HULLETT
On Monday, November 12, the
Fireside farm forum met at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver
Anderson with 12 adults present.
The subject for discussion was
"Organized Action by farmers -
The job to be done." The feder-
ation of Agriculture is the
strongest farm organization_ in
this community. It has been ben-
eficial in helping farmers secure
higher prices for land used by
hydro and in assisting groups to
start organizations. It has been
a strong supporter of 4-11 clubs,
junior farmers and junior insti-
tutes. At present it is interested
in fighting the inequality of
farm taxation for educational
purposes. At present there are
no available funds for beef or-
ganizations although there has
been talk of taking 10e a head to
build up a fund, At present the
producers have the privilege of
selling' their cattle directly to
the packing plants, on the open
market, at community sales, or
privately to other farmers. They
do not want compulsory rail
grading. The wheat marketing
board has stabilized prices and
as a result of their efforts prices
or Ontario wheat have been
higher. The bean marketing c
card has been well -organized.
t has set a floor price, stabilized
rices throughout the year andl
ound markets for their produce,
he hog marketing hoard has
sept prices more even during
be year. Some farmers complain
bout the variety of prices re- e
eived by fanners on the same
ay. This is due to the method i
f auction selling, when supply
nd demand help to set the price
or the day; but generally speak-
ig, the present method has in -
teased the income of hog rais-
rs. If producers et skin milk,
heese, cream and shippers of +:
uid milk and processors do not
Ianra suitable plan the govt.
ill lower the controls, The dairy
len ehject to the quota system
s it forces them to buy extra
ws during the winter when the
PI
may be unusually high,
The Federation of Agriculture
a fine organization but too
any farmers are indifferent and
reless about giving it their
pport,
