by Mrs, Elisha Bali 04 town from
Seegt. IS. G. Robinson, formerly of

March 13th, 1017.
"Soewhere in Prance,
"Dear Mrs, Ball :aft tuns with
considerable surprise and pleasure
that I •received your letter and pare
'col, the, latter y e s, t c r d a y,
in excellent condition, part of the
Contents of which I have enjoyed to
trey heart's content today, I cap as -
fain you and your colleagues of the
Y,L,P,A. that such kindness and
thoughtfulness, coining as it ;were
from .comparative strangers and a-
llovo all from the old home town, is
y'ery encouraging to us over here
and it atso puts pew life into a fel-
low to know that ho is not forgot-
ten entirely, I would be glad if you
.would express my hearty thani7s, to,
the Auxiliary for their, kindness., .r
Must also say that everything was
well chosen far its usefulness. Your
cotter was the most interesting one
I have received from Canada since f
left con nru as it did
SO newsIIImuch
taig of the Clinton boys. , I was
o .Pleasantly surprised to know that
wo had reached the grand total of
1e5,; which I think is spI'endid for a
small town like that, and I think
the number is the hall Mark of the
town's- patriotism. I was grieved to,
hear that W, Walker haddgone under.
I recollect him quite well. It would
be a hard blow to his parents. But
I. suppose it is what we over here
Cali 'the luck of the game'. Some
game, believe me 1 Your brief an -
count of the bazaar was also . very
interesting as it gave me an insight
Ante how this 'Great War Cknne'- is
being played at hone. I was glad
to know it was •a success; In fact I
have reason to be glad, one is at the
end of a hard day a. mouthful of cake
and a cup, or -rather a tin, • of hot
cocoa and a real live candle to' read
by. I certainly think; we're winning,
I know most of the oil -leers mention-
ed by you, of: the 181st, - but have
not bad the pleasure of meeting any
of the boys. In fact I have not met
any of the bops of the old_ 33rd since
I left England. T wrote Andy Steep
ot Stapleton arid J. Taylor of Clin-
ton but got no respouse . and have
had no news sof ahem since. That
was while they were in England, 1
believe they aro also 'somewhere in
France' now. In reply to your query
' o I hail
from Stapleton cet
r aiu-
I
_„r.- do and although I, with the rest'
of the bops, want to see 'Victor'
written in big red letters, first, I
can assure you I shall be +iokled to
death when I feel my heels rattle the
' stones outside Clinton station again.
I shall make no kick about it being
too soon. I was in England when
the 33rd arrived one Sunday morn
ing and saw Major Rance and Capt.
Dowding. The last S heard ot them
was that the Major had returned to
Canada and Capt. Dowding was sick
and in a bad way. Well I must
thank you and your society again for
the time and trouble you have taben
for our benefit here.
Tours sincerely,
F. G. Robinson,
Promoted full sergeant

Making maple Syrup is all the go
among the farmers•, The prospects are
that the season will he short and pos-
sibly the run may be some what scanty,
but on account of the large number of
trees tapped the amount of syrup will
likely be large. Many have bought
evaporators and have tapped from 300
to 500 trees, James Mustard tapped the
latter number. His evaporator has a
capacity of -20 to 25 gallons a day, The
prices range around $1.50 agallon '
The sad news came an Sunday that
another of our boys, Willie McKay,
had made the supreme .sacrifice in de-
fence ot our fair hand. He was a son of
Mr. Eric McKay bf Tuckorsmith. The
listf
of fallen iferos who formerly lived
iu this vicinity, now includes Bruce.
Logan,William Hocking, Fred d Skel-
•ton, eorge
Mulholland, and Willie.
•McKay. Fred Weir lived nearerBruce-
fieid, Lien t, William McQueen, who
was wounded and is now house, lived
near Brncefield also.
A number from here attended the
funeral of the late Wilbert Sutton,
who died of inflammatory rheumatism.
He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Sutton of Seaforth, who form-
erly lived in this vicinity.
Mfrs. William Prison has come borne
from spending the:winter with friends
in Peterboro, All are pleased to see
her home once more,
A very sad death took place on Fri-
day week, in Hensel!, when Mrs. John
Pepper, nee Miss Flora Taylor, died of
pneumonia, leaving five young chil-
dren, the yonnaestbeing less than two
months old. The funeral on Monday
fr'o'm her father's homewas largely at-
tended.Much sympathy is felt for the
bereaved relatives.

and everything is getting into ,full

Blyth on. Dominion Dap. As eve have

the genial warden of Huron County
and, chairman of the committee, is
