- ficer was confirmed. The present method- of financing the work will be continued. WILLIS CHURCH. Willis celebrated the fifty-eighth anniversary of the organization of the congregation on Sunday lust,, Rev. D. 0. MacGregor, pastor of St. Andrew's Presbyterian church, London, was the preacher of the day and delivered two very impressive and instructive sermons, Mr, Mac- Gregor is a vigorous preacher,' one who does not preach smooth things, but presents to his hearers the duty of the hour in no uncertain way, and 'his discourses were listened , to withwithpleasure and profit. 'rhe choir rendered specially.pxcpar- ed music at each service. Miss Mc- Iver sang as a solo, "I Will ,Siang of -Thy Great Mercies," at the morn- ing service' and in the evening Mrs, Chown sang, , 0 Rest in the Lord," while the full choir rendered an an- them at each service, • On Monday evening the ladies of the church served a supper in the lecture room which was followed by a program in the auditorium. Supper was served from half past five and though a very large crowd gathered to break bread with the members of Willis at their birthiay feast, there was an abundance of good, things and .everybody had Plenty.. A glance over the well -laden tables would give no hint of any scarcity. The supper was all that could be desired and to finish up what Was loft a ten cent tea was served .on Tuesday evening: At eight o'clock the Rev,. 'J. E. Hogg, the newly -inducted pastor of the congregation, took the chair and a pleasing progtam was carried out. Rorke :and brother of Mr. Gordon Harwood of town, was one of the young Canadians who fel in the fierce fighting which has boon go- ing on during the past few weeks, ' Pte. Harwood went from British Columbia, where his family reside. YOUNG MAN CALLDD, Robert McCool, son of Mx, and Mrs. J. H. 5100001 of Youngstown, Alberta, formerly of Clinton, died. suddenly at Calgary. General hospital. on May, list, The young man, whoHoiinesviie' been in poor health for years - and }'ms- twenty-five years of age, had at the time of his death was in the hospital preparing for an operation when he took a convulsion froni which he never rallied.
