HOLD ANNUAL MEETING New benefits for members of Huron Co-operative Medical Ser- vices were well received at the medical co-op's annual meeting held in Clinton on Wednesday. October 17. They voted in favour of the directors arranging for surgical contracts to include doc- tors' services while members and their dependents are in hospital. Members in session at the meeting in the town hall were welcomed by Morgan Agnew, reeve of Clinton. Special pro- gram feature was a color film outlining the technique of mouth- to-mouth method of resuscitation. The film explained that it is not e new method but is described in the Bible in the second Rook of Kings. Guc8,t speaker at the meeting, Edward Schofield, provincial sec- retary, Co-operative 'Medical Ser- vices Federation of Ontario, out- lined the reason for ee-op medic. al services deleting Irl-IIospit.al Nursing Care from benefits cov- ered by their contracts. This service has been dupli,'ating ser- vieee already covered by the On. Carie Hospital Insurance plan. 3I1 Schofield explained that "Over i7,90tl bag beery paid 011t by Huron Co-op Medical Se_rvieos daring the past year for special ditty )ursing care in hospitals. Such payments were unneces- sery as all nursing care that n patient may require from a. medical standpmut is yours by le el, r, you are ilreatly paying for It in your present 01ISC en' relines. This also includes ,.y ireesierl nursing needs." Members also approved pay- ment of claims on the basis of the new 1962 Schedule of Fees of the Ontario Medical Associa- tion. Payment according to this revised schedule represents a very definite additional contract benefit for all members and their dependents. Also approved was the right of the eo-op to recover damages from a third person should the co-op make payment to member having the right to recover dam- ages from such third person. The policy was also set for the Co-op to urge all members to, take "total service" coverage rather than partial medical coverage. Under the new plan, protection will he offered to members as a "package deal" covering medical expenses with guaranteed ben- efits of up to $5,000 in any one year (with only $100 deductible) Plus complete coverage under a surgical benefits plan and 100 per cent payment for In -Hospital Medical care (limit of 60 visits per year) all at a cost of $30.20 per year for a single person and $00.40 per year on a family basis. Highlight of the president's re- port, given by M. Fordyce Clark, r.r, 5 Goderich, was the payment in 1961 of 1,106 members' claims totalling 954,235, an increase of :8,14,615 over the previous year: Roy Strong, Gerrie; Gordon Kirkland (vice president), r.r. 3 Lucknow; Bort Irwin, 1-.r, 2 Sea - forth; and Bertrain Klopp, of Zurich, were re-elected to the board for a further three-year terns.
